Methods: A 30-question online survey was emailed to European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) ophthalmology section delegates, European Board of Ophthalmology Diploma (EBOD) examiners and presidents of ophthalmology societies affiliated with UEMS/EBO.
Results: A total of 230 ophthalmologists with an average age of 54.

Materials And Methods: A 23-question electronic questionnaire was sent to interns applying for the EBO examination from 2018 to 2022. Responses from French participants were specifically collected and analyzed.

Introduction: Neovascular age-related macular degeneration is a global public-health concern, associated with a considerable burden to individuals, healthcare systems, and society. The objective of this study was to understand different perspectives on the challenges associated with the clinical management of neovascular age-related macular degeneration, which could elucidate measures to comprehensively improve clinical care and outcomes.
Methods: A survey was carried out of patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration, their providers, and clinic staff in 77 clinics across 24 countries on six continents, from a diverse range of healthcare systems, settings, and reimbursement models.

Introduction: In contrast with patients receiving therapy for retinal disease during clinical trials, those treated in routine clinical practice experience various challenges (including administrative, clinic, social, and patient-related factors) that can often result in high patient and clinic burden, and contribute to suboptimal visual outcomes. The objective of this study was to understand the challenges associated with clinical management of diabetic macular edema from the perspectives of patients, healthcare providers, and clinic staff, and identify opportunities to improve eye care for people with diabetes.
Methods: We conducted a survey of patients with diabetic macular edema, providers, and clinic staff in 78 clinics across 24 countries on six continents, representing a diverse range of individuals, healthcare systems, settings, and reimbursement models.

To our knowledge, no tool performs an objective quantitative evaluation of eye rubbing using a device that is familiar to typical patients. Methods: This study analyses the survey results of Swiss participants in the EBO examinations (2018-2022) and compared them with the most important cohorts (Germany, France and Spain).

Background/objectives: Evaluate the mid-term outcomes of the PAUL Glaucoma Implant (PGI) in the management of uveitic glaucoma.
Subjects/methods: This was a single-centre, multi-surgeon, retrospective analysis of 50 consecutive cases of PGI for uveitic glaucoma performed between April 2019 and August 2021. Primary outcomes include: complete and qualified success (IOP ≥5 mmHg to ≤21 mmHg with ≥20% IOP reduction) or failure (IOP exceeding the success criteria, additional glaucoma procedures, no perception of light vision).

Aim And Background: To describe a novel and uncomplicated technique of elongating the tubing of a glaucoma drainage device (GDD) sourced from a segment of the tube from a Paul® Glaucoma Implant (PGI).
Surgical Technique: Conjunctival and Tenon's peritomy are performed with relaxing incisions to expose the original tube. The original tube is then removed from the anterior chamber, and the original entry site is closed.

Care pathways for the management of acute ophthalmic conditions have developed and transformed significantly over recent years, owing to a combination of legislative changes, policy implementation and the pressing requirement to redistribute increased demand away from traditional secondary care providers through collaboration with primary care. Following UK healthcare devolution in 1999, each nation has developed and implemented their own strategies for managing the growing demands on acute ophthalmology services. Local commissioning across England has seen Enhanced Service Pathways develop to provide acute eye care by primary care optometrists, with provision and access dependent upon locality.

Background/aims: To elicit the preferences and calculate the willingness to pay (WTP) of patients with ocular hypertension (OHT) for eye monitoring services in the UK.
Methods: Patients with OHT aged at least 18 years recruited from four NHS ophthalmology departments were included in the study. Patients' preferences and WTP for an OHT monitoring service in the National Health Service were elicited using a discrete choice experiment (DCE) within a postal survey based on six attributes: (1) how OHT monitoring is organised, (2) monitoring frequency, (3) travel time from home, (4) use of a risk calculator for conversion to glaucoma, (5) risk of developing glaucoma in the next 10 years and (6) cost of monitoring.

To inform potential developments in eyecare, General Ophthalmic Service (GOS) sight-testing activity was explored in relation to deprivation for GOS contractors submitting National Health Service (NHS) claims in England.
Methods: Data on NHS sight-test claims for the financial year 2022-2023 were sought from NHS England (NHSE), including number of sight-tests by GOS contractors, their unique Organisation Data Service codes and postcodes and age-bands of patients accessing sight-testing.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the direct impact on carbon emissions attributed to the use of fluorinated gases in endothelial keratoplasty (EK) procedures using gas tamponade and to evaluate the respective carbon footprint of different gas delivery systems used in EK procedures.
Methods: In this retrospective, single-center environmental impact study, all corneal procedures using fluorinated gases between January 2021 and January 2024 at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital were reviewed and included. The CO2 equivalent emissions were calculated based on the mass of each fluorinated gas used, following the guidelines of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
