Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS), Saveetha University, Chennai, India.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined the relationship between dental anxiety in children and their ABO blood group, considering the potential genetic influence on personality traits related to anxiety.
  • - Eighty children participated, with their blood group information obtained from parents, and their dental anxiety was assessed using a specific scale and pulse oximeter.
  • - Results showed no significant correlation between dental anxiety levels and ABO blood types, suggesting that blood group does not predict anxiety in pediatric dental settings.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the impact of various chelating agents on calcium loss in root canal dentin using 65 single-rooted teeth samples prepared in a controlled manner.
  • Five groups of chelating agents were compared: liquid EDTA, EDTA with chlorhexidine, etidronic acid, SmearClear, and a control with distilled water to assess their effectiveness in decalcifying dentin.
  • Results showed that SmearClear was notably more effective in decalcifying dentin compared to the other agents, suggesting a potential recommendation for its use in endodontic treatments to enhance smear layer removal while preserving tooth strength.

Background: Metal oxide nanoparticle-reinforced polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) has been shown to improve mechanical properties, such as strength. Different types of metal oxide nanoparticles have been used previously, but the comparative effect on the strength of heat-cured denture base resins remains unclear.

Objective: This is a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis that will aim to pool evidence to compare and analyze the effects of the addition of different metal oxide nanoparticles, with varied sizes and concentrations, on the strength (flexural, impact, transverse, compressive tensile strength, and fracture toughness) of heat-cured PMMA.

Aim: The aim of our pilot study is to analyze the relationship between dental caries and albumin and calcium levels in serum and saliva in adolescent patients with varying caries experience as determined by their caries progression between the age-group of 9 and 19 years.

Materials And Methods: A total of 20 subjects were selected based on their level of caries progression and divided into four groups of subjects, five in each as follows: group I-enamel caries, group II-dentinal caries, group III-pulpal caries, and group IV-control group. The saliva and serum were collected under standardized conditions from selected patients and analyzed for the presence of albumin and calcium, and then they were correlated to the same level in serum.

Purpose: The idea of psychological ownership (PO) has been utilized in a variety of contexts, but the significance and lessons learned from using PO in dental clinical education have not been investigated. A detailed long-term study of PO in dental clinical education will allow us to understand the effectiveness of this practice. The purpose of this paper is to compare undergraduate (UG) student's clinical performance before and after the PO system was implemented.

Androgenic alopecia is a common and major cause of progressive hair loss. Hair loss can be prevented by administrating concentrated growth factor concentrate (GFC) into the scalp where the person's own growth factors are effectively delivered deep within the layers of the scalp, promoting optimal results. This prospective study includes five patients with androgenic alopecia.

Dental photography is now an excellent tool that plays a crucial role in dentistry as it helps in documenting and analyzing the oral conditions of patients. Photography provides a visual representation of the teeth, gums, and other oral structures, which aids in diagnosis, treatment planning, and monitoring the progress of treatment. Therefore, it is essential for dental professionals to understand the importance of dental photography and incorporate photography it into regular practice.

Dental radiography is widely used in dental practices and offers a valuable resource for the development of AI technology. Consequently, many researchers have been drawn to explore its application in different areas. The current systematic review was undertaken to critically appraise developments and performance of artificial intelligence (AI) models designed for tooth numbering and detection using dento-maxillofacial radiographic images.

In the current odontological era, carious lesions are removed while tooth tissue is preserved. Most of these ideals are met by chemomechanical caries removal (CMCR) methods, which are easy and comfortable to use, differentiate and eliminate infected tissues, minimize pressure, vibration and heat, and are cost-effective. This study examines the efficacy of commercially available CMCR agents, namely Papacarie®, Carie-Care™ and BRIX3000™, and a conventional hand instrumentation method for caries removal in deciduous molars in terms of time consumption, ease of application, and pain perception.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of p120 catenin in the development and progression of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinomas (OSCC) by comparing its expression in OSCC tissues and adjacent apparently normal mucosa (ANMAOSCC).
  • Results showed that over 80% of OSCC cases expressed p120, while all ANMAOSCC samples maintained expression, highlighting a significant difference in the cellular localization of p120 between the two groups.
  • The atypical staining pattern of p120 in OSCC suggests a loss of cell adhesion and may serve as a potential biomarker for assessing the malignant potential of these tumors.

Twin Block, a functional orthodontic appliance, has a major impact on the dentoalveolar structures with limited skeletal effects. In specific clinical scenarios, particularly in growing patients such as class II division 1 where the mandible is retropositioned, these appliances can effectively address the malocclusions. Patient compliance plays a crucial role in the success of these appliances, which also streamline subsequent phases of fixed appliance treatment.

Bone augmentation in dental implants among Indian patients.

Bioinformation

December 2023

Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Narsinbhai Patel Dental college and Hospital, Sankalchand Patel University, Visnagar, Gujarat, India.

It is of interest to compare guided bone regeneration (GBR) with titanium mesh, alveolar distraction osteo-genesis (DO), GBR with auto-genous bone and e-PTFE membranes and onlay bone grafts. This helps to restore vertically lacking alveolar ridges and their capacity to sustain the vertical bone growth acquired both prior to and following implant placement. The parameters such as (i) success and survival of dental implants (ii) peri-implant clinical parameters after prosthetic loading at 1 year, 2 year and 3 year follow up (iii) resorption of alveolar ridge regenerated before placement of dental implants and after placement of dental implants were assessed.

Introduction: Apexification procedure with Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and Biodentine as apical plugs along with the incorporation of medicaments such as silver zeolite, chlorhexidine, and triple antibiotic powder (TAP) is a new area of research that is gradually gaining momentum in dentistry.

Aim: The study aimed to evaluate and compare the calcium released from the apical plugs formed by MTA and Biodentine with and without incorporation of 2% TAP and 2% modified triple antibiotic powder (mTAP).

Materials And Methods: Ninety single-rooted teeth were randomly divided ( = 15) into two experimental groups with three subgroups (n = 5) each based on the composition of apical plugs (4 mm) as follows: Group A: Biodentine - Subgroup 1: Biodentine, Subgroup 2: Biodentine + 2% TAP, and Subgroup 3: Biodentine + 2% modified TAP and Group B: MTA - Subgroup 1: MTA, Subgroup 2: MTA + 2% TAP, and Subgroup 3: MTA + 2% modified TAP.
