Plastic bronchitis is rare in adult pulmonology and has a wide range of aetiology. Cast analysis is key in narrowing down the differential diagnosis of plastic bronchitis. If suspected of having lymphocytic PB, complete imaging to evaluate thoracic lymphatics is important to find out the potential causes for PB.

Objective: The objective of this study was to measure and describe the national patient experience of radical cystectomy (RC) pathways in the UK using the validated Cystectomy-Pathway Assessment Tool (C-PAT).
Patients And Methods: A cohort of 1081 patients who underwent RC for bladder cancer, between 1 January 2021 and 31 July 2022 at 33 UK cystectomy centres, returned completed C-PAT responses. SPSS was employed for data summary statistics, including median, interquartile range, Mann Whitney U test or Chi-square test with a 95% confidence interval to assess statistical significance between potentially associated variables.

The National Tracheostomy Safety Project has run high-quality, face-to-face skills courses since 2009. The aim of this project was to produce a virtual reality version of the established course and evaluate its impact on participant learning, and participant and faculty satisfaction. Healthcare staff and students were recruited and randomised to attend one of (1) a face-to-face traditional course (control); (2) a virtual reality course at a conference centre with on-site technical support; (3) a fully remote virtual reality course; the virtual reality groups were combined for the analysis of learning outcomes and satisfaction.

Background: Studies reporting on the incidence of sudden cardiac arrest and/or death (SCA/D) in athletes commonly lack methodological and reporting rigor, which has implications for screening and preventative policy in sport. To date, there are no tools designed for assessing study quality in studies investigating the incidence of SCA/D in athletes.
Methods And Results: The International Criteria for Reporting Study Quality for Sudden Cardiac Arrest/Death tool (IQ-SCA/D) was developed following a Delphi process.
Metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) results from ARSA gene mutations. Affected individuals meet early milestones before neurological deterioration and early death. Atidarsagene autotemcel (arsa-cel), an autologous haematopoietic stem cell gene therapy (HSC-GT) product, has demonstrated sustained clinical benefits in MLD.

Here, we provide a formal definition and discuss the advantages and most common misconceptions around this quantity. We consider the intuition behind different formulations of , the complexities in its estimation (including the unavoidable lags involved), and its value compared to other indicators (e.

The aim of the current study was to examine adolescents' goals when coping with pain and map these goals to the cognitive and emotional profiles of both adolescent and their parent. 17 adolescents (11-16 years) and their parents participated in a cohort study of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA); the adolescents, took part in a two-part interview (about their pain perceptions and about a recent pain experience) and the parents completed an open-ended qualitative survey. The three datasets were analysed following a qualitative framework approach.

Objectives: A subset of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients have increased numbers of airway eosinophils associated with elevated markers of T2 inflammation. This analysis focussed on mast cell counts and mast cell-related gene expression in COPD patients with higher vs lower eosinophil counts.
Methods: We investigated gene expression of tryptase (), carboxypeptidase A3 ), chymase () and two mast cell specific gene signatures; a bronchial biopsy signature (MC) and an IgE signature (MC) using sputum cells and bronchial epithelial brushings.
Background And Aim: Recent studies have highlighted the high worldwide prevalence of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and disparities in its management between ethnic groups. For instance, gut-directed hypnotherapy (GDH), one of the most effective evidence-based treatments for IBS, is not recommended in Asian countries partly due to lack of population-specific outcome data. In this context, we evaluated the outcomes of GDH in an Asian population.

Tuberous sclerosis complex is a genetic disease that can affect multiple organs, commonly the renal, central nervous, cardiac and respiratory systems. Here, we present the peripartum management of a woman with a new diagnosis of tuberous sclerosis complex associated with massive renal angiomyolipomas. There was significant risk of catastrophic haemorrhage from the angiomyolipomas during pregnancy.

Consumption of poppy seeds has been linked to opium-like overdose symptoms, such as reduced consciousness and respiratory depression. However, acute cardiotoxicity secondary to ingestion of contaminated poppy seeds has not been reported previously.

We describe the urgent tracheal re-intubation and subsequent tracheal repair of a previously well 58-year-old man who developed tracheostomy-related tracheomegaly during prolonged mechanical ventilation for coronavirus disease 2019 pneumonitis. Urgent tracheal re-intubation was required due to a persistent cuff leak, pneumomediastinum and malposition of the tracheostomy tube.

Introduction: Hypogonadism is more prevalent in men with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) (25%-40%) than in men without T2DM. Hypogonadism has been associated with poorer glycaemic outcomes and increased cardiovascular morbidity/mortality. We report a 14-year follow-up study to evaluate the influence of baseline testosterone level on T2DM outcomes.

AMH also provides a tool in the investigation of female virilization, premature ovarian failure and polycystic ovarian syndrome in childhood. Robust, assay-specific paediatric AMH reference intervals are therefore required for clinical interpretation of results.

Introduction: Preservation of structural integrity of the endothelial monolayer and maintenance of endothelial cell function are of critical importance in preventing arterial thrombosis, restenosis and atherosclerosis. Obesity has been intimately linked with endothelial dysfunction, and reports of reduced abundance and functional impairment of circulating progenitor cells in obesity have led to the suggestion that defective endothelial repair contributes to obesity-related cardiovascular disease.
Methods: C57BL/6 mice were fed a high-fat diet for either 3 or 6 months to induce obesity; metabolic phenotyping was then carried out before femoral artery wire injury was performed.
