Background: The WHO ordinal severity scale has been used to predict mortality and guide trials in COVID-19. However, it has its limitations.
Objective: The present study aims to compare three classificatory and predictive models: the WHO ordinal severity scale, the model based on inflammation grades, and the hybrid model.

Objective: To study the impact of neoadjuvant therapies on postoperative complications and mortality among non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients subjected to anatomic lung resection and included in the Spanish cohort of the video-assisted thoracic surgery (GE-VATS) multicenter database.
Methods: The study included a total of 3085 patients from 33 centers between December 2016 and March 2018. We performed a comparative analysis of the complications and mortality in patients who received neoadjuvant therapies (n = 263) versus those who did not (n = 2822).

Objective: Lung ultrasound is a useful tool for diagnosis and follow-up of diseases in critically ill neonates. Its use is increasingly widespread thanks to its advantages over other imaging tests and the rapidly growing body of evidence to support it, and "point-of-care ultrasound" (POCUS) has become a key component in neonatal guidelines. The objective of this special article is to present the foundations and the established diagnostic and therapeutic applications of lung ultrasonography as well as introducing new applications.

Background: This study aimed to assess observer variability and describe renal resistive index (RRI) and pulsatility index (PI) before and after onset of continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT). A secondary objective was to correlate Doppler ultrasound findings with those from direct measurement of renal blood flow (RBF).
Methods: This is a prospective observational study in hemodynamically stable Maryland piglets with and without acute kidney injury (AKI) and in hemodynamically unstable critically ill children requiring CKRT.

Evidence suggests that pregnant women are at a higher risk of complications compared to the general population when infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and the reasons that lead them to need intensive care are not clear. This is a prospective multicenter study of SARS-CoV-2 positive pregnant women, registered by the Spanish Obstetric Emergency Group, with the objective to define the characteristics of the mothers who were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and to investigate the causes and risk factors for ICU admission. A total of 1347 infected pregnant women were registered and analyzed, of whom, 35 (2.

Background: Oncological outcomes of self-expanding metallic stent used as a bridge to surgery in potential curative patients with left-sided colonic cancer obstruction remain unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate perioperative and mid-term oncological outcomes of 2 of the currently most commonly performed treatments in left-sided colonic cancer obstruction.
Methods: This is a retrospective multicenter study including patients with left-sided colonic cancer obstruction treated with curative intent between 2013 and 2017.

Chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO) is a rare idiopathic autoinflammatory bone disease characterised by noninfective inflammation of bones. Diagnostic approach is challenging and requires exclusion of other causes such as malignancies or infections. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and corticosteroids are usually applied as first-line therapy in CRMO patients; however, some cases require more intensive therapy with second-line agents to control disease activity.

Background: Antimicrobial defined daily dose (DDD), a standardized metric to assess antimicrobial consumption in adult population, has limitations hampering its use in neonatal patients. This study proposes an alternative DDD design applicable for neonates.
Methods: Neonates (<1 month-old) from 6 Spanish hospitals during a 12-months period were included.

Retrospective study including 84 neonates ≥ 36 weeks of gestational age with HIE and TH with SEPs performed in the first 14 days of life. SEPs from the median nerve were performed after completion of TH.

Recent evidence confirms the risks of discontinuity of care when young people make a transition from child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) to adult mental health services (AMHS), although robust data are still sparse. We aimed to identify when and how patients get lost to care during transition by tracking care pathways and identifying factors which influence dropping out of care during transition. This is a retrospective observational study of 760 patients who reached the transition age boundary within 12 months before transition time and being treated at CAMHS for at least during preceding 18 months.

Unlabelled: Neonatal pneumothorax (NP) is a potentially life-threatening condition. Lung ultrasound (LUS) has shown higher sensitivity and specificity in diagnosis compared to x-rays, but evidence regarding its usefulness in complex NP is lacking. We report four neonates suffering from cardiac or esophageal malformations who developed lateral and/or posterior pneumothoraces, in which LUS helped, making NP diagnosis and management easier and faster.

We present a case of a 10-year-old male with Staphylococcus aureus mitral endocarditis who was initially misdiagnosed with multisystem inflammatory syndrome associated with coronavirus disease 2019, with eventual fatal outcome due to brain hemorrhage after cardiac intervention. Our case differs from recent studies, in which microbleeds did not increase the risk of hemorrhagic stroke or global mortality risk.

Pregnant women are particularly vulnerable to the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic. In addition to unfavorable perinatal outcomes, there has been an increase in obstetric interventions. With this study, we aimed to clarify the reasons, using Robson's classification model, and risk factors for cesarean section (C-section) in SARS-CoV-2-infected mothers and their perinatal results.

Background: Distal minimally invasive metatarsal osteotomies have become increasingly popular. This technique requires fluoroscopic control, but recently, an ultrasound-guided procedure has been described. The aim of this anatomical study was to assess the quality safety of ultrasound-guided minimally invasive metatarsal osteotomies.

Background: Approximately 15% of patients infected by SARS-CoV-2 develop a distress syndrome secondary to a host hyperinflammatory response induced by a cytokine storm. Myelosuppression is associated with a higher risk of infections and mortality. There are data to support methods of management for neutropenia and COVID-19.
