Palisaded neutrophilic granulomatous dermatitis in a patient with HLA-B27-negative axial spondyloarthritis: a case report and literature review.

Palisaded neutrophilic granulomatous dermatitis (PNGD) is a rare histopathological pattern belonging to a group of cutaneous granulomatous eruptions that typically manifests with asymptomatic skin-colored, erythematous, or violaceous papules or nodules. PNGD can be triggered by various systemic conditions, including medications and autoimmune and autoinflammatory disorders, as well as malignancies; for example, lymphoproliferative disorders. Therefore, in patients with PNGD an extended diagnostic workup is mandatory as well as follow-up in the case of idiopathic PNGD.

Early neonatal universal ultrasound screening for developmental dysplasia of the hip: a single institution observational study.

Objective: We evaluated the effect of early universal ultrasound (US) screening program for developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH).

Methods: A total of 21,676 newborns between 2006 and 2015 were included in the study. All hips were examined by US within the first week of life.

Association between umbilical cord vitamin D levels and adverse neonatal outcomes.

Objective: We investigated the associations between cord blood concentration of 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D], neonatal outcomes, and the risk of hospitalization during the first year of life.

Methods: A total of 402 newborn infants and their mothers were prospectively enrolled and divided in four groups according to season of the year. We determined 25(OH)D serum concentrations from maternal-neonatal pairs at delivery by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay.

Non-traditional risk factors for coronary calcification and its progression in patients with type 2 diabetes: The impact of postprandial glycemia and fetuin-A.

Objective: This study was performed to assess the impact of risk factors on the presence and progression of coronary calcification in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Methods: We prospectively enrolled 45 patients without cardiovascular or kidney disease. Coronary calcification was measured with multidetector computed tomography at baseline and 18 months.

The Association of Vitamin D Levels with Common Pregnancy Complications.

The association between vitamin D deficiency and various adverse pregnancy outcomes has been extensively investigated in recent years. The pregnant woman is the only source of vitamin D for the foetus. The main sources of vitamin D for pregnant women are sunlight, fortified dairy products, oily fish and dietary supplements.

Switching From Pre-mixed Insulin to Regimens with Insulin Glargine in Type 2 Diabetes: A Prospective, Observational Study of Data From Adriatic Countries.

Introduction: Long-acting insulin analogs such as insulin glargine may offer improved glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) compared to conventional insulin therapies. The objective of this study was to determine whether switching to insulin glargine had beneficial effects on glycemic control, weight gain, and incidence of hypoglycemia in patients with suboptimally managed T2D.

Methods: This prospective observational study was performed on 1041 patients who were suboptimally controlled on pre-mixed insulin therapy and were switched to an insulin glargine regimen.

Effect of the Size of the Left Atrium on Sustained Sinus Rhythm in Patients Undergoing Mitral Valve Surgery and Concomitant Bipolar Radiofrequency Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation.

Atrial fibrillation is associated with systemic embolization and complications due to anticoagulant therapy. Radiofrequency ablation has been established as an effective and safe method for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the size of the left atrium on the outcome of surgical radiofrequency ablation.

Seasonal variations of vitamin D concentrations in pregnant women and neonates in Slovenia.

Objective: While foreign research shows a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in pregnant women and consequently in neonates, we do not have any data on vitamin D concentration in these risk groups for Slovenia. We performed a prospective study to evaluate vitamin D concentration in pregnant women and neonates in Maribor region.

Study Design: We determined 25-hydroxy-vitamin D concentration from blood samples taken before delivery from 100 pregnant women who gave birth in Maribor University Clinical Centre in September and December 2013, respectively, and from the cord blood of their neonates.
