With the rapid advancement of diabetes technology, the number of patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) using automated insulin delivery (AID) systems is increasing, making the presence of such patients in the perioperative period more common. This study presents two cases of T1D patients who underwent thyroidectomy while using AID, following a protocol designed in collaboration with the diabetology, anesthesiology, and surgical teams. Two female patients, aged 12 and 33 years, both using AID systems, were admitted for elective thyroidectomy.

Historically, several classification systems have been used for brachytherapy, and they were based on the type of clinical purpose, type of implant and timing of the implant, dose-rate, and type of loading for treatment delivery. However, over the last decades, there have been some major technological advancements, including the introduction of image-guidance and possibility to modulate the dose delivered, which have led several authors (in order to highlight the differences between old technique and new approach) to label it in a different way by replacing "brachytherapy" with "interventional radiotherapy". Modern interventional procedures involve several key aspects, which contribute to the complexity of implant phase, such as implant type, imaging used during the procedure, and role of multi-disciplinary team in operating room.

In the era of next-generation sequencing, the genetic background of cancer, including melanoma, appears to be thoroughly established. However, evaluating the oncogene BRAF mutation in codon V600 is still the only companion diagnostic genomic test commonly implemented in clinics for molecularly targeted treatment of advanced melanoma. Are we wasting the collected genomic data? Will we implement our current genomic knowledge of melanoma in clinics soon? This question is rather urgent because new therapeutic targets and biomarkers are needed to implement more personalized, patient-tailored therapy in clinics.

Background: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is one of the most prevalent cancers worldwide. The identification of molecular alterations adding to the individual risk of HNSCC development and progression is one of the most important challenges in studies on cancer genetics. MicroRNAs (miRNAs), which belong to the group of important post-transcriptional regulators of human gene expression, seem to be valuable options for consideration as key modifiers of individual cancer risk, and therefore may be helpful in predicting inter-individual differences in cancer risk, response to treatment and prognosis.

Background: Numerous observational studies have demonstrated that circulating lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] might be inversely related to the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, recent Mendelian randomization (MR) studies do not consistently support this association. The results of in vitro research suggest that high insulin concentrations can suppress Lp(a) levels by affecting apolipoprotein(a) [apo(a)] synthesis.

Objectives: Cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitors (CDK4/6i) have significantly improved the survival of patients with hormone receptor-positive HER2-negative advanced breast cancer (ABC). Although stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) is used more often in routine clinical practice, data on the safety and efficacy of combining SABR with CDK4/6i are lacking. Herein, we present the results of SABR combined with CDK4/6i in ABC.

Purpose: External beam radiotherapy (EBRT) with or without brachytherapy boost (BTB) has not been compared in prospective studies using guideline-recommended radiation dose and recommended androgen-deprivation therapy (ADT). In this multicenter retrospective analysis, we compared modern-day EBRT with BTB in terms of biochemical control (BC) for intermediate-risk (IR) and high-risk (HR) prostate cancer.
Methods: Patients were treated for primary IR or HR prostate cancer during 1999-2019 at three high-volume centers.
Treatment algorithms differ for adult patients with Philadelphia-negative (Ph-) and Philadelphia-positive (Ph+) acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). For Ph- ALL intensive induction-consolidation chemotherapy using "pediatric-inspired" protocols is a standard of care. Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT) from either an HLA-matched sibling, unrelated or haploidentical donor should be considered for patients with high estimated risk of relapse.

Background: There are definite reasons to implement molecular diagnostics based on the measurement of human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA in liquid biopsy into clinical practice. It is a quick, repeatable, and health-safe test for cancer biomarkers in the blood. In this study, we investigated whether the circulating tumor-related HPV16 (ctHPV16) viral load (VL) in patients with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) was important for determining the risk of locoregional recurrence-free survival (LRFS), metastasis-free survival (MFS), and overall survival (OS).

Cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitors (CDK4/6is) are the mainstay of treatment of hormone receptor/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-patients with advanced breast cancer (ABC). Despite improvements in overall survival, most patients experience disease progression. Biomarkers derived from a liquid biopsy are appealing for their potential to detect resistance to treatment earlier than computed tomography imaging.
