Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in multiple databases to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that investigated combination therapy for ROP. The PRISMA guidelines were followed.

Scheimpflug Tomography as a Predictor of Corneal Edema After Phacoemulsification in Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy.

Purpose: To determine if Scheimpflug tomography pachymetry map and posterior elevation map patterns can predict the occurrence of corneal edema following uneventful phacoemulsification surgery in Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD).

Design: Observational prospective case-control study.

Participants: Fifty FECD eyes (50 patients) with visually significant cataract: 25 with subclinical corneal edema (SCE) versus 25 without SCE.

Artificial Neural Network for Automated Keratoconus Detection Using a Combined Placido Disc and Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography Topographer.

Purpose: To assess the efficacy of an automated program for keratoconus and keratoconus suspect detection based on corneal measurements provided by a combined Placido disc and anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT) topographer.

Methods: In a multicentric cross-sectional study, an artificial neural network (ANN) was created using 6677 eyes from an equal number of patients (classified as 2663 normal eyes, 1616 keratoconus eyes, 210 keratoconus suspect eyes, 1519 myopic postoperative eyes, and 669 abnormal eyes). Each group was randomly divided into a training set (70% of the dataset) and a validation set (the remaining 30%).

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the quality of life (QOL) improvement in evaporative dry eye patients after treatment with intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy compared to punctal plug insertion.

Comparison of a new implantable collamer lens formula to standards formulas using spectral domain optical coherence tomography.

Purpose: To use spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) data to develop a new implantable collamer lens (ICL) sizing formula and compare vault outcomes with the Online Calculation and Ordering System™ (OCOS) and the NK2 formula.

Methods: Consecutive eyes (n = 237) were evaluated that had undergone ICL/toric ICL implantation. Actual ICL vaults were measured, and a what-if analysis was performed to predict vault values with the NK2 formula using SD-OCT data.

Background: Macular hole (MH) is a full-thickness defect in the central portion of the retina that causes loss of central vision. According to the usual definition, a large MH has a diameter greater than 400 µm at the narrowest point. Transepithelial corneal crosslinking with oxygen enhancement and pulsed light for progressive ectasia: one-year results.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of transepithelial accelerated crosslinking (TE-ACXL) using pulsed light and supplemental oxygen.

Methods: Thirty eyes of 30 consecutive patients with progressive keratoconus or post-LASIK ectasia were enrolled in a prospective non-comparative study conducted at the Magrabi Eye Center (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia). All eyes underwent TE-ACXL with supplemental oxygen.

Twist Technique to Stop Fluid Leakage and Fixate the Eye During Bimanual Cortex Removal in Phacoemulsification.

Leakage of fluid through the side port during aspiration of the cortex leads to instability of the anterior chamber. In addition, eye movement may cause an unintended pulling of the irrigation probe out of the corneal wound resulting in collapsing of the anterior chamber. Both situations could pose a challenge to the surgeon and increase the risk of serious intraoperative complications.

Comparison between intravitreal ranibizumab injection and posterior subtenon triamcinolone acetonide injection at time of cataract surgery for prevention of progression of diabetic macular edema.

Background: The goal of this work is to assess progression of diabetic macular edema (DME) following intravitreal ranibizumab injection compared to subtenon triamcinolone acetonide injection at cataract operation.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of 73 eyes of 65 participant with DME, with central macular thickness (CMT) ≥ 300 μm. The included eyes were separated into three groups; phacoemulsification with intravitreal Ranibizumab injection group, phacoemulsification with subtenon Triamcinolone acetonide injection group and phacoemulsification only group.

Endophthalmitis Secondary to Occult Intraocular Eyelashes Following Perforating Gunshot Injury: A Case Report.

Purpose: This is a retrospective case report in which we describe our findings in two cases of endophthalmitis associated with perforating gunshot injury, in which we documented intraocular intrusion of multiple eyelashes as a plausible source of infection.

Patients And Methods: Two male patients, 22 and 29 years old, respectively, presented with endophthalmitis following primary repair of rupture globe secondary to gunshot injury. Both patients had vitrectomy and silicone oil injection.

Unprompted Closure of Spontaneous Macular Hole Secondary to Retained Subfoveal Perfluorocarbon Liquid.

