Purpose This study aimed to determine the costs associated with prostatic artery embolization (PAE) performed in hospital and outpatient-based lab (OBL) settings. Methods Procedures were performed in similarly equipped procedure suites located within a tertiary hospital or OBL. Time-driven activity-based costing (TDABC) was utilized to calculate procedural costs incurred by the institution.

Purpose: To characterize the relationship between ablation zone volume (AZV) and microwave ablation (MWA) energy in an in vivo porcine liver model following arterial embolization.
Materials And Methods: With Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) approval, 11 female swine underwent either right (n = 5) or left (n = 6) hepatic artery embolization under fluoroscopic guidance. Subsequently, ultrasound (US)-guided MWA was performed in each liver segment (left lateral, left medial, right medial, and right lateral) at either 30 W (n = 4 lobes), 60 W (n = 4), 65 W (n = 20), 90 W (n = 8), 120 W (n = 4), or 140 W (n = 4) continuously for 5 minutes.

Background And Purpose: Mobile stroke units (MSU) have been demonstrated to improve prehospital stroke care in metropolitan and rural regions. Due to geographical, social and structural idiosyncrasies of the German city of Mannheim, concepts of established MSU services are not directly applicable to the Mannheim initiative. The aim of the present analysis was to identify major determinants that need to be considered when initially setting up a local MSU service.

About 500,000 patients with rare adult solid cancers (RASC) are diagnosed yearly in Europe. Delays and unequal quality of management impact negatively their survival. Since 2017, European reference networks (ERN) aim to improve the quality of care of patients with rare disease.

Objective: The Transatlantic Australasian Retroperitoneal Sarcoma Working Group conducted a retrospective study on the disease course and clinical management of ganglioneuromas.
Background: Ganglioneuromas are rare tumors derived from neural crest cells. Data on these tumors remain limited to case reports and single-institution case series.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate whether prostatic artery embolization (PAE) can be considered a long-term cost-effective treatment option in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia in comparison to transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP).
Methods: The in-hospital costs of PAE and TURP in the United States were obtained from a recent cost analysis. Clinical outcomes including nature and rate of adverse events for TURP and PAE along with rates of retreatment because of complications or clinical failure were obtained from peer-reviewed literature.
Brugada syndrome (BrS) is an inherited and rare cardiac arrhythmogenic disease associated with an increased risk of ventricular fibrillation and sudden cardiac death. Different genes have been linked to BrS. The majority of mutations are located in the gene, and the typical abnormal ECG is an elevation of the ST segment in the right precordial leads V1 to V3.

Objectives: Benign leiomyomas are the most common uterine tumors. In contrast, uterine leiomyosarcomas are malignancies with a poor prognosis due to difficulties in early diagnosis and inappropriate surgical treatment. Most often they are diagnosed incidentally after surgery performed for treatment of leiomyoma.

Objective: We investigated the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST).
Methods: In the multicentre PROSa study, the HRQoL of adult GIST patients was assessed between 2017 and 2019 using the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer HRQoL questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30). We performed group comparisons and multivariate linear regressions.

Purpose: Incisional hernia (IH) is not uncommon after liver transplantation (LT). We investigated the long-term outcome of mesh-based hernia repair using an inlay-onlay technique.
Methods: Our analysis was based on a prospective collected database of all LT recipients from our hospital over a period of 15 years.

Background: After receiving a cancer diagnosis patients face many challenges. The association between career situation and financial problems caused by cancer has a substantial impact on quality of life (QoL) among cancer patients. Indeed, the QoL such as physical and mental health of cancer patients is lower when the risk of psychological disorders or distress increases, and chances for cancer cure are reduced.

Introduction: The management of locally advanced extremity soft tissue sarcomas, particularly in terms of a limb salvage strategy, represents a challenge, especially in recurrent tumors. In the context of a patient-tailored multimodal therapy, hyperthermic isolated limb perfusion (ILP) is a promising limb-saving treatment option. We report the outcome of patients with primarily irresectable and locally recurrent soft tissue sarcoma (STS) treated by ILP.

Colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) exhibit distinct histopathological growth patterns (HGPs) that are indicative of prognosis following surgical treatment. This study aims to assess the reliability and replicability of this histological biomarker. Within and between metastasis HGP concordance was analysed in patients who underwent surgery for CRLM.

Neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy (nRCT) can significantly influence the tumor immune architecture that plays a pivotal role in regulating tumor growth. Whereas, various studies have investigated the effect of nRCT on tumor-infiltrating T cells, little is known about its impact on the frequency and activation status of human dendritic cells (DCs). Plasmacytoid DCs (pDCs) essentially contribute to the regulation of innate and adaptive immunity and may profoundly influence tumor progression.

The reported incidence of trocar site hernias in bariatric surgery ranges between 0.5 and 3%. The best available evidence derives from retrospective studies analysing prospective databases, thus including only patients who presented with symptoms or received surgical treatment due to trocar site hernias after a laparoscopic bariatric procedure.

Methods and Results A large retrospective registry was used including all consecutive patients presenting with ventricular tachycardia ( VT ), fibrillation ( VF ), and sudden cardiac arrest ( SCA ) on admission from 2002 to 2016. AMI versus non- AMI and STEMI versus NSTEMI were compared applying multivariable Cox regression models and propensity-score matching for evaluation of the primary prognostic end point defined as long-term all-cause mortality at 2.

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated stapler hepatectomy and use of various energy devices to be safe alternatives to the clamp-crushing technique in elective hepatic resection. In this randomized trial, the effectiveness and safety of stapler hepatectomy were compared with those of parenchymal transection with the LigaSure™ vessel sealing system.
Method: Patients scheduled for elective liver resection at two tertiary-care centres were randomized during surgery to stapler hepatectomy or transection with the LigaSure™ device.

Purpose: Surgical exploration and bowel resection are frequently required for treating non-occlusive mesenteric ischemia. Intraoperative evaluation of intestinal perfusion is subjective and challenging. In this feasibility study, ICG fluorescence angiography was performed in order to evaluate intestinal perfusion in patients with acute mesenteric ischemia.

Purpose: Optimal perfusion of the gastric conduit during esophagectomy is elementary for the anastomotic healing since poor perfusion has been associated with increased morbidity due to anastomotic leaks. Until recently surgical experience was the main tool to assess the perfusion of the anastomosis. We hypothesized that anastomoses located in the zone of optimal ICG perfusion of the gastric conduit ("optizone") have a reduced anastomotic leakage rate after esophagectomy.

Background: Chronic debilitating pain is a rare but significant cause of postoperative morbidity after inguinal surgery. Such pain is usually of neuropathic origin and frequently caused by intraoperative nerve damage. In this retrospective matched-pair study we analysed results of a minimal-invasive approach to neurectomy on quality of life and pain relief.
