Background: The aim of the study was to investigate if parameters associated with human epidermal growth factor receptor type 2 () status ( gene copy number, ratio or polysomy of chromosome 17) are related to various biological features potentially responsible for trastuzumab resistance (PTEN, IGF-1R, MUC4, EGFR, HER3, HER4, and mutation status of ) as well as their influence on survival of HER2-positive breast cancer patients treated with adjuvant chemotherapy and trastuzumab.
Patients And Methods: The investigated group consisted of 117 patients with invasive ductal breast cancer (T≥1, N≥0, M0) with overexpression of HER2, who underwent radical surgery between 2007 and 2014. Status of ER, PR, and HER2 expression was retrieved from patients' files.

Purpose ARCHER 1050, a randomized, open-label, phase III study of dacomitinib versus gefitinib in treatment-naïve patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and activating mutations in EGFR, reported significant improvement in progression-free survival with dacomitinib. The mature overall survival (OS) analysis for the intention-to-treat population is presented here. Patients and Methods In this multinational, multicenter study, patients age 18 years or older (≥ 20 years in Japan and Korea) who had an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status of 0 or 1 and newly diagnosed NSCLC with activating mutations in EGFR (exon 19 deletion or exon 21 L858R) were enrolled and randomly assigned in a 1:1 manner to dacomitinib (n = 227) or gefitinib (n = 225).

Craniosynostosis (CS) refers to the group of craniofacial malformations characterized by the premature closure of one or more cranial sutures. The disorder is clinically and genetically heterogeneous and occurs usually as an isolated trait, but can also be syndromic. In 30-60% of patients, CS is caused by known genetic factors; however, in the rest of the cases, causative molecular lesions remain unknown.

Introduction: The efficacy and safety of atezolizumab versus the efficacy and safety of docetaxel as second- or third-line treatment in patients with advanced NSCLC in the primary (n = 850) and secondary (n = 1225) efficacy populations of the randomized phase III OAK study (respectively referred to as the intention-to-treat [ITT] 850 [ITT850] and ITT1225) at an updated data cutoff were assessed.
Methods: Patients received atezolizumab, 1200 mg, or docetaxel, 75 mg/m, intravenously every 3 weeks until loss of clinical benefit or disease progression, respectively. The primary end point was overall survival (OS) in the ITT population and programmed death-ligand 1-expressing subgroup.

Background: NEPA, an oral fixed combination of the NK1RA netupitant (300 mg) and clinically/pharmacologically distinct 5-HT3RA palonosetron (PALO, 0.50 mg), is the first fixed antiemetic combination to have been approved. A single oral NEPA capsule plus dexamethasone (DEX) given before anthracycline-cyclophosphamide (AC) and non-AC highly emetogenic chemotherapy (HEC) showed superior prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) over PALO plus DEX for 5 days postchemotherapy.

Background: Colorectal cancer is one of the most common and significant malignancies in the world. YKL-40 (chitinase-3-like protein 1) is involved in cell proliferation, migration, inflammation, and tissue remodeling; and serum levels of YKL-40 are associated with patient outcome in various cancers. The aim of this study was to assess the potential clinical usage of YKL-40 pretreatment serum levels as a prognostic biomarker in rectal cancer.

Objectives: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) often reactivates in ulcerative colitis (UC). In diagnostics, along with immunohistochemistry (IHC) of colonic biopsies, blood CMV polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is gaining increasing application. We aimed to assess agreement between the density of infected colonic cells by IHC and the viral load in the blood by PCR.

Background And Purpose: An audit methodology for verifying the implementation of output factors (OFs) of small fields in treatment planning systems (TPSs) used in radiotherapy was developed and tested through a multinational research group and performed on a national level in five different countries.
Materials And Methods: Centres participating in this study were asked to provide OFs calculated by their TPSs for 10 × 10 cm, 6 × 6 cm, 4 × 4 cm, 3 × 3 cm and 2 × 2 cm field sizes using an SSD of 100 cm. The ratio of these calculated OFs to reference OFs was analysed.

Background: Pediatric Phase I cancer trials are critical for establishing the safety and dosing of anti-cancer treatments in children. Their implementation, however, must contend with the rarity of many pediatric cancers and limits on allowable risk in minors. The aim of this study is to describe the risk and benefit for pediatric cancer Phase I trials.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the trachea is a relatively rare tumor among thoracic diseases. The present study reports the case of a 23-year-old woman with ACC of the trachea who underwent surgical resection of the tumor in The National Institute of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases (Warsaw, Poland). Histopathological examination revealed that the tumor was not completely resected (R2 resection) and strict observation of the patient was therefore prescribed.

Background And Purpose: Short-course radiotherapy (25 Gy in five fractions) was recently shown in a randomized phase III trial to be non-inferior to 40 Gy in 15 fractions in elderly and/or frail patients with glioblastoma multiforme. This study compared the cost-effectiveness of the two regimens.
Material And Methods: The direct unit costs of imaging, radiotherapy (RT), and dexamethasone were collected from the five primary contributing countries to the trial, constituting the data of 88% of all patients.

Background/aim: It is possible that the degree of enhancement on contrast-enhanced spectral mammography (CESM), a new diagnostic method, might provide prognostic information for breast cancer patients. Therefore, in a group of 82 breast cancer patients, we analyzed the prognostic significance of degree and pattern of enhancement on CESM as well as its relation to: (a) breast cancer immunophenotype (based on ER/PR/HER2 status) (b) podoplanin expression in cancer stroma (lymphatic vessel density plus podoplanin-positivity of cancer-associated fibroblasts), and (c) other histological parameters.
Materials And Methods: For each tumor the intensity of enhancement on CESM was qualitatively assessed as strong or weak/medium, while the pattern - as homogenous and heterogenous.

Objectives: Hypoparathyroidism is the most frequent complication of thyroidectomy. The incidence rates of temporary and permanent postoperative hypoparathyroidism vary from 7 to more than 60% and from 0 to 9%, respectively.
Design: The aim of the study has been to evaluate the incidence of hypoparathyroidism and clinical manifestations of hypocalcaemia after total thyroidectomy, as well as assess factors that affect the frequency of the symptomatic hypocalcaemia, and benefits resulting from the measurement of parathyroid hormone (PTH) concentration on the first day after thyroidectomy.
