Accumulating evidence suggests that galectin-3 is a histologic marker of thyroid cancer. However, the pharmacological lectin-based approach has not been well studied. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the therapeutic potential of novel galectin-3 inhibitors by treating thyroid cancer cells with different concentrations of GB1107 or TD139.

Background Human 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (HSD3B1) is an enzyme associated with steroidogenesis, however its' role in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) biology is unknown. Trilostane is an inhibitor of HSD3B1 and has been tested as a treatment for patients with breast cancer but has not been studied in patients with HCC. Methods and Results The expression of HSD3B1 in HCC tumors in 57 patients were examined.

Purpose: We performed an E-survey to evaluate the practice patterns in debulking surgery for advanced ovarian cancer in Asia.

Methods: We designed a questionnaire, including 50 questions related to debulking surgery for advanced ovarian cancer. The questionnaire was sent to Gynecologic Oncologic Groups in Asia from December 2016 to February 2017.

Objective: Gastric antral vascular ectasia (GAVE) and portal hypertensive gastropathy (PHG) can cause gastrointestinal bleeding in cirrhotic patients. Distinguishing diffuse-type GAVE and severe PHG is important but difficult by conventional endoscopy and endoscopic biopsy. The aim of this study is to evaluate the value of magnifying endoscopy with narrow-band image for diagnosing diffuse-type GAVE in cirrhotic patients.

Background: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) use is associated with hypergastrinemia and gut microbiota alteration. Concern over the risk that these factors may increase chances of colorectal cancer (CRC) has risen. To investigate the association between PPIs use and CRC using a large population-based cohort and examine whether the PPIs may differ regarding the risk of CRC.

Prognostic Impact of Histopathologic Features in Pulmonary Invasive Mucinous Adenocarcinomas.

Objectives: The prognostic significance of pathologic features and invasive size has not been well studied for invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (IMA). This study evaluates the significance of pathologic features and invasive size in relation to clinical outcome.

Methods: We reviewed the pathologic features in 84 IMAs, including histologic pattern, nuclear atypia, mitosis, necrosis, and lymphovascular invasion.

Association between subjective symptoms and obesity and postoperative recurrence in differentiated thyroid cancer: a matched-pair analysis.

Several patients with thyroid cancer experience symptom distress after diagnosis and surgery. Data on the association between symptomatology and disease recurrence are limited. A retrospective review of a prospectively maintained database was performed, and 57 patients who had recurrence after operation of differentiated thyroid cancer were identified.

In recent decades, the decellularized extracellular matrix (ECM) has shown potential as a promising scaffold for tissue regeneration. In this study, an organic acid decellularized lymph node (dLN) was developed as a carrier for dendritic cells (DCs) to induce antitumor immunity. The dLNs were prepared by formic acid, acetic acid, or citric acid treatment.

Osteocalcin is an Independent Predictor for Hungry Bone Syndrome After Parathyroidectomy.

Background: Hungry bone syndrome is characterized by prolonged and severe hypocalcemia following parathyroidectomy. Previously, we reported that preoperative alkaline phosphatase is a major factor predicting prolonged hospital stay. Nonetheless, some patients with low alkaline phosphatase levels presented with hungry bone syndrome, suggesting that additional factors may play a role.

The pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) plays an important role in the biosynthesis of ribonucleotide precursor and NADPH. Cancer cells frequently increase the flux of glucose into the PPP to support the anabolic demands and regulate oxidative stress. Consistently, metabolomic analyses indicate an upregulation of the PPP in thyroid cancer.
