J Intellect Disabil Res

May 2022

Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition, University of Guelph, MacDonald Institute, Guelph, Ontario, Canada.

Background: Trisomy 21 or Down Syndrome (DS) is associated with altered methylation pathways. Children with DS may therefore represent a population subgroup with vulnerability to increased exposures to folic acid, which is involved in one-carbon metabolism. Folic acid (FA) fortification of flour and maternal FA supplementation are intended to reduce neural tube defects related to folate deficiency.

Hydrogeochemical mineral exploration in deeply weathered terrains: An example from Mumbwa, Zambia.

Sci Total Environ

March 2022

Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering, Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario K7L 3N6, Canada.

Locating mineral deposits in areas of thick or transported overburden is notoriously difficult. Post-mineral cover is prevalent in many parts of the globe and has led to prospective geological sequences being missed by traditional methods of exploration. Hydrogeochemistry is particularly applicable for the exploration of Iron Oxide Copper Gold (IOCG) deposits because, when compared to larger porphyry or sediment-hosted systems, IOCG deposits tend to be smaller and high-grade with a limited lateral footprint to intersect with grid-drilling; groundwater interactions and ion dispersion tend to produce a much larger anomaly target than regolith geochemistry alone and require fewer samples.

Are fathers' and mothers' food parenting practices differentially associated with children's eating behaviors?

Appetite

November 2021

School of Population and Public Health, University of British Columbia, BC Children's Hospital Research Institute, F508-4490 Oak Street, Vancouver, BC V6H 3V4, Canada. Electronic address:

Little is known about how fathers' food parenting practices (FPP) are linked with children's eating behaviors and whether these associations differ from mothers. This study examined associations between paternal and maternal FPP and eating behaviors among children aged 5-12 years. A sample of 565 parents (53% fathers) completed: 1) the FPP item bank, which measured 11 FPP constructs from three domains of parenting (control, autonomy promotion, and structure) and 2) the Children's Eating Behavior Questionnaire (CEBQ), to assess four constructs (emotional overeating, food responsiveness, satiety responsiveness and food fussiness).

Genital self-image is an emerging aspect of body image relevant to sexual functioning and sexual satisfaction. The aims of the present study were to (1) examine the association between body image and genital self-image with a broad range of sexuality-related outcomes; (2) explore whether genital self-image is a more salient influence on sexual satisfaction and functioning than body image and (3) determine whether this would hold true for both men and women. The analytic sample (6,228 cis-gendered, heterosexual men and women between the ages of 18 and 40) was recruited from reddit.

Background: This paper examines school and classroom effects on Daily Physical Activity (DPA) policy implementation in classrooms in Ontario, Canada. In 2005 the Ontario Ministry of Education mandated a policy requiring school boards to "ensure that all elementary students, including students with special needs, have a minimum of twenty minutes of sustained MVPA each school day during instructional time". Based on an adaptation of Chaudoir's conceptual framework, this paper contributes to understanding the extent to which school factors (as reported by administrators) and classroom factors (as reported by teachers) are associated with policy implementation fidelity at the classroom level.

The Impact of Attachment Style on Sexual Satisfaction and Sexual Desire in a Sexually Diverse Sample.

J Sex Marital Ther

March 2019

c Family Relations & Applied Nutrition, AAMFT clinician in private practice, Macdonald Institute, Winnipeg , Manitoba , Canada.

Research has indicated that adult romantic attachment is influential and important to sexual and relationship satisfaction. Sexual desire, although not a direct focus of attachment literature, is highly related to sexual and relationship satisfaction, suggesting it may also be impacted by attachment style in romantic couples. However, the research conducted on sexual desire, sexual satisfaction, and attachment has been largely heterocentric, making it difficult to determine whether the findings documented in the literature thus far are relevant in a sexually diverse group of individuals.

Evaluation of caregiver-friendly workplace policy (CFWPs) interventions on the health of full-time caregiver employees (CEs): implementation and cost-benefit analysis.

BMC Public Health

September 2017

Department of Human Resources and Management DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University, 405, 1280 Main Street West, Hamilton, ON, L8S 4M4, Canada.

Background: Current Canadian evidence illustrating the health benefits and cost-effectiveness of caregiver-friendly workplace policies is needed if Canadian employers are to adopt and integrate caregiver-friendly workplace policies into their employment practices. The goal of this three-year, three study research project is to provide such evidence for the auto manufacturing and educational services sectors. The research questions being addressed are: What are the impacts for employers (economic) and workers (health) of caregiver-friendly workplace policy intervention(s) for full-time caregiver-employees? What are the impacts for employers, workers and society of the caregiver-friendly workplace policy intervention(s) in each participating workplace? What contextual factors impact the successful implementation of caregiver-friendly workplace policy intervention(s)?

Methods: Using a pre-post-test comparative case study design, Study A will determine the effectiveness of newly implemented caregiver-friendly workplace policy intervention(s) across two workplaces to determine impacts on caregiver-employee health.

Sexual Motives in Heterosexual Women With and Without Sexual Difficulties.

J Sex Marital Ther

February 2017

a Family Relations and Applied Nutrition, Macdonald Institute, University of Guelph, Guelph , Ontario , Canada.

Previous research indicates that women with sexual problems may have different reasons for engaging in sex than women who are not experiencing sexual problems. The current study investigated whether reasons for sex differed by women reporting high versus low overall sexual functioning, as assessed by the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) (Rosen et al., 2000).

Benchmarking Global Food Safety Performances: The Era of Risk Intelligence.

J Food Prot

October 2015

The Conference Board of Canada, Centre for Food in Canada, 255 Smyth Road Ottawa, Ontario, Canada K1H 8M7; The University of Guelph, College of Business and Economics, MacDonald Institute Building, Guelph, Ontario, Canada N1G 2W1.

Food safety data segmentation and limitations hamper the world's ability to select, build up, monitor, and evaluate food safety performance. Currently, there is no metric that captures the entire food safety system, and performance data are not collected strategically on a global scale. Therefore, food safety benchmarking is essential not only to help monitor ongoing performance but also to inform continued food safety system design, adoption, and implementation toward more efficient and effective food safety preparedness, responsiveness, and accountability.
