Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC 29425, USA. Electronic address:

The aim of this paper was to systematically review and compare the Apnoea-Hypopnoea Index (AHI), Lowest O Saturation (LSAT), Oxygen Desaturation Index (ODI), Epworth Sleep Scale (ESS), and Body Mass Index (BMI) between dentofacial (skeletal) classes I, II, and III before and after maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA). The PubMed, Scopus, and CINAHL databases were searched from inception to 23 November 2022. Two reviewers screened for articles that reported occlusion/malocclusion class type as I, II, or III, and reported preoperative and postoperative AHI, LSAT, ODI, ESS, and/or BMI.

Nursing Department, College of Applied Medical Sciences, Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University, Wadi Addawasir, Saudi Arabia; Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Department, Faculty of Nursing, Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt. Electronic address:

Background: Up to one-third of dementia cases may be preventable, with evidence suggesting that modifying lifestyle and health behaviors can significantly lower the risk of developing dementia. However, motivating older adults to adopt and sustain these changes poses a considerable challenge, particularly when facing the specter of dementia.

Aim: To explore the interaction effect between dementia fear and dementia literacy on the perceived ability of community-dwelling older adults to reduce dementia risk and engage in dementia screening.

In this paper, the unified approach is used in acquiring some new results to the coupled Maccari system (MS) in Itô sense with multiplicative noise. The MS is a nonlinear model used in hydrodynamics, plasma physics, and nonlinear optics to represent isolated waves in a restricted region. We provide new results with complicated structures to this model, including hyperbolic, trigonometric and rational function solutions.

Background: UpToDate, no drugs have been approved to treat nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, the advanced stage of the most prevalent liver disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. The present study was conducted to explore the potential influences of L-carnitine on the pathomechanisms of hepatic injury that mediate progression to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis in dexamethasone-toxified rats.

Methods: Male Wistar rats were allocated as follows: dexamethasone group, rats received dexamethasone (8 mg/kg/day, intraperitoneally) for 6 days; DEXA-LCAR300, DEXA-LCAR500, and DEXA-MET groups, rats administered L-carnitine (300 or 500 mg/kg/day, IP) or metformin (500 mg/kg/day, orally) one week prior to dexamethasone injection (8 mg/kg/day, IP) and other six days alongside dexamethasone administration.

The current study introduces the first micellar-enhanced spectrofluorimetric approach for the estimation of the commonly abused CNS antitussive, dextromethorphan (DXM) in its syrup and biological fluids. A micellar solution of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) containing DXM showed high native fluorescence emission at 305 nm following excitation at 224 nm. Using SDS as a micellar system resulted in about a 2.

Background: Endometriosis, a condition that significantly impacts the quality of life for affected women, manifests with a spectrum of symptoms ranging from mild discomfort to severe pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, and infertility. A previous single-center study suggested an elevated prevalence of endometriosis in Jordan, prompting the need for larger studies to confirm these findings.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study involving a sample of 866 women who underwent various laparoscopic procedures for different indications at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jordan University Hospital and Al-Karak Governmental Hospital, two tertiary referral hospitals in Jordan between January 2015 and March 2023.

Deep learning techniques are increasingly being used to classify medical imaging data with high accuracy. Despite this, due to often limited training data, these models can lack sufficient generalizability to predict unseen test data, produced in different domains, with comparable performance. This study focuses on thyroid histopathology image classification and investigates whether a Generative Adversarial Network [GAN], trained with just 156 patient samples, can produce high quality synthetic images to sufficiently augment training data and improve overall model generalizability.

The goal of this work was to synthesize new compounds for anticancer evaluation as a trial to obtain new antitumor agents with higher activity and fewer side effects. Therefore, the precursor 2,2'-(1,4-phenylenebis (thiazole-4,2-diyl))bis (3-(dimethylamino)acrylonitrile) was used to synthesize various azolopyrimidine derivatives connected to the thiazole moiety. Compounds -, including pyrazolopyrimidine, triazolopyrimidine, and others, were produced by reacting enaminonitrile with different -nucleophiles.

December 2024

Department of International Affairs and Social Sciences, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Zayed University, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The Israel military occupation, ongoing for over 75 years, has profoundly impacted the health and well-being of Palestinians. Despite longstanding calls for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and sustainable development, the response of global health systems and organizations to crises such as the recent large-scale military assault on Gaza in October 2023 has been inadequate.
