Purpose: Radiofrequency ablation has been used to treat chronic shoulder pain with mixed results. Thanks to recent anatomical studies, the precise location of articular branches of the suprascapular, lateropectoral and axillary nerves has been determined. Cooled radiofrequency is a neuroablative modality of treatment which has been demonstrated as efficient in different anatomical locations, and targeting the aforementioned nerves could result in a complete and efficient denervation of the shoulder.

Diagnosing hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD), common overlapping multisystemic conditions featuring symptomatic joint hypermobility, is challenging due to lack of established causes and diagnostic tools. Currently, the 2017 diagnostic criteria for hEDS are used, with non-qualifying cases classified as HSD, although the distinction remains debated. We previously showed extracellular matrix (ECM) disorganization in both hEDS and HSD dermal fibroblasts involving fibronectin (FN), type I collagen (COLLI), and tenascin (TN), with matrix metalloproteinase-generated fragments in conditioned media.

Background: Advanced epithelial ovarian cancer (OC) patients often present with malnutrition; however, the ideal nutritional evaluation tool is unclear. We aimed to evaluate the role of preoperative albumin, Prognostic Nutritional Index [PNI], neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio [NLR], and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio [PLR] as independent predictors of severe postoperative complications and 90-day mortality in OC patients who underwent primary cytoreductive surgery to identify the ideal tool.
Methods: OC patients who underwent surgery at Mayo Clinic (2003-2018) were included; biomarkers were retrospectively retrieved and established cut-offs were utilized.

Helicobacter pylori infection is very common and affects more than one-third of adults in Italy. Helicobacter pylori causes several gastro-duodenal diseases, such as gastritis, peptic ulcer and gastric malignancy, and extra-gastric diseases. The eradication of the bacteria is becoming complex to achieve due to increasing antimicrobial resistance.

Re-usable air/water and suction valves used in endoscopes often demonstrate risk of infection. To the authors' knowledge, the safety and efficacy of re-usable and single-use valves have not been compared to date. As such, a laboratory investigation was undertaken to compare the safety and efficacy of re-usable and single-use valves at 11 Italian endoscopy sites.

Lichen planus (LP) is an immune-mediated chronic inflammatory disease affecting the skin and mucosal membranes, either alone or in combination. LP rarely occurs in the larynx, where it presents as leukoplakia. Additionally, due to its responsiveness to corticosteroid drugs, differential diagnosis from other causes of laryngeal leukoplakia is needed (e.

Treatment with noninvasive ventilation (NIV) in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is frequent. Shortage of intensive care unit (ICU) beds led clinicians to deliver NIV also outside ICUs. Data about the use of NIV in COVID-19 is limited.

Background: Device replacement is the ideal time to reassess health care goals regarding continuing implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) therapy. Only few data are available on the decision making at this time.
Objectives: The goals of this study were to identify factors associated with poor prognosis at the time of ICD replacement and to develop a prognostic index able to stratify those patients at risk of dying early.

The new corona virus disease has started in Wuhan - China at the end of 2019 and quickly spread with a pandemic trend across the rest of the world. The scientific community is making an extraordinary effort to study and control the situation, but the results are just partial. Based on the most recent scientific literature and strong statements by the most prestigious international health institutions, the Italian Society of Digestive Endoscopy has drawn up some recommendations about the use of personal protective equipment, the correct way of dressing and undressing of endoscopists and nurses, before and after digestive endoscopy procedures.

Aims: A validated risk stratification schema for transvenous lead extraction (TLE) could improve the management of these procedures. We aimed to derive and validate a scoring system to efficiently predict the need for advanced tools to achieve TLE success.
Methods And Results: Between November 2013 and March 2018, 1960 leads were extracted in 973 consecutive TLE procedures in two national referral sites using a stepwise approach.

We aim to highlight the key factors for a good outcome of fungal keratitis. We describe a case of contact lens-related Fusarium keratitis in a young girl. After identification of Fusarium spp under direct microscopic examination and in culture, a prolonged treatment with topic natamycin 5% was started and administered for five months with restitutio ad integrum of the eye.

Using mesh or a synthetic prosthesis during tension-free inguinal hernia repair has been shown to be safe and effective. We compared the final outcome in treating inguinal hernia in 45 patients using three different prosthetic materials: 15 patients underwent tension-free inguinal hernia repair using Prolene (polypropylene) mesh, 15 using Vypro (polyglactin and polypropylene) mesh, and 15 with Surgisis-a new bioactive material derived from porcine small intestinal submucosa. The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of tension-free inguinal repair using Surgisis, comparing it with conventional prosthetic materials.

A 77-year-old man with diabetes mellitus presented with a 2-month history of lumbago radiating to the right lower limb as well as high fever spikes. Physical examination revealed a distended abdomen with right lower quadrant tenderness. A computed tomographic scan of the abdomen revealed a large right retroperitoneal cavity containing an air-fluid level that was consistent with a gas-producing abscess.

Primary adenocarcinomas of the retrorectal (presacral) space are uncommon and usually arise from cystic lesions developing from remnants of the embryological postanal gut (tail gut cysts) containing mucous-secreting epithelium. A singular case of a patient who presented with a retrorectal mass is described. A 70-year-old previously healthy man had a four-month history of perianal pain during defecation.

Background: The oxidative damage of RBC membranes in hemodialysis (HD) patients increases red blood cell (RBC) susceptibility to hemolysis and impairs cell survival. Reduction of the oxidative stress might lead to better control of anemia and reduction of the erythropoietin (rhEPO) dose.
Methods: We studied 38 stable HD patients, given a mean dose of rhEPO of 104+/-65 U/kg BW/week, at baseline and during antioxidant treatment with either a full or a 50% dose of EPO.

Calcifying fibrous pseudotumor (CFPT) is a recently described peculiar lesion characterized by the presence of abundant hyalinized collagen with psammomatous or dystrophic calcifications and a lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate. Initially, a few cases of CFPT were observed in the subcutaneous and deep soft tissues, especially at the level of the extremities, trunk, scrotum, groin, neck, and axilla; more recently, several cases have been reported in the pleura. We present a case of CFPT of the gastric wall.
