Pain and knee stiffness are common problems following total knee replacement surgery, with 10-20% of patients reporting dissatisfaction following their procedure. A remote assessment of knee stiffness could improve outcomes through continuous monitoring, facilitating timely intervention. Using machine learning algorithms, computer vision can extract joint angles from video footage, offering a method to monitor knee range of motion in patients' homes.

Studies focusing on the kinematics of the ankle joint complex (AJC) have long been a key area of interest for biomechanists and orthopedic surgeons. However, it is not clear how additional weight-bearing walking affects the motion of the AJC compared to walking with a normal body weight (BW) or what adjustments the AJC would instinctively make to accommodate the additional load. The micro-machining scale effect makes it challenging to forecast and control the process parameters of the micro-milling process, which makes the micro-flanking-milling of weak-rigidity micro-thin-walled parts prone to deformation. To determine the critical cutting parameters for chip formation in the micro-milling of curved thin-walled parts at the mesoscale, the strain-softening effect of titanium alloy during high-speed milling and the scale effect of mesoscale cutting were comprehensively considered and a finite element prediction model for curved micro-thin-wall micro-milling was established to determine the critical milling parameters for effective material removal. Based on the determined milling parameters, an experimental design of response surface optimization was carried out.

5-(hydroxymethyl)furfural (HMF) is a key biomass derived platform chemical used to produce fuel precursors or additives and value-added chemicals, synthesised by the cascade isomerisation of glucose and subsequent dehydration of reactively formed fructose to HMF over Lewis and Bronsted acid catalysts, respectively. Zirconia is a promising catalyst for such reactions; however, the impact of acid properties of different zirconia phases is poorly understood.
