We aim to study Adverse childhood experiences' (ACEs') association with cognitive decline during adulthood. We reviewed data on subjective cognitive decline (SCD) for those ≥45 years of age. Logistic regression analysis, odds ratio, and 95% confidence interval (CI) assessed the association between ACEs and SCD.

Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) is a significant challenge in psychiatric practice, affecting a substantial proportion of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). Traditional treatment modalities often fall short, necessitating the exploration of alternative therapies. This literature review examines the combined use of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and ketamine in treating TRD.

Catatonia is a complex amalgamation of neuropsychiatric symptoms that can manifest in both psychiatric and neurological conditions. The treatment of catatonia related to psychiatric illnesses is well documented as it typically responds to benzodiazepines and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). However, the treatment of catatonia related to neurological disorders has shown to be more difficult, particularly when associated with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD).

Background: Few studies have rigorously examined the effectiveness of commonly reported coping activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study was designed to assess perceived helpful activities during the pandemic and to investigate the extent to which these activities were associated with psychological outcomes.
Method: Adults living in the US (N = 204), who were part of a longitudinal family study of depression responded to an online survey.

Background: Schizophrenia is associated with an elevated risk for impulsive aggression for which there are few psychosocial treatment options. Neurocognitive and social cognitive deficits have been associated with aggression with social cognitive deficits seemingly a more proximal contributor. The current study examined the effects of combining cognitive and social cognition treatment on impulsive aggression among inpatients with chronic schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder and a history of aggression compared to cognitive remediation treatment alone.

Background And Hypothesis: Impaired insight into the illness and its consequences is associated with poor outcomes in schizophrenia. While transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) may represent a potentially effective treatment strategy to relieve various symptoms of schizophrenia, its impact on insight remains unclear. To investigate whether tDCS would modulate insight in patients with schizophrenia, we undertook a meta-analysis based on results from previous RCTs that investigated the clinical efficacy of tDCS.

Cognitive Remediation Training (CRT) in schizophrenia has made great strides since its introduction in the 1990s. CRT was developed with the aim of improving the everyday functioning of individuals living with cognitive impairment. MEDLINE, PsychINFO, and Google Scholar were searched to extract peer-reviewed randomized controlled trials to produce the current review article.

Schizophrenia at a young age deserves investigation because of the greater severity and burden of illness on individuals and health care than its adult onset. For this study, we included both childhood-onset schizophrenia and early-onset schizophrenia. We used the common term "childhood and adolescent-onset schizophrenia (CAOS)" for either type.

Objective: While clozapine is recognized as the most effective antipsychotic for individuals with treatment-resistant schizophrenia, its effects on neurocognition remain unclear. This study aimed to compare the neurocognitive effects of clozapine treatment to those of non-clozapine antipsychotics in patients with schizophrenia and to examine the role of anticholinergic burden on cognitive impairments.
Design: This was a naturalistic study.

Purpose Of Review: To provide an update of recent studies describing the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on patients with schizophrenia, with particular focus on auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH), cognitive deficits, and negative symptoms.
Recent Findings: As a low-cost, easy-to-use neuromodulation technique, tDCS may have clinical implications for those suffering from treatment-persistent AVH, negative symptoms, and cognitive symptoms in schizophrenia. Over the past decade, tDCS has shown no effects for negative symptoms, except when used at a high frequency of sessions, and inconclusive results for AVH and cognitive symptoms.

Background: Clinician-administered measures of negative symptoms may not capture patients' subjective experiences. The Self-Evaluation of Negative Symptoms (SNS) has shown good psychometric properties when used in outpatients with higher-level functioning schizophrenia. We aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the SNS in low functioning participants with treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS).

Background: The Virtual Reality Functional Capacity Assessment Tool (VRFCAT) is an "applied" game-based assessment that uses a multi-level functional task to assess instrumental activities of daily living (iADL). This study examines the feasibility, convergent validity, and predictive ability of the VRFCAT in a sample of inpatients with chronic schizophrenia.
Methods: Inpatients with a DSM-5 diagnosis of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, completed the VRFCAT prior to discharge.

Purpose/background: One of the major challenges in the treatment of schizophrenia is nonadherence, defined as the failure to take medications as prescribed. Nonadherence is a strong predictor of symptom relapse, hospital readmission, and poorer long-term outcome. Although long-acting injectable antipsychotics (LAIs) have been found to be superior to their oral analogs at reducing relapse in large-scale meta-analyses, their prevalence seldom exceeds 30% even in populations with a history of nonadherence.

Background: Patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) emphasizes the patient perspective and input to inform the research process with the aim to improve the quality of care. Given PCOR's emphasis on the patient perspective, methods to incorporate patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are important. Electronic PROs (ePROs) have been implemented successfully in many populations; however, many of these measurements do not incorporate patient perspective in the development of ePROs.

Background: Negative symptoms and cognitive deficits have a substantial predictive value for functional deficits and recovery in schizophrenia. However, the relationship between negative symptoms and cognitive abnormalities is unclear possibly due to the heterogeneity of negative symptoms. This study used the model of expressive and experiential negative symptoms subfactors to decrease this heterogeneity.

Psychogenic polydipsia or self-induced water intoxication is a potentially lethal condition seen in many chronic psychiatric patients. This is a literature review based on therapeutic significance of Naltrexone in improving compulsive water drinking behavior in chronic psychiatrically ill patients with psychogenic polydipsia. Naltrexone is an opioid antagonist approved by FDA for alcohol dependence.
