In recent years, low-density polyethylene (LDPE) has emerged as an essential component of the routine tasks that people engage in on a daily basis. However, over use of it resulted in environmental buildup that contaminated aquatic habitats and human health. Biodegradation is the most effective way for controlling pollution caused by synthetic plastic waste in a sustainable manner.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, a prominent family of persistent organic molecules produced by both anthropogenic and natural processes, are widespread in terrestrial and aquatic environments owing to their hydrophobicity, electrochemical stability and low aqueous solubility. Phenanthrene and naphthalene belong to the group of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons whose occurrence are reported to be relatively higher. The bioremediation mode of removing the toxicities of these two compounds has been reported to be promising than other methods.

Bioremediation of heavy metals and dyes is one of the emerging techniques globally as it is evident from the numerous publications made by various research groups. Biofilm-assisted bioremediation is one of the trending approaches as it facilitates negatively charged extracellular polymeric substances which makes the bacteria resistant to the toxic chemicals. Genetic engineering of microbes will make them unique in the bioremediation process.

Human corona viral infection leads to acute breathing disease and death if not diagnosed and treated properly in time. The disease can be treated with the help of simple natural compounds, which we use in day-to-day life. These natural compounds act against several diseases but their drug targeting mechanism needs to be improved for more efficient and promising applications.

Decolorization of safranin was investigated using Fissidens species in a batch system under optimized conditions. The decolorization efficiency was improved by optimizing the conditions such as initial pH (3-9), temperature (25-45 °C), initial dye concentration (10-50 mg/L), biosorbent dosage (100-500 mg/L) and contact time (1-6 days). Maximum decolorization (95%) was recorded at initial pH of 6 with dye concentration of 20 mg/L, biosorbent dosage of 200 mg/L at 30 °C and contact time of 2 days.
