Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on the effectiveness of propofol versus dexmedetomidine in reducing emergence delirium (ED) in pediatric patients after anesthesia, finding a wide incidence range (2% to 80%).
  • Eighty children aged 2-6 undergoing short surgeries were treated with either propofol or dexmedetomidine before surgery, with ED assessed using specific scales afterward.
  • Results showed a significantly lower ED rate in the dexmedetomidine group (2.5% vs. 70%), along with reduced postoperative pain, indicating that dexmedetomidine is more effective than propofol for these patients.

Alzheimer's Disease (AD), a prevalent neurodegenerative disorder, poses a significant global health challenge with complicated pathogenesis. Pathological characteristics of AD include increasing loss of cholinergic neurons, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and amyloid beta accumulation. Due to the limited availability of effective therapeutic options with only symptomatic relief and their severe adverse effects, there is a significant need to search and explore new agents for the management of AD.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most prevalent form of sustained cardiac arrhythmia, with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) increasingly recognized for its potential role in the pathogenesis of AF through mechanisms involving atrial remodeling, inflammation, and fibrosis. This systematic review aims to synthesize available evidence on the association between VEGF and AF, exploring the implications of VEGF as a biomarker and therapeutic target.

Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search across PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science until November 10 2024, selecting studies based on pre-defined criteria that involve adults with AF and measurements of VEGF levels.

Design, synthesis, in vitro, and in silico studies of 4-fluorocinnamaldehyde based thiosemicarbazones as urease inhibitors.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, College of Engineering, Korea University, Seoul, 02841, Republic of Korea.

Clinically significant problems such as kidney stones and stomach ulcers are linked to the activation of the urease enzyme. At low pH, this enzyme gives an ideal environment to Helicobacter pylori in the stomach which is the cause of gastric ulcers and peptic ulcers. In recent work, we have developed a library of 4-fluorocinnamaldehyde base thiosemicarbazones and assessed them for their potential against urease enzyme.
