Handlebar problems are common among serious bicyclists. Compression neuropathy, more commonly ulnar than median, is frequent but seldom produces permanent injury or deficit if promptly recognized and managed by attending to bicycle fit, energy-absorbing gloves and handlebar treatments, and cycling technique. Overuse symptoms may be seen if bicycle design and fit couple with repetitive motion to aggravate wrist tendons or connective tissues of the neck and shoulder.

Umbilical cord blood pH and Apgar scores as an index of neonatal health.

In an effort to determine the clinical usefulness of Apgar scoring and cord pH in neonatal management, specimens of umbilical cord blood were obtained after 257 of 329 consecutive deliveries at a community-based hospital. A notable number of babies who were born in a vigorous state were in fact acidotic (umbilical arterial pH greater than 1 SD below mean). Seventy-two percent of acidotic babies had an Apgar score greater than 7 at 1 minute, and 92% had an Apgar score greater than 7 at 5 minutes.

The electrical properties of the cancer cell are useful parameters associated with neoplastic pathophysiological events. Although transmembrane potentials may not serve as inherent tumour markers in many instances, electrophysiological properties are, indeed, very useful in the investigation of malignant cellular proliferation, the influence of malignant disease on normal cell physiology and chemical carcinogenic events and possibly as an in vivo measurement in the cancer patient.
