Background: The comparison between profiles during the commissioning of the treatment planning system is an essential procedure. It is impossible to designate a field size for off-axis, wedged, and FFF beams directly by using the definition of the on-axis symmetric field size. This work proposes the use of different characteristic points as indicators of the field size for commissioning and QA purposes.

The increasing number of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) procedures and lower transplant-related mortality has led to a growing population of survivors facing long-term increased risk of secondary malignancy, including cutaneous neoplasms. In this review, we aim to discuss the incidence, risk factors and preventive strategies for secondary skin neoplasms after autologous and allogeneic HSCT. Cutaneous neoplasms, such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma, are among the most common solid cancers arising in patients after HSCT.

Water-soluble polymer-drug conjugates were obtained and analyzed towards their potential use as prodrugs for two hydrophobic antipsoriatic agents, including methotrexate (MTX) and acitretin (AC). The conjugation efficacy of MTX decreased with a decreasing molar ratio of N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) repeating units in the polymethacrylic chains. Cytotoxicity of positively charged (from +5 to +10 mV) nano- and microparticles (3-1500 nm in DMEM at 37 °C) were estimated by in vitro MTT and Annexin-V apoptosis assays on Me45, NHDF, HaCaT and BEAS-2B cell lines.

Heat shock proteins (HSPs), a large group of highly evolutionary conserved proteins, are considered to be main elements of the cellular proteoprotection system. HSPs are encoded by genes activated during the exposure of cells to proteotoxic factors, as well as by genes that are expressed constitutively under physiological conditions. HSPs, having properties of molecular chaperones, are involved in controlling/modulation of multiple cellular and physiological processes.

Nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) is highly prevalent in southern Chinese populations but it is rare in most parts of the world. A few studies were performed in nonendemic regions of the world, and suggested the prognostic value of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA load in blood. In this study, EBV DNA presence and viral load (VL) level in the blood of patients with NPC in Polish population were presented.

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are a large group of chaperones considered critical for maintaining cellular proteostasis. Their aberrant expression in tumors can modulate the course of processes defined as hallmarks of cancer. Previously, we showed that both stress-inducible HSPA1 and testis-enriched HSPA2, highly homologous members of the HSPA (HSP70) family, are often overexpressed in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC).

Introduction: Nutritional treatment in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma cancer (HNSCC) patients undergoing radio-/chemo-radiotherapy (RT/CHRT) is complex and requires a multidisciplinary approach. In this study the real-time dynamic changes in serum metabolome during RT/CHRT in HNSCC patients were monitored using NMR-based metabolomics.
Objectives: The main goal was to find the metabolic markers that could help prevent of acute radiation sequelae (ARS) escalation.
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is an etiologic factor in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). HPV(+) cancers respond favorably to therapy potentially due to more robust anti-tumor immune responses. We hypothesized that tumor-derived exosomes (TEX) produced by HPV(+) or HPV(-) HNSCCs differentially modulate anti-tumor immune responses.

Purpose: Blood is the most common replacement tissue used to study systemic responses of organisms to different types of pathological conditions and environmental insults. Local irradiation during cancer radiotherapy induces whole body responses that can be observed at the blood proteome and metabolome levels. Hence, comparative blood proteomics and metabolomics are emerging approaches used in the discovery of radiation biomarkers.
