Purpose: Although ventilation/perfusion (V/Q) scintigraphy is a widely used imaging test, different options are possible for the acquisition and interpretation of the scan. The aim of this study was to assess current practices regarding the use and interpretation of lung scintigraphy in various clinical indications.
Patients And Methods: An online survey comprising 25 questions was sent to nuclear medicine departments in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and United States between 2022 and 2023.

Introduction: Partial cystectomy aims to preserve bladder function, yet its urodynamic impacts remain unclear. We investigate these effects using an ex vivo porcine model, evaluating bladder volume, compliance, and wall thickness, alongside with thermal damage after bi- and monopolar resection.
Methods: Within an artificial human pelvis, we conducted partial bladder wall resections (5 cm2, 10 cm2).

Unlabelled: Open abdomen (OA) is a well-established procedure for life-threatening illnesses such as septic peritonitis, abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS), and damage control surgery (DCS). Furthermore, in cases of life-saving aortic repair after perforation of abdominal aortic aneurysm, an OA is sometimes indicated. Definitive fascial closure (DFC) is one of the main goals during treatment to prevent further complications such as fistula formation and the development of an incisional hernia.

Background: Due to superior image quality and daily adaptive planning, MR-guided stereotactic body radiation therapy (MRgSBRT) has the potential to further widen the therapeutic window in radiotherapy of localized prostate cancer. This study reports on acute toxicity rates and patient-reported outcomes after MR-guided adaptive ultrahypofractionated radiotherapy for localized prostate cancer within the prospective, multicenter phase II trial.
Materials And Methods: A total of 69 patients with localized prostate cancer underwent MRgSBRT with daily online plan adaptation.

Microelectrode arrays (MEAs) have proven to be a powerful tool to study electrophysiological processes over the last decades with most technology developed for investigation of the heart or brain. Other targets in the field of bioelectronic medicine are the peripheral nervous system and its innervation of various organs. Beyond the heart and nervous systems, the beta cells of the pancreatic islets of Langerhans generate action potentials during the production of insulin.

Background: The tumor involvement of lymph nodes (LN) in N2 station is a very important factor for the further therapy decision and the prognosis of lung cancer patients. Today, integrated positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) is considered to be the new standard in the staging of bronchial carcinoma. The aim of this study is to investigate the correctness of the clinical staging of the mediastinal LNs in operated patients and to investigate the sensitivity and specificity of the PET-CT examination for mediastinal LNs.

Purpose: Body weight and preoperative weight loss (WL) are controversially discussed as risk factors for postoperative morbidity and mortality in colorectal cancer surgery. The objective of this study is to determine whether body mass index (BMI) or WL is associated with a higher postoperative complication rate.
Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, data analysis of 1241 consecutive patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery in an 11-year period was performed.

In patients with relapse of classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) after autologous stem cell transplant, brentuximab vedotin and anti-PD1 treatment, the outcome is poor. To assess the efficacy of the bispecific anti-CD30/CD16A, NK-cell engaging antibody AFM13 and to select the optimal treatment schedule (arm A-C), we initiated a randomized two-stage phase II trial (NCT02321592). Due to slow recruitment, the trial was terminated after treatment of 25 patients.

Background: Reported incidence of anastomotic leakage (AL) of rectal anastomoses is up to 29% with an overall mortality up to 12%. Nevertheless, there is no uniform evidence-based diagnostic procedure for early detection of AL. The objective of this prospective clinical trial was to demonstrate the diagnostic value of early postoperative flexible endoscopy for rectal anastomosis evaluation.

Background: Several strategies have been investigated to improve the 4% survival advantage of adjuvant chemotherapy in early-stage non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In this investigator-initiated study we aimed to evaluate the predictive utility of the messenger RNA (mRNA) expression levels of excision repair cross complementation group 1 (ERCC1) and thymidylate synthase (TS) as assessed in resected tumor.
Patients And Methods: Seven hundred and seventy-three completely resected stage II-III NSCLC patients were enrolled and randomly assigned in each of the four genomic subgroups to investigator's choice of platinum-based chemotherapy (C, n = 389) or tailored chemotherapy (T, n = 384).

Open surgery allows the use of all 6 degrees of freedom (DOF; x-y-z and roll-pitch-yaw), whereas laparoscopy requires working under limitation to 4 axes. We present a prospective experimental study evaluating translational and rotational DOF restriction in surgical suturing tasks. An experimental platform included a kinematic structure that limited the maneuverability of the surgical instruments.

Introduction: Robust data on the outcome of MET-aberrant NSCLC with nontargeted therapies are limited, especially in consideration of the heterogeneity of MET-amplified tumors (METamp).
Methods: A total of 337 tumor specimens of patients with MET-altered Union for International Cancer Control stage IIIB/IV NSCLC were analyzed using next-generation sequencing, fluorescence in situ hybridization, and immunohistochemistry. The evaluation focused on the type of MET aberration, co-occurring mutations, programmed death-ligand 1 expression, and overall survival (OS).

Cardiac surgery and subsequent treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) has been shown to be associated with functional decline, especially in elderly patients. Due to the different assessment tools and assessment periods, it remains yet unclear what parameters determine unfavorable outcomes. This study sought to identify risk factors during the entire perioperative period and focused on the decline in activity of daily living (ADL) half a year after cardiac surgery.

Background: As a consequence of increasing emergency medical service (EMS) missions requiring an EMS physician on site, we had implemented a unique prehospital telemedical emergency service as a new structural component to the conventional physician-based EMS in Germany.
Objective: We sought to assess the utilization, safety, and technical performance of this telemedical emergency service.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of all primary emergency missions with telemedical consultation of an EMS physician in the City of Aachen (250,000 inhabitants) during the first 3 operational years of our tele-EMS system.

Purpose: Orbital decompression surgery is performed in patients with Graves' orbitopathy to treat dysthyroid optical neuropathy (DON) and reduce disfiguring proptosis. The intended proptosis reduction can deviate from the postoperative result and changes of motility with consecutive diplopia can occur. We performed a retrospective study to identify anatomical factors in computed tomography (CT), which influence the surgical effect and postoperative ocular motility and diplopia.

Introduction: The objective was to assess quality of life (QoL) in lung cancer survivors, compare it to the general population, and identify factors associated with global QoL, physical functioning, emotional functioning, fatigue, pain, and dyspnea.
Methods: Data from NSCLC patients who had survived 1 year or longer after diagnosis were collected cross-sectionally in a multicenter study. QoL was assessed with the European Organisation for the Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Questionnaire (QLQ)-C30 and the lung cancer module QLQ-LC13 across different clinical subgroups and compared to age- and sex-standardized general population reference values.
