Dental magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has long been perceived as overly complex, costly, and limited in availability. Despite the numerous advantages of this radiation-free, non-invasive procedure for soft tissue diagnostics in the head and neck region, its imaging capabilities for hard tissue, such as bones and teeth, have thus far remained limited in comparison to conventional X-ray technology. In recent years, however, technological advances have led to a notable enhancement in the image quality and the range of applications of dental MRI.

Budget impact analysis of cenobamate for epilepsy patients with drug-resistant focal onset seizures in the Netherlands.

Objective: The objective of this study was to explore the financial consequences of adopting cenobamate as a treatment alternative in epilepsy patients with drug-resistant focal onset seizures (FOS) from a societal perspective in the Netherlands.

Methods: A previous budget impact model with a 5-year time horizon was adapted to the Dutch setting accounting for the eligible population, real-world market shares, treatment effectiveness and resource use in two scenarios: cenobamate with constant market share versus cenobamate with linearly increased market share up to 20%. Clinical inputs included treatment response, seizure reduction and adverse events.

The aim of this narrative review is to summarize the studies that employed mouse xenograft models, using cell lines, patient-derived tumors, or organoids, in endometrial cancer (EC) research, detailing their methodology and main findings. We identified 27 articles reporting on heterotopic EC xenografts, including subcutaneous, subrenal capsule, intraperitoneal, and retro-orbital models, and 18 articles using orthotopic xenografts.

Introduction: To investigate 5-year outcomes on intraocular pressure (IOP) and safety of micropulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (TSCPC) in patients with glaucoma.

Methods: Patients with mild to advanced glaucoma who underwent a standardized micropulse TSCPC procedure at the University Eye Clinic Maastricht from November 2016 to February 2019 were included.

Results: A total of 165 eyes were included, with outcomes for 112 eyes available after 5-year follow-up.

Background: Stereotactic arrhythmia radioablation (STAR) is a promising non-invasive therapy for patients with ventricular tachycardia (VT). Accurate identification of the arrhythmogenic volume, or clinical target volume (CTV), on the radiotherapy (RT) 4D planning computed tomography (CT) scan is key for STAR efficacy and safety. This case report illustrates our workflow of electro-structural image integration for CTV delineation.

A foundation model for generalized brain MRI analysis.

Artificial intelligence (AI) applied to brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has the potential to improve disease diagnosis and management but requires algorithms with generalizable knowledge that can perform well in a variety of clinical scenarios. The field has been constrained, thus far, by limited training data and task-specific models that do not generalize well across patient populations and medical tasks. Foundation models, by leveraging self-supervised learning, pretraining, and targeted adaptation, present a promising paradigm to overcome these limitations.

Investigating the Roles and Impact of Clinical Competency Committees in Graduate Medical Education: A Narrative Review.

Although Clinical Competency Committees (CCCs) were implemented to facilitate the goals of competency-based medical education, implementation has been variable, and we do not know if and how these committees affected programs and assessment in graduate medical education (GME). To explore the roles CCCs fulfill in GME and their effect on trainees, faculty, and programs. We conducted a narrative review of CCC primary research with the following inclusion criteria: all articles must be research in nature, focused on GME and specifically studying CCCs, and published in English language journals from January 2013 to November 2022.

Design-related bias in studies investigating diagnostic tests for venous thromboembolic diseases: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Early detection and diagnosis of venous thromboembolism are vital for effective treatment. To what extent methodological shortcomings exist in studies of diagnostic tests and whether this affects published test performance is unknown.

Objectives: We aimed to assess the methodological quality of studies evaluating diagnostic tests for venous thromboembolic diseases and quantify the direction and impact of design characteristics on diagnostic performance.

Outcome of IWGT workshop on transcriptomic biomarkers for genotoxicity: Key considerations for bioinformatics.

As a part of the International Workshop on Genotoxicity Testing (IWGT) in 2022, a workgroup was formed to evaluate the level of validation and regulatory acceptance of transcriptomic biomarkers that identify genotoxic substances. Several such biomarkers have been developed using various molecular techniques and computational approaches. Within the IWGT workgroup on transcriptomic biomarkers, bioinformatics was a central topic of discussion, focusing on the current approaches used to process the underlying molecular data to distill a reliable predictive signal; that is, a gene set that is indicative of genotoxicity and can then be used in later studies to predict potential DNA damaging properties for uncharacterized chemicals.

Systematic Evaluation of Lower Urinary Tract Sensations to Improve Management of LUTS: ICI-RS 2024.

Aims: Lower urinary tract (LUT) sensations form an essential part of diagnostic criteria for many LUT symptoms, additionally LUT sensations are used to evaluate the effectivity of therapeutic interventions. The accurate measurement of LUT sensations, however, is severely hampered by the subjective nature of these sensations.

Methods: This paper summarizes the discussions from the 2024 meeting of the International Consultation for Incontinence-Research Society (ICI-RS 2024) regarding systematic evaluations of LUT sensations and the design of more objective tools to measure these.

Cost-effectiveness of a nurse-led sexual rehabilitation intervention for women treated with radiotherapy for gynaecological cancer in a randomized trial.

Purpose: To compare the cost-effectiveness of a nurse-led sexual rehabilitation intervention with standard care in women treated with external beam radiotherapy, with or without brachytherapy, for gynaecological cancers.

Methods: Eligible women were randomly assigned to the intervention (n = 112) or standard care (n = 117). Primary endpoint was sexual functioning at 12-months post-radiotherapy, assessed by the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI).

Background: There is wide variation in how faculty development (FD) is practiced globally and described in the literature. This scoping review aims to clarify how FD is conceptualised and practiced in health professions education.

Methodology: Using a systematic search strategy, 418 papers, published between 2015-2023, were included for full text review.

Deferral of routine percutaneous coronary intervention in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation: Rationale and design of the PRO-TAVI trial.

Background: Concomitant coronary artery disease (CAD) is highly prevalent in patients with severe aortic stenosis undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). The optimal treatment strategy for CAD is a topic of debate. An initial conservative strategy for CAD in patients undergoing TAVI may be favorable as multiple studies have failed to show an evident beneficial effect of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) on mortality after TAVI.
