Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease [MASLD] is a pervasive multifactorial health burden. Post-translational modifications [PTMs] of amino acid residues in protein domains demonstrate pivotal roles for imparting dynamic alterations in the cellular micro milieu. The crux of identifying novel druggable targets relies on comprehensively studying the etiology of metabolic disorders.

Bone tissue exhibits self-healing properties; however, not all defects can be repaired without surgical intervention. Bone tissue engineering offers artificial scaffolds, which can act as a temporary matrix for bone regeneration. The aim of this study was to manufacture scaffolds made of poly(lactic acid), poly(ε-caprolactone), poly(propylene fumarate), and poly(ethylene glycol) modified with bioglass, beta tricalcium phosphate (TCP), and/or wollastonite (W) particles.

Control of a bioprocess is a challenging task mainly due to the nonlinearity of the process, the complex nature of microorganisms, and variations in critical parameters such as temperature, pH, and agitator speed. Generally, the optimum values chosen for critical parameters during Escherichia coli (E.coli) K-12fed-batch fermentation are37 C for temperature, 7 for pH, and 35 % for Dissolved Oxygen (DO).

Materials based on highly reactive α-tricalcium phosphate (α-TCP) powder were developed and evaluated. Furthermore, the impact of different polymeric additives, such as citrus pectin or polyacrylamide (PAAM) modified with sago starch, neem flower, or rambutan peel, on the physiochemical and biological properties of the developed materials was assessed. The addition of modified PAAM shortened the setting process of bone cements and decreased their compressive strength.

The use of alternative fuels in diesel engines has become more widespread due to a number of factors, including dwindling petroleum supplies, increasing prices for conventional fossil fuels, and environmental worries about pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions from internal combustion engines. Efficiency and emissions need to be appropriately balanced. Alcohols act as oxygenated fuels similar to octanol, offering a number of benefits over traditional fuels and can boost efficiency, enhance combustion, and reduce air pollution.

Estimation of Surface Roughness on Milled Surface Using Capacitance Sensor Based Micro Gantry System through Single-Shot Approach.

Micromachines (Basel)

October 2022

Department of Production Technology, Madras Institute of Technology Campus, Anna University, Chennai 600044, Tamil Nadu, India.

The profile generation is highly complex for roughness measurement using a capacitive sensor because of the small peak-to-peak width of the machined surface and the close proximity of the sensor setting with the machining setup which has the chance of damaging the sensor. Considering these shortcomings, a higher sensor sensing diameter with an appropriate resolution has been selected for a single-shot approach. An automated micro gantry XYZ system is integrated with a capacitive sensor to precisely target, move, and measure the roughness.

In this study, aluminum alloy (Al7075) composites with a 4% weight fraction of tungsten carbide (WC) were manufactured using a stir casting process and the developed composites were subjected to various ageing temperatures. An attempt has been made to predict the age-hardening temperature with the enhanced mechanical and wear properties of Al7075-WC. The result shows that the composite specimen aged at 250 °C offered maximum tensile strength and the Brinell hardness number was increased by 37.

Fluorescence Nano Particle Detection in a Liquid Sample Using the Smartphone for Biomedical Application.

J Fluoresc

January 2022

Department of Instrumentation Engineering, Madras Institute of Technology Campus, Anna University, Chennai, India.

In this paper, we present a Smartphone-based Fluorescence Nanoparticle Detector (SPF-NPD) that can be used for identifying biological agents in biomedical applications. The experimental setup consists of an LED light source and an Eppendorf tube holder placed inside a dark chamber with an optimally located slit for aligning the camera of a smartphone. The camera acquires the fluorescence intensity variations in the target liquid sample placed in the Eppendorf tube and passes it to a dedicated android application running in the smartphone.

Thalidomide causes teratogenic effects in several animal species and in humans. Accordingly, the World Health Organization banned thalidomide when mothers who took thalidomide during pregnancy delivered abnormal fetuses. After four decades, thalidomide underwent drug "re-purposing" since its antiangiogenic and immunomodulatory effects were therapeutic for multiple myeloma.

Topographic characterization of (Zr, Mn) co-doped bismuth ferrite thin film surfaces.

Microsc Res Tech

October 2021

Department of Physics, Madras Institute of Technology Campus, Anna University, Chennai, India.

The present work focuses on the investigations on the optical and morphological characteristics of (Zr, Mn) co-doped Bismuth ferrite thin films. Undoped Bismuth ferrite (BiFeO ) and (Zr, Mn) co-doped Bismuth ferrite (ZMBFO) thin films were spin-coated on Pt/TiO /Ti/SiO /Si substrate. X-ray diffraction (XRD) was utilized to confirm the rhombohedral structure and the Scherrer formula was used to calculate the crystallite size of the films.

Background: Several countries adopted lockdown to slowdown the exponential transmission of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) epidemic. Disease transmission models and the epidemic forecasts at the national level steer the policy to implement appropriate intervention strategies and budgeting. However, it is critical to design a data-driven reliable model for nowcasting for smaller populations, in particular metro cities.

Department of Instrumentation Engineering, Madras Institute of Technology Campus, Anna University, Chennai-44, India. Electronic address:

In this work, the authors have designed and implemented predictor-corrector approach based control schemes for a single input-single output nonlinear system. The controller output is computed in two steps. The first step explicitly uses a non-linear model or multiple-linear models weighted using fuzzy membership function to compute the value of the controller output.

In this study, the effect of injection pressure on combustion, performance, and emission characteristics of a diesel engine powered with turbulence inducer piston was studied. Engine tests were executed using conventional diesel and 20% blend of adelfa biodiesel [A20]. The results acquired from renewable fuel A20 in the conventional engine showed reduction in brake thermal efficiency being the result of poor air fuel mixing characteristics and the higher viscosity of the tested fuel.

Modeling and control of non-square MIMO system using relay feedback.

ISA Trans

November 2015

Department of Instrumentation Engineering, Madras Institute of Technology Campus, Anna University, Chennai 44, India.

This paper proposes a systematic approach for the modeling and control of non-square MIMO systems in time domain using relay feedback. Conventionally, modeling, selection of the control configuration and controller design of non-square MIMO systems are performed using input/output information of direct loop, while the output of undesired responses that bears valuable information on interaction among the loops are not considered. However, in this paper, the undesired response obtained from relay feedback test is also taken into consideration to extract the information about the interaction between the loops.

September 2015

Department of Instrumentation Engineering, Madras Institute of Technology Campus, Anna University, Chennai 600044, India. Electronic address:

In this work, state estimation schemes for non-linear hybrid dynamic systems subjected to stochastic state disturbances and random errors in measurements using interacting multiple-model (IMM) algorithms are formulated. In order to compute both discrete modes and continuous state estimates of a hybrid dynamic system either an IMM extended Kalman filter (IMM-EKF) or an IMM based derivative-free Kalman filters is proposed in this study. The efficacy of the proposed IMM based state estimation schemes is demonstrated by conducting Monte-Carlo simulation studies on the two-tank hybrid system and switched non-isothermal continuous stirred tank reactor system.
