We decoded the complete chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) sequence of the Wakame (), an important economic macroalga of the family Alariaceae, by using next-generation sequencing technology. The genome consists of 130 336 bp containing a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) of 4790 bp, which was separated by a large single-copy region and a small single-copy region of 77 821 and 42 934 bp, respectively. The genic regions account for 77.

The common Chinese cuttlefish (Sepiella japonica) has been considered one of the most economically important marine Cephalopod species in East Asia and seed breeding technology has been established for massive aquaculture and stock enhancement. In the present study, we used Illumina HiSeq2000 to sequence, assemble and annotate the transcriptome of the ovary tissues of S. japonica for the first time.

Article Synopsis
  • The complete chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) of a red alga from the Gracilariaceae family was sequenced and analyzed, consisting of 182,505 base pairs that encode 230 unique genes.
  • This cpDNA features a compact structure without the typical quadripartite layout found in higher plants, with genic regions making up 83.7% of the genome and a low G+C content of 27.4%.
  • Phylogenetic analysis indicates that this alga is closely related to another macroalga, providing valuable molecular data for future studies in the evolution of rhodophyta.

In this study, the complete mitogenome sequence of Redbelly yellowtail fusileer, Caesio cuning (Teleostei: Caesionidae), has been sequenced by the next-generation sequencing method. The assembled mitogenome, consisting of 16 508 bp, had the typical vertebrate mitochondrial gene arrangement, including 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, 2 ribosomal RNAs genes and a non-coding control region of D-loop. D-loop contains 826 bp length that is located between tRNA-Pro and tRNA-Phe.

Semicarbazide (SEM) is a side-chain metabolite of the antibiotic drug nitrofurazone (NFZ) and is employed as a conclusive marker for the use of banned NFZ. Recent studies have shown that SEM in aquatic crustaceans can be derived natively or from other sources. The presence and distribution of endogenous SEM within aquatic crustaceans is examined in this paper, which finds that the SEM content varies amongst the muscle, shell, and viscera of various prawn and crab species within the range of 0.

Exposure to difenoconazole causes changes of thyroid hormone and gene expression levels in zebrafish larvae.

Environ Toxicol Pharmacol

November 2015

Institute of Pesticide and Environmental Toxicology, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310058, PR China. Electronic address:

Difenoconazole was believed to induce a large suite of symptoms during zebrafish development, but little is known about the negative invisible effect known as endocrine disruption. In this study, zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos were exposed to various concentrations of difenoconazole from fertilization to 120 h post-fertilization (hpf), and the whole body content of thyroid hormone and gene transcription in the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis were investigated. Results showed thyroxine (T4) levels were significantly decreased, while triiodothyronine (T3) concentrations were not changed.

Zhoushan Archipelago and the adjacent Xiangshan Harbor are important commercial, tourism, fishing, and mariculture areas. Considering the concern on the effects of anthropogenic activities on the environment, the level and source apportionment of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in surface sediments were investigated. The sum of 16 PAH (∑16 PAH) concentrations in the Zhoushan Archipelago ranged from 3.

Enhancing the production of aquatic animals is crucial for fishery management and aquaculture applications. Ovaries are specialized tissues that play critical roles in producing oocytes and hormones. Significant biochemical changes take place during the sexual maturation of Portunus trituberculatus, but the genetics of this process has not been extensively studied.

Reliably detecting nitrofurazone (NFZ) residues in farmed crab and shrimp was previously hindered by lack of appropriately specific analytical methodology. Parent NFZ rapidly breaks down in meat, and the commonly used side-chain metabolite, semicarbazide (SEM), is non-specific as it occurs naturally in crustacean shell often leading to 'false positive' detections in meat. Using 5-nitro-2-furaldehyde (NF) as marker metabolite, following pre-column derivatization with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH), ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) analysis in negative electrospray ionization mode enabled confirmation of NFZ residues in deliberately treated whole crab, crab meat and shrimp meat, with a limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) below 1 ng g(-1).

Fish are often used as good bioindicators to monitor the occurrence of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) on different scales in recent years. Forty-five golden threads (Nemipterus virgatus) were collected from six sampling sites in the northern South China Sea (SCS) to investigate the geographical distribution of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane and its metabolites (DDTs). Concentrations of PBDEs, PCBs, and DDTs ranged from 1.

April 2015

†Key Lab of Sustainable Utilization of Technology Research for Fishery Resource of Zhejiang Province, Marine Fisheries Research Institute of Zhejiang, 28 Tiyu Street, Zhoushan 316021, P.R. China.

A highly selective and sensitive method was developed for the determination of tetrodotoxin (TTX) in marine organisms by immunoaffinity chromatography (IAC) purification coupled with ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). An IAC column was prepared and used to cleanup the extracted samples. The operating conditions of the IAC column were optimized, and the capacity of new IAC column was found to be 1106 ng mL(-1), which was sufficient for TTX determination.
