Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are widely used as end-stage therapy in patients with advanced heart failure, whereas implantation increases the risks of development of sustained ventricular tachycardia at the later postimplantation stage. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of orally administered amiodarone and propranolol in 3 patients with ventricular tachycardia (VT) after LVAD implantation who were resistant to initial anti-antiarrhythmic drugs. This retrospective cohort study consisted of the initial evaluation of the clinical data of 14 adult patients who underwent implantation of LVAD between January 2019 and March 2021.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness of two brain tumor perfusion MRI techniques: dynamic susceptibility contrast-enhanced (DSC) and arterial spin labeling (ASL), focusing on their qualitative and quantitative diagnostic capabilities.
  • A total of 90 patients treated for malignant brain tumors were analyzed, with imaged perfusion data being categorized into treatment-related changes or relapse/residual mass.
  • Results show that DSC and ASL values are generally higher in relapse cases than in treatment-related changes, with strong correlations between the techniques, indicating potential overlapping effectiveness in diagnosis.

Objective: Fear of falling (FoF) is common in patients with cognitive impairment. However, the role of sarcopenia and malnutrition, which are two important factors that cause falls, on FoF is unknown. The aim of this study was to explore the association between FoF and malnutrition and sarcopenia in older patients with dementia.

Introduction: Male breast cancer, comprising approximately 1% of all breast cancer cases, often leads to the exclusion of male patients as a criterion in clinical trials. While the efficacy of Cyclin-dependent kinases 4 and 6 (CDK 4/6) inhibitors has been established in metastatic hormone receptor-positive (HR +) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2 -) breast cancer in women, limited data exist on their effectiveness in male patients. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of palbociclib or ribociclib in male patients with breast cancer.

Background: Prostate cancer (PC) is the most common type of cancer in elderly men, with a positive correlation with age. As resistance to treatment has developed, particularly in the progressive stage of the disease and in the presence of microfocal multiple bone metastases, new generation radionuclide therapies have emerged. Recently, [Tb], a radiolanthanide introduced for treating micrometastatic foci, has shown great promise for treating prostate cancer.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic significance of the LDH-to-albumin ratio (LAR) in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) receiving nivolumab monotherapy. We comprehensively analyzed the associations between LAR and clinical parameters, progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) to identify reliable biomarkers for treatment selection.

Patients And Methods: A total of 144 patients with metastatic NSCLC treated with nivolumab were included.

Background And Aim: This study aimed to determine treatment outcomes and factors affecting prognosis in patients diagnosed with anal canal cancer who received radical radiotherapy (RT) or radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy (CT-RT) in radiation oncology centers in Turkey and compare the results with literature.

Material And Method: The study included 193 patients with anal canal cancer reported between 1995 and 2019, of which 162 had complete data. The study was conducted in 11 radiation oncology centers, and a joint database was shared among them.

The concept of oligoprogression reflects a situation where a limited number of metastatic tumor sites have progressed and other metastatic sites are under control with current systemic therapy. The optimal management of oligoprogression remains unclear. In this retrospective study, we evaluated the contribution of local ablative treatment approaches after oligoprogression to progression-free survival and response rates (RRs) in patients with renal cell carcinoma ( N : 5), nonsmall cell lung cancer ( N : 1) and melanoma ( N : 21) who received immunotherapy.

Aim: Description of patient characteristics, effectiveness and safety in Turkish patients treated with pazopanib for metastatic soft tissue sarcoma (STS).

Patients And Methods: This multicenter study is based on retrospective review of hospital medical records of patients (≥ 18 years) treated with pazopanib for non-adipocytic metastatic STS at 37 Oncology clinics across Turkey. Objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were evaluated with further analysis of data on the three most common histological subtypes (leiomyosarcoma [LMS], undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma [UPS], synovial sarcoma [SS]) in the cohort.

Aim: Fulvestrant is a drug used in the treatment of metastatic hormone receptor-positive breast cancer (mHRPBC). Although clinical trials have shown the efficacy of fulvestrant, real-life data are limited and data from clinical trials and real-life settings sometimes may be seen differently. Therefore, we retrospectively reviewed mHRPBC patients followed in our center and taking fulvestrant to evaluate the efficacy and clinical outcomes of the drug and also to identify factors affecting the efficacy and clinical outcomes of fulvestrant.

Aim:  Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors of the digestive system and has a poor prognosis. Since recurrence and distant metastasis are common in gastric cancer, it is important to use practical and reliable prognostic parameters. In this study, the prognostic relationship between the ABO blood groups and metastatic gastric cancer was investigated.

Background: We aimed to investigate the effect of hemoglobin/prognostic nutritional index and hemoglobin/red blood cell distribution, which are indicators of inflammation and nutrition, on prognosis and survival in patients with rectal cancer.

Methods: The retrospective study reviewed medical records of 138 patients with rectal cancer who were followed up between 2010 and 2021. The effects of hemoglobin/red blood cell distribution, hemoglobin/prognostic nutritional index, tumor stage, and lymph node status on survival and prognosis were evaluated using univariate and multivariate analyses.
