Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how well Doppler sonography can identify metastatic lymph nodes in oral cancer patients by analyzing nodal vascularity.
  • A total of 55 patients with oral cancer and enlarged lymph nodes underwent Doppler ultrasonography and fine needle aspiration to determine the characteristics of these nodes.
  • Results indicated that specific Doppler patterns, especially peripheral blood flow and a high resistive index, were strongly linked to malignant lymph nodes, suggesting that Doppler sonography can help differentiate between benign and malignant conditions and reduce unnecessary biopsies.

Ann Med Health Sci Res

March 2014

Department of E.C.H.S., Phagwara, Punjab, India.

Ameloblastoma is usually considered a homogenous neoplasm and is thought of as the most primitive of all odontogenic neoplasms. However, detailed investigations have proven clinicopathological diversity in a significant number of cases, thus mounting the evidence in favor of considering ameloblastoma as a mysterious lesion. The purpose of this article is to report a unique case of desmoplastic ameloblastoma and to throw light on the atypical changes noticed in the stromal component.

The most commonly used laboratory diagnostic procedures for lipid profile involve analysis of cellular and chemical constituents of blood/plasma. As a diagnostic aid, saliva offers many advantages over serum.

The diagnosis of any pathology is fundamentally based on the microscopic structure of cells and tissues and this remains as the standard by which all other diagnostic tests are measured. In this era, the pathologists are relying on the examination of tissue section stained by histochemical means and it is supported by the advanced immunological, biochemical and molecular techniques. This review will provide the information about one of the way that can be followed to unravel the molecular mechanism in spotting the disease process.

Oral melanoacanthoma of a rare intraoral site: case report and review of literature.

Int J Clin Pediatr Dent

January 2013

Ex-Senior Lecturer, Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Puducherry India.

Oral melanoacanthoma is rare pigmented mucosal lesion that presents most commonly on the buccal mucosa, characterized by sudden appearance and rapid radial growth, thus clinically mimicking malignant melanoma. It was originally described as a mixed tumor of melanocytes and keratinocytes, but appears to be a reactive process; formed in areas prone to trauma, and regressing after the removal of trauma or incomplete excision. The clinical appearance of oral melanoacanthoma is nondiagnostic, and biopsy is mandatory to rule out malignancy.

Purpose: The fear of excessive bleeding often prompts the physician to stop long-term, low-dose antiplatelet therapy before any surgical procedure. This may put the patient at risk of an adverse thromboembolic event. We undertook an assessment of the incidence of prolonged postoperative bleeding after dental extractions among patients on uninterrupted antiplatelet therapy, and evaluated the need to stop such medications before dental extractions.
