(1) Background: Imageless computer navigation systems have the potential to improve the accuracy of acetabular cup position in total hip arthroplasty (THA). Popular imageless navigation methods include locating the patient in a three-dimensional space (registration method) while using a baseline to angle the acetabular cup (reference plane). This study aims to compare the accuracy of different methods for determining postoperative acetabular cup positioning in THA via the direct anterior approach.

Streptococci, Lactococci and Enterococci all produce L-rhamnose-containing cell wall polysaccharides which define Lancefield serotypes and represent promising candidates for the design of glycoconjugate vaccines. The L-rhamnose containing Enterococcal Polysaccharide Antigen (EPA), produced by the opportunistic pathogen Enterococcus faecalis, plays a critical role in normal growth, division, biofilm formation, antimicrobial resistance, phage susceptibility, and innate immune evasion. Despite the critical role of this polymer in E.

Background: The field of artificial intelligence (AI)-based patient-specific quality assurance (PSQA) for volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) faces challenges in terms of developing general models across institutions due to the prevalence of multi-institution data collection and multivariate heterogeneity. Building a general model that is capable of handling diverse multi-institution data is critical for enabling large-scale integration and analysis.
Purpose: This study aims to develop a star generative adversarial network (StarGAN) and transformer-based hybrid classification-regression PSQA framework to address unification of heterogeneous data from different institutions.

Objectives: The study aimed to investigate the interaction of intraoperative stress hyperglycemia with monocyte functions and their impact on major adverse events (MAEs) in acute aortic dissection (AAD) patients who underwent open repair surgery.
Methods: A total of 321 adults who underwent open surgery for AAD at two tertiary medical centers in China were enrolled in the study. The primary endpoint was defined as the incidence and characteristics of perioperative stress hyperglycemia.

Background: B-cell activating factor (BAFF) and A proliferation-inducing ligand (APRIL) play key roles in the pathogenesis of IgA nephropathy. Atacicept is a novel fully humanized fusion protein, self-administered at home by subcutaneous injection, that binds and inhibits BAFF and APRIL. By inhibiting BAFF and APRIL, atacicept targets the underlying B-cell–mediated pathogenesis driving disease progression.

Background: The alternative complement pathway plays a key role in the pathogenesis of IgA nephropathy. Iptacopan specifically binds to factor B and inhibits the alternative pathway.
Methods: In this phase 3, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial, we enrolled adults with biopsy-confirmed IgA nephropathy and proteinuria (defined as a 24-hour urinary protein-to-creatinine ratio of ≥1 [with protein and creatinine both measured in grams]) despite optimized supportive therapy.

Background: Hypothermia and antegrade cerebral perfusion (ACP) strategies in open aortic arch surgery (AAS) have improved significantly. The significance of the gradual temperature rise to mild hypothermia is quite apparent, however, its safety remains a challenge. Therefore, our objective was to explore the safety and efficacy of mild hypothermic circulatory arrest (Mi-HCA, ≥30 ℃).

Radiographic landmark annotation determines patients' anatomical parameters and influences diagnoses. However, challenges arise from ambiguous region-based definitions, human error, and image quality variations, potentially compromising patient care. Additionally, AI landmark localization often presents its predictions in a probability-based heatmap format, which lacks a corresponding clinical standard for accuracy validation.

Unlabelled: A multi-feature fusion DCNN model for automated evaluation of lumbar vertebrae L1 on chest combined with clinical information and radiomics permits estimation of volumetric bone mineral density for evaluation of osteoporosis.
Purpose: To develop a multi-feature deep learning model based on chest CT, combined with clinical information and radiomics to explore the feasibility in screening for osteoporosis based on estimation of volumetric bone mineral density.
Methods: The chest CT images of 1048 health check subjects were retrospectively collected as the master dataset, and the images of 637 subjects obtained from a different CT scanner were used for the external validation cohort.

Positron emission tomography (PET) using radiolabeled prostate-specific membrane antigen targeting PET-imaging agents has been increasingly used over the past decade for imaging and directing prostate carcinoma treatment. Here, we summarize the available literature data on radiomics and machine learning using these imaging agents in prostate carcinoma. Gleason scores derived from biopsy and after resection are discordant in a large number of prostate carcinoma patients.

Background: Renal quantitative measurements are important descriptors for assessing kidney function. We developed a deep learning-based method for automated kidney measurements from computed tomography (CT) images.
Methods: The study datasets comprised potential kidney donors (n = 88), both contrast-enhanced (Dataset 1 CE) and noncontrast (Dataset 1 NC) CT scans, and test sets of contrast-enhanced cases (Test set 2, n = 18), cases from a photon-counting (PC)CT scanner reconstructed at 60 and 190 keV (Test set 3 PCCT, n = 15), and low-dose cases (Test set 4, n = 8), which were retrospectively analyzed to train, validate, and test two networks for kidney segmentation and subsequent measurements.

Aims: To explore the incidence and factors influencing medication administration errors (MAEs) among nurses.
Background: Medication administration is a global concern for patient safety. Few studies have assessed the incidence of MAEs or explored factors that considered the interplay between behaviour, the individual and the environment.

Background: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection poses a significant risk to immunosuppressed transplant recipients, manifesting through primary infection, reinfection, or reactivation.
Methods: We analyzed the emergence of drug resistance in CMV infection in 3 patients who were later found to have received an allograft from a shared, deceased donor. The seronegative transplant recipients developed symptomatic CMV infections after bowel/pancreas, kidney, or lung transplantation.

The pathophysiology of amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment (aMCI) is largely unknown, although some papers found signs of immune activation. To assess the cytokine network in aMCI after excluding patients with major depression (MDD) and to examine the immune profiles of quantitative aMCI (qMCI) and distress symptoms of old age (DSOA) scores. A case-control study was conducted on 61 Thai aMCI participants and 60 healthy old adults (both without MDD).

Chronic low back pain is one of the most frequent reasons for medical consultation. It is important to make the correct diagnosis to select the most appropriate treatment in a stepwise approach. In this narrative review, we focus on the clinical examination, the diagnosis, and the conservative treatment of chronic non-specific low back pain.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) targeting PD-(L)1 and CTLA-4 have revolutionized the systemic treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), achieving impressive results. However, long-term clinical benefits are only seen in a minority of patients. Extensive research is being conducted on novel potential immune checkpoints and the mechanisms underlying ICI resistance.
