Background: Silicone breast implants with smooth outer shells are associated with higher rates of capsular contracture, whereas textured implants have been linked to the development of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma. By assessing the gene expression profile of fibrous capsules formed in response to smooth and textured implants, insight into the development of breast implant-associated abnormalities can be gained.
Methods: Miniature smooth or textured silicone implants were surgically inserted into female rats ( n = 10) and harvested for the surrounding capsules at postoperative week 6.

Trypanosomiases are neglected tropical diseases caused by Trypanosoma (sub)species. Available treatments are limited and have considerable adverse effects and questionable efficacy in the chronic stage of the disease, urgently calling for the identification of new targets and drug candidates. Post-translational modifications by ubiquitin-like proteins (UBLs) are essential for nearly all cellular processes. Ubiquitin-related modifier 1 (Urm1) is a unique UBL, which plays a key role in tRNA anticodon thiolation as a sulfur carrier protein (SCP) and is linked to the noncanonical E1 enzyme Uba4 (ubiquitin-like protein activator 4). While Urm1 has also been observed to conjugate to target proteins like other UBLs, the molecular mechanism of its attachment remains unknown.

Trypanosomiases are life-threatening infections of humans and livestock, and novel effective therapeutic approaches are needed. Trypanosoma compartmentalize glycolysis into specialized organelles termed glycosomes. Most of the trypanosomal glycolytic enzymes harbor a peroxisomal targeting signal-1 (PTS1) which is recognized by the soluble receptor PEX5 to facilitate docking and translocation of the cargo into the glycosomal lumen.

Phycobiliproteins (PBPs) of cyanobacteria and algae possess unique light harvesting capacity which expand the photosynthetically active region (PAR) and allow them to thrive in extreme niches where higher plants cannot. PBPs of cyanobacteria/algae vary in abundance, types, amino acid composition and in structure as a function of species and the habitat that they grow in. In the present review, the key aspects of structure, stability, and spectral properties of PBPs, and their correlation with ecological niche of cyanobacteria are discussed.

This work describes the traditional wet and green synthetic approaches, structural features, and extensive bioactivity study for a new coordination polymer [Ag(-PTA)(Df)(HO)]·3HO () that bears a silver(I) center, a 1,3,5-triaza-phosphaadamantane (PTA) linker, and a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, diclofenac (Df). Compared to cisplatin, compound exhibits both anti-inflammatory properties and very remarkable cytotoxicity toward various cancer cell lines with a high value of selectivity index. Recent studies showed that SARS-CoV-2 can infect adult human pancreas and trigger pancreatic damage. Here, using human fetal pancreas samples and 3D differentiation of human pluripotent cells into pancreatic endocrine cells, we determined that SARS-CoV-2 receptors ACE2, TMPRSS2, and NRP1 are expressed in precursors of insulin-producing pancreatic β-cells, rendering them permissive to SARS-CoV-2 infection. We also show that SARS-CoV-2 enters and undergoes efficient replication in human multipotent pancreatic and endocrine progenitors .
