Objective: We developed fiducial imaging-guidance markers for the prostate with less imaging artifacts than currently commercially available markers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the imaging artifacts and potential usefulness and safety of these novel fiducial imaging markers in preclinical experiments.

Methods: We selected specific metal materials and a shape that can minimize artifacts in line with a license we obtained for a metal with a gold-platinum (Au-Pt) alloy composition that maximized artifact-free MRI images.

The objective of this study is to compare the efficacy of apalutamide and bicalutamide in combination with androgen deprivation therapy in patients with metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC). We retrospectively collected the data of about 330 patients with metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer at our hospital and affiliated hospitals between December 2013 and August 2023. Sixty-one patients were administered apalutamide (240 mg/day) with androgen deprivation therapy (group A), and 269 patients were administered bicalutamide (80 mg/day) with androgen deprivation therapy (group B).

Improved artificial intelligence discrimination of minor histological populations by supplementing with color-adjusted images.

Sci Rep

Division of Molecular Pathology, Department of Pathological Sciences, University of Fukui, 23-3 Matsuoka-Shimoaizuki, Eiheiji, Fukui, 910-1193, Japan.

Despite the dedicated research of artificial intelligence (AI) for pathological images, the construction of AI applicable to histopathological tissue subtypes, is limited by insufficient dataset collection owing to disease infrequency. Here, we present a solution involving the addition of supplemental tissue array (TA) images that are adjusted to the tonality of the main data using a cycle-consistent generative adversarial network (CycleGAN) to the training data for rare tissue types. F1 scores of rare tissue types that constitute < 1.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate whether "visiting restrictions" implemented due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic are a risk factor for postpartum depression using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS).

Methods: This case-control study participants who gave birth during the spread of COVID-19 (COVID-19 study group) and before the spread of COVID-19 (control group). Participants completed the EPDS at 2 weeks and 1 month after childbirth.

BACKGROUND Spontaneous hemoperitoneum in pregnancy (SHiP), defined as nontraumatic, acute intra-abdominal bleeding during pregnancy or the postpartum period, is a serious life-threatening complication to mother and child. Endometriosis is a major risk factor for SHiP. This study presents the case of a 41-year-old woman with adenomyosis who developed hemoperitoneum due to endometriosis at 28 weeks of pregnancy.

Article Synopsis
  • - Psittacosis is a disease caused by the bacteria Chlamydia psittaci, typically leading to respiratory issues, but can have severe effects during pregnancy, known as gestational psittacosis.
  • - In a case study, a pregnant woman exhibited no respiratory symptoms; instead, severe placentitis was discovered during a postmortem examination, highlighting the placenta as the main site of infection.
  • - The presence of chlamydial DNA was significantly higher in the placenta compared to the lungs, suggesting that gestational psittacosis should be considered in pregnant women with unexplained fevers, even without respiratory symptoms.

Purpose: Non-contrast magnetic resonanse angiography (MRA) using the three-dimensional electrocardiogram-synchronized fast spin echo method uses systolic and diastolic arterial signal differences. The method relies on the flow void signal of the arterial flow because of dephasing during systole. However, depiction of slow flow such as that in a calf artery was degraded because of insufficient dephasing during systole.

Article Synopsis
  • Minimizing contrast volume is crucial in preventing contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with severe renal dysfunction.
  • A 70-year-old man with severe renal dysfunction and three-vessel heart disease underwent three PCI procedures using a total of only 31 mL of contrast medium, achieving complete revascularization without CIN.
  • The strategy included hydration with saline, the use of microcatheter injections, and intravascular ultrasound, showing a successful approach for similar high-risk patients.

Development of acute lymphoblastic leukemia with IgH-EPOR in a patient with secondary erythrocytosis.

Int J Hematol

December 2016

Department of Pediatrics, Graduate School of Medical Science, Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, 465 Kajii-cho, Hirokoji, Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto, 602-8566, Japan.

We report the first patient to develop ALL with a fusion gene of the erythropoietin receptor (EPOR) with immunoglobulin heavy chain (IgH) 22 years after a diagnosis of secondary erythrocytosis with unknown etiology. The IgH-EPOR rearrangement is known to induce increased expression of EPOR, and activates EPO-associated signal pathways by exogenous EPO stimulation, resulting in the increased proliferation and survival of IgH-EPOR-positive leukemic cells. Interestingly, this case may provide supporting the possibility that IgH-EPOR-positive ALL has a growth advantage under sustained high concentrations of EPO.

Relation of antiplatelet therapy (APT) discontinuation with the risk of serious cardiovascular events has not been fully addressed yet. This study is aimed to evaluate the risk of ischemic event after APT discontinuation based on long-term APT status of large cohort. In the CREDO-Kyoto Registry Cohort-2 enrolling 15939 consecutive patients undergoing first coronary revascularization, 10470 patients underwent percutaneous coronary intervention either with bare-metal stents (BMS) only (N=5392) or sirolimus-eluting stents (SES) only (N=5078).

In the Coronary REvascularization Demonstrating Outcome Study in Kyoto registry cohort-2, a total of 1,057 patients with AF (8.3%) were identified among 12,716 patients undergoing first PCI.

Background: Late adverse events such as very late stent thrombosis (VLST) or late target-lesion revascularization (TLR) after first-generation sirolimus-eluting stents (SES) implantation have not been yet fully characterized at long term in comparison with those after bare-metal stent (BMS) implantation.

Methods And Results: Among 13 058 consecutive patients undergoing first percutaneous coronary intervention in the Coronary REvascularization Demonstrating Outcome study-Kyoto registry Cohort-2, 5078 patients were treated with SES only, and 5392 patients were treated with BMS only. During 7-year follow-up, VLST and late TLR beyond 1 year after SES implantation occurred constantly and without attenuation at 0.

April 2009

Department of Pharmacy, Maizuru Kyosai Hospital, Federation of National Public Services and Affiliated Mutual Associations, Japan.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the neurologic side effects associated with serum aprindine concentrations and the safety range of aprindine for the prevention of neurologic side effects in 142 Japanese inpatients. Serum aprindine concentrations were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography. A poor positive correlation was observed between dose and serum aprindine concentration (r(2)=0.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the anticholinergic side effects associated with disopyramide (DP) and serum DP or mono-N-dealkyldisopyramide (MND) concentrations and the safety range of DP or MND for prevention of anticholinergic side effects in 141 inpatients. The serum DP and MND concentrations were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography. No correlation was observed between creatinine clearance (Ccr) and the ratio of the serum concentration to the dose (C/D) of DP, but a significant inverse correlation was observed between Ccr and the C/D of MND.

Negative product value for coronary artery disease is 98% to 99%. Therefore, the number of unnecessary cardiac catheterization procedures is reduced as the usefulness of CT systems for examination of the coronary arteries improves. In the bolus-tracking method, in which an ROI is placed in the ascending aorta to trigger scanning, scanning may not be performed at the optimal time of contrast enhancement depending on the patient.
