Cardiovascular disease (CVD) related mortality and morbidity heavily strain society. The relationship between external risk factors and our genetics have not been well established. It is widely acknowledged that environmental influence and individual behaviours play a significant role in CVD vulnerability, leading to the development of polygenic risk scores (PRS).

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is challenging to diagnose and treat since symptoms appear late during the progression of atherosclerosis. alone are not always sufficient to properly categorize at-risk patients, and are inadequate in predicting cardiac events. Integrating (GBBM) found in plasma/serum samples with novel non-invasive (RBBM) such as plaque area, plaque burden, and maximum plaque height can improve composite CVD risk prediction in the pharmaceutical paradigm.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the effects of microwave heating on fresh jaggery cubes, using treatment times of 30 seconds and 45 seconds.
  • The moisture content of treated jaggery was slightly reduced, remaining within safe consumption levels, while the iron content was largely unaffected.
  • The most notable result was a significant reduction in microbial counts, with the 45-second treatment notably lowering total plate count and yeast/mold count, making it the most effective treatment.

With the popularity of 3D-printing technology, poly(lactic acid) (PLA) has become a very good option for layer by layer printing as it is easy to handle, environment friendly, has low costs and most importantly, it is highly adaptable to different materials including carbon, nylon and some other fibres. PLA is an aliphatic poly-ester that is 100% bio-based and is bio-degradable as well. It is one of the rare bio-polymers to compete with traditional polymers in terms of performance and environmental impact.

Electronic address:

Electrochemists and ecological engineers find environmental bioelectrochemistry appealing; however, there is a big gap between expectations and actual progress in bioelectrochemical system (BES). Implementing such technology opens new opportunities for novel electrochemical reactions for resource recovery and effective wastewater treatment. Loopholes of BES exist in its scaling-up applications, and numerous attempts toward practical applications (200, 1000, and 1500 L) are key successive indicators toward its commercialization.

A Review on Biodegradable Packaging Films from Vegetative and Food Waste.

Chem Rec

July 2022

Department of Chemistry, College of Science, King Saud University, Riyadh 11451, Saudi Arabia.

Plastics around the globe have been a matter of grave concern due to the unavoidable habits of human mankind. Taking waste statistics in India for the year 2019-20 into account, the data of 60 major cities show that the generation of plastic waste stands tall at around 26,000 tonnes/day, of which only about 60 % is recycled. A majority of the non-recycled plastic waste is petrochemical-based packaging materials that are non-biodegradable in nature.

Metabolites

August 2021

Precision Medicine Translational Research Programme and Department of Biochemistry, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, Singapore 119077, Singapore.

Lipid mediators, small molecules involved in regulating inflammation and its resolution, are a class of lipids of wide interest as their levels in blood and tissues may be used to monitor health and disease states or the effect of new treatments. These molecules are present at low levels in biological samples, and an enrichment step is often needed for their detection. We describe a rapid and selective method that uses new low-cost molecularly imprinted (MIP) and non-imprinted (NIP) polymeric sorbents for the extraction of lipid mediators from plasma and tissue samples.
