Cerium(IV)-catalyzed allylic oxidation of 3-sulfolene: An efficient tool for the synthesis of 4-substituted sulfol-2-enes with antiproliferative activity.

Cyclic sulfones play an important role in the field of drug discovery and design due to their valuable properties and their broad range of applications. Herein, we report an efficient cerium(IV)-catalyzed allylic oxidation of a simple 3-sulfolene. This process provides a straightforward and facile approach to sulfol-2-en-4-one, a versatile synthetic intermediate.

[Cytostatic and cytotoxic waste - rules of conduct in Poland].

Poland is one of the European countries with the highest level of production of dangerous medical waste. Although in Europe the volume of produced cytotoxic and cytostatic waste (used in chemotherapy by oncological patients) has been declining for several years, in Poland a reverse trend has been observed. As this waste puts the safety of medical workers and patients at risk, special handling procedures are required to limit the harmful effect of these drugs on human health.

Lublin is the capital of Polish speech and language therapy (SLT) and this fact is justified by both historical as well as support in evaluating the potential of science - research and teaching, particularly in connection with the activities of the Department of Logopedics/SLT and Applied Linguistics of University of Maria Curie-Skłodowska and Polish Logopedic Society. The article discusses the history of the formation of SLT in Poland, strongly associated with Lublin, and also presents Lublin SLT educational traditions and the current teaching and research activities of the Department of Logopedics/SLT and Applied Linguistics of UMCS.
