Porous starch can be applied as an adsorbent and encapsulant for bioactive substances in the food and pharmaceutical industries. By using appropriate modification methods (chemical, physical, enzymatic, or mixed), it is possible to create pores on the surface of the starch granules without disturbing their integrity. This paper aimed to analyze the possibility of obtaining a porous structure for native corn, potato, and pea starches using a combination of ultrasound, enzymatic digestion, and freeze-drying methods.

This work describes a new electrochemical biosensor for the simultaneous determination of catechol and hydroquinone. A laccase biorecognition layer was deposited using an innovative soft plasma polymerization technique onto a multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) to sufficiently separate catechol (CT) and hydroquinone (HQ) oxidation peaks. The electrochemical analysis carried out for MWCNTs with various morphologies was supported by density functional theory (DFT) calculations showing differences in the electronic structures of both dihydroxybenzene isomers and the MWCNTs forming the biosensor interlayer.

Background: Congenital toxoplasmosis (CT) occurs mainly by primary maternal infection during pregnancy. It is estimated that the incidence of vertical transmission to the fetus is 20% and that infected women are more likely to have a premature birth or low birth weight neonate since there is an association between CT and the rate of premature birth and low birth weight. The names of plants convey information on their appearance (shape, structure, colour), taste or smell, their uses (practical, ceremonial, magical and medicinal) as well as the beliefs and convictions associated with them. Assuming that the particular features of plants, entrenched in their names, must have been important to language users for some reason, the analysis of plant names can help reconstruct traditional knowledge about plants. The author analyses the standard and dialectal names for the black elder (Sambucus nigra) in Polish, juxtaposing the plant's features revealed in its names (linguistic data) with the cultural accounts associated with the plant ("with-linguistic" data).

The study aims to assess the consistency and justifications of AOTMiT recommendations compared to that of other HTA agencies in 11 countries. A total of 2496 reimbursement recommendations published by 12 HTA agencies for 464 medicinal products and 525 indications were analyzed.

In this paper, we report a new generation of polymeric networks as potential functional material based on changes in molecular dynamics in the solid state. The material is obtained by free radical polymerization of a diacrylate derivative bearing a steroid (stator) and a 1,4-diethynyl-phenylene-d fragment (rotator).