Purpose: To report unprompted closure of spontaneous macular hole secondary to inadvertent subfoveal perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL) after vitrectomy surgery. . We present a case of a retained large single subfoveal PFCL droplet following vitrectomy and silicone oil injection for subtotal rhegmatogenous retinal detachment that showed spontaneous release 3 weeks postoperatively, with subsequent development of full thickness macular hole (FTMH) which completely closed later on after silicone oil removal without internal limiting membrane peeling with marvelous anatomic and visual improvement after spontaneous closure of MH.

[Contribution of Optical Coherence Tomography in the evaluation of the iridocorneal angle in Cameroon].

Introduction: Our work was aimed at determining the sensitivity and specificity of anterior segment OCT (AS-OCT) in the evaluation of the iridocorneal angle (ICA) in Cameroon.

Methodology: We conducted a cross-sectional, analytical study from January 2 to June 30, 2019 in Yaoundé. One hundred and twenty five patients over 35 years of age underwent three-mirror manual glass gonioscopy and AS-OCT.

The Role of Automated Peripheral Iridectomy Combined with Phacoemulsification and Mini Ex-PRESS Shunt Implantation in Patients with Chronic Angle Closure Glaucoma.

Purpose: To evaluate the role of automated peripheral iridectomy as an adjunctive tool combined with phacoemulsification and ExPRESS shunt implantation in management of cases with chronic angle closure glaucoma.

Setting: Magrabi eye hospital.

Methods: This prospective study included 22 eyes of 22 patients with chronic angle closure glaucoma and cataract who underwent Ex-PRESS shunt implantation, cataract extraction and surgical peripheral iridectomy at the site of shunt implantation in the period between January 2018 and April 2020.

Background: Waiting time can considerably increase the cost to both the clinic and the patient and be a major predictor of the satisfaction of eye care users. Efficient management of waiting time remains as a challenge in hospitals. Waiting time management will become even more crucial in the postpandemic era.

Management of Diabetic Macular Edema: Guidelines from the Emirates Society of Ophthalmology.

In the United Arab Emirates, retinopathy has been shown to be present in 19% of the diabetic population, with diabetes identified in up to 40% of individuals aged over 55 years. Despite the prevalence of diabetic retinal diseases, there are no unified national guidelines on the management of diabetic macular edema (DME). These published guidelines are based on evidence taken from the literature and published trials of therapies, and consensus opinion of a representative expert panel with an interest in this condition, convened by the Emirates Society of Ophthalmology.

Keratoconus detected by corneal topography in patients seeking refractive surgery in Jazan region, Saudi Arabia: A retrospective cross-sectional study.

Background: Keratoconus is a non-inflammatory, chronic, idiopathic, corneal disease characterized by thinning of the core or paracentral part of the cornea. In this study, we demonstrate the prevalence of keratoconus among patients seeking refractive surgery using laser vision correction (LVC) at the Department of Ophthalmology, Private Eye Center, Jazan, Saudi Arabia.

Bicanalicular Annular Stent Compared with Bicanalicular Nasal Intubation in Management of Traumatic Lower Canalicular Laceration.

The study included consecutive patients suffering from traumatic lower canalicular laceration attended to ophthalmology department causality at Al Azhar University hospital Damietta branch, between December 2018 and August 2020.

Perioperative Anxiolytic and Analgesic Effects of Pregabalin in Vitreo-Retinal Surgery: A Randomized, Double-blind Study.

Objectives: This study was done to examine the effect of a single, one-time pregabalin dose on postoperative pain, anxiety, and analgesic consumption after vitrectomy performed under the peribulbar block and to assess the satisfaction of the patients as well as the surgeons.

Methods: This randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial was conducted at Magrabi Eye, ENT and Dental Center, Doha, Qatar on 58 adult patients aged 37 - 75 years, who met status I and II of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and scheduled for elective vitrectomy, under the peribulbar block (PB). Of the total participants, 30 cases were randomized to receive pregabalin, while the remaining received placebo 90 minutes before surgery.

A comparative study between ciclosporine A eye drop (2%) and tacrolimus eye ointment (0.03%) in management of children with refractory vernal keratoconjunctivitis.

Purpose: To compare the effects of ciclosporine A (2%) eye drop and tacrolimus (0.03%) eye ointment on children with vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) who were not responding to corticosteroid eye drops.

Methods: A prospective comparative study was carried out on children who were diagnosed with refractory VKC at the ophthalmology clinic in Benha University, Delta area, Egypt, during the period from October 2019 to February 2020.
