The damaged organ may experience severe pathological alterations as a result of tissue ischemia-reperfusion (I/R). The study of stem cell-based repair therapies is actively being conducted, and the outcomes and therapeutic potential of these cells are both promising. Autophagy checks protein homeostasis by breaking down huge damaged proteins or organelles.

The COVID-19 pandemic has posed significant threats to human life and health. Numerous studies have shown that men are more vulnerable to this infection, and recent evidence suggests that the presence of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors in male reproductive tissues may particularly predispose them to viral infection. Therefore, it is crucial to assess the potential impact of COVID-19 infection on male fertility.

Purpose: Although 18 F-FDG-PET/CT is helpful in defining many types of cancer, localized prostate cancer should not be treated with this technique. This study describes the use of multi-parametric MRI (mpMRI) to characterize incidental 18 F-FDG uptake in the prostate.
Methods And Materials: While 18 F-FDG-PET/CT is useful for characterizing a variety of cancers, it is not advised for prostate cancer that is localized.

Background: Vasoepididymostomy (VE) is an important surgical treatment to achieve natural conception for patients with obstructive azoospermia (OA), and only unilateral VE can be performed under certain conditions, such as OA patients with congenital unilateral absence of the vas deferens (CUAVD) and some acquired OA. There is a lack of relevant reports assessing the clinical outcomes of unilateral VE in OA patients with different causes. This study is aimed to describe the clinical features and evaluate treatments and outcomes of unilateral single-armed VE in OA patients.

Background: The mechanisms enabling sperm to locate unfertilized eggs within the fallopian tubes remain a subject of debate in reproductive biology. Previous studies using polytocous mammals observed a 1:1 sperm-egg ratio within the ampulla at the time of fertilization. From these observations, it is hypothesized that this mechanism could be linked to sperm-egg fusion, such that unfertilized eggs may attract sperm until fusion occurs, whereupon the attraction ceases.

This study aims to evaluate the ultrasonographic features associated with testicular infarction, determine the diagnostic effectiveness of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in assessing the testicular vascular system, and investigate the etiological factors contributing to testicular infarction. A retrospective analysis was performed involving 12 patients with confirmed testicular infarction. Each participant underwent standard superficial ultrasound examinations, followed by CEUS.

Purpose: Management of giant inguinoscrotal hernia (GIH) is still a challenging procedure associated with a higher risk of intraabdominal hypertension and abdominal compartment syndrome as a life-threatening condition. The aim of the study was to present our management strategy for GIH.
Methods: This is a retrospective review of a case series including 24 consecutive patients with 25 GIH who underwent reconstructive surgery from January 2006 to June 2023, at the University Clinic for Digestive Surgery and Hernia Center Zuvela.
Background: Imaging plays an important role in the identification of prostate cancer (PCa). However, a shortcoming of the current imaging techniques is their inability to detect PCa at an early stage of development when tumor volume is small. This led us to explore new and improved imaging methods.

Background: Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), a type of assisted reproductive technology (ART), is offered as a treatment option for male factor infertility. Over the years, the indications for ICSI have been expanded, despite uncertainty about its benefits and harms compared to the conventional method of achieving fertilisation. Artificial oocyte activation (AOA), which can be performed by chemical, electrical or mechanical intervention, has been employed during ART ICSI treatment where there has been a history of low fertilization rate or total fertilization failure, and it has been reported to improve reproductive outcomes.

Mammalian spermatogenesis is a tightly controlled cellular process including spermatogonial development and differentiation, meiosis of spermatocyte, and the morphological specification of haploid spermatozoa, during which the post-transcriptional gene regulations are vital but poorly understood. Nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD), a highly conserved post-transcriptional regulatory mechanism of gene expression in eukaryotes, recently emerges as a licensing mechanism in cell fate transition, including stem cell differentiation and organogenesis. The function of NMD in spermatogonial development remains elusive.

Sperm DNA contains strand breaks and base damage that can potentially affect reproductive health. This study aims to determine to what extent sperm DNA integrity and alkylation is associated with semen quality and assisted reproduction technology (ART) treatment outcomes, in particular fertilisation and cleavage rates. Male partners of couples attending for infertility treatment were recruited.

Background: Reproductive effects of chronic exposure to nickel (Ni), including sperm quality, have been a matter of debate given that published studies yielded contrasting results. We have, therefore, planned to systematically search and analyze medical literature with the aim to ascertain the association of exposure to nickel with the sperm quality in humans.
Materials And Methods: We systematically searched Pubmed, Scopus and Embase for studies reporting the association of Ni with the sperm quality in humans with no time or language limits and used PRISMA to report the findings.

Purpose: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus behind the COVID-19 pandemic, affects multiple organs, including the male reproductive system. While viral infections can harm male fertility through cytokine storms, the effects of SARS-CoV-2 on fertility are still unclear. Thus, this study aimed to examine the persistence of viral RNA and inflammatory responses in semen following SARS-CoV-2 infection and the safety of conventional freezing and vitrification techniques.

Unlabelled: Honey bees are the third most economically important agricultural animal in the world due to their role as pollinators. Honey bee pollination services and all hive duties are performed by female workers, while the male drones have one job to mate and share their genetics with a virgin queen from another colony. Thus, drone fitness is directly tied to queen success and colony survival, yet they have been severely understudied compared to their female counterparts.

Penile abnormalities in cheetahs () are rare but can present significant challenges to both captive and wild populations. This is the first report of penile abnormalities in cheetahs, and results from the screening of 549 male individuals from 1994 to 2023. Four cases of penile abnormalities were identified and included three types of penile abnormalities: one case of frenulum persistence, one case of paraphimosis, and two cases of penile-preputial adherence.

Two of the most important environmental factors that affect the sperm competitive ability in males are the availability of resources and the socio-sexual environment. Numerous studies have investigated the individual effects of these factors, but their combined effect on the evolution of sperm competitive ability remains untested. A crowded larval environment is unique because it simultaneously affects the fitness of the organism through both resource availability and the socio-sexual environment.

The establishment and maintenance of spermatogenesis is a complex process involving a vast of regulatory pathways. There is growing evidence revealing that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNA) play important roles in regulating testicular development and spermatogenesis in a stage-specific way. However, our understanding of how lncRNA regulates testicular development and spermatogenesis in black goats is quite limited.
