Introduction: Osseointegration stands as a pivotal concept within the realm of dental implants, signifying the intricate process through which a dental implant integrates with the adjoining bone tissue. Graphene oxide (GO) has been shown to promote osseointegration, the process by which the implant fuses with the surrounding bone. The objective of this study was to assess the osseointegrative and antimicrobial properties of GO nano coated dental implants.

Exploring the Complexities: Understanding the Clinicopathological Spectrum of Tuberculosis in the Head-and-neck Region.

Int J Mycobacteriol

April 2024

Department of oral Pathology and Microbiology, Saraswati Dhanwantari Dental College and Hospital, Post Graduate Research Institute, Parbhani, Maharashtra, India.

Article Synopsis
  • Tuberculosis (TB) in the head-and-neck area can mimic cancer symptoms, resulting in misdiagnosis and delays in treatment, making awareness crucial for early detection.
  • The study reviewed cases from 30 patients treated between 2018 and 2024, primarily involving young individuals aged 15-24, with cervical tubercular adenitis being the most common lesion.
  • The findings suggest that healthcare providers need to consider TB in differential diagnoses due to its varied presentations, which can easily be confused with other conditions.

Introduction:  Epilepsy is caused by dysfunction in the brain, which is characterized by an enduring disposition for unprovoked seizures that reoccur often, along with the neurological, cognitive, psychological, and social effects of the condition, which are often managed with prolonged and sometimes lifelong medications that involve antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). To confirm the diagnosis of epilepsy, at least two unprovoked seizures occurring greater than 24 hours apart should be reported. This illness affects both children and adults.

Oral cancer is becoming more common, and it threatens to be a serious worldwide medical issue. Hence, it is of interest to elucidate the networks between proteins and biologically active compounds, as well as their functional annotations, and cell signaling pathways. The online STRING software was used to create a molecular genetics interaction network named AZURIN on oral bacterial proteins.

The intended target site to engage a fixture distal into the tuberosity is the pterygoid apophysis that comprises the maxillary tuberosity, pyramidal process of the palatine bone, and the pterygoid process of the sphenoid bone. Pterygoid implants are incorrectly labeled in literature owing to the fact that they are actually root form conventional implants and should hence be termed as 'tubero-pterygoid implant'. An implant engaging the pterygoid apophysis/pillar taking distal maxillary support and avoiding successfully the cantilever situation is called a pterygoid implant.

Introduction Dental caries is a chronic, infectious, and irreversible disease of the calcified tissues of teeth, which demineralises the inorganic portion and destroys the organic substance of the tooth, which often leads to cavitation. Epidemiological studies measuring the prevalence and severity of dental caries have used modified versions of Klein and colleagues' decayed, missing, and filled (DMF) or Gruebbel's decayed, extraction indicated, and filled (def) indexes; however, these indexes only capture cavitated lesions. Saliva plays a vital role in caries prevention; significant reduction or deterioration of salivary function can aggravate the development of dental caries.

Presenting to our knowledge, for the first time in literature, a case report on the long term follow-up of an implant retained fixed prosthesis on free fibular reconstruction with a single piece zygomatic implant and single piece bicortical implant via a flapless approach and immediate functional rehabilitation. The technique involved the concept of "Remote Bone Anchorage" in conjunction with the union of grafted free fibula flap with the native mandible. It was facilitated with a single piece zygomatic implant engaged in the mandible and splinted with single piece implants on the grafted fibula as needed for prosthetic functional reconstruction.
