Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is closely associated with many aspects of disturbed metabolic health. MASLD encompasses a wide spectrum of liver diseases, ranging from isolated steatosis to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), up to fibrosis, cirrhosis, and ultimately hepatocellular carcinoma. Limited noninvasive diagnostic tools are currently available to distinguish the various stages of MASLD and as such liver biopsy remains the gold standard for MASLD diagnostics.

Achieving optimal asthma control is crucial given the potentially negative long-term effects of bad asthma control on lung development and quality of life in young children. Exploring the association of metabolic factors and chronic musculoskeletal pain over a period of 10 years - the Doetinchem Cohort Study.

Objective: To examine (a) the association between metabolic factors and chronic musculoskeletal pain (CMP), (b) metabolic predictors of CMP 10 years later, and (c) the association and evolution of metabolic factors across different CMP trajectory groups.

Design: Data from the longitudinal Doetinchem Cohort Study were used. We used round 4 (2003-2007), with 4519 participants aged 36-75 years, as the baseline for the present study, with follow-up measurements in round 5 (2008-2012), and 6 (2013-2017), including self-reported pain and metabolic factors, which were measured either via self-report or physical assessment.

OPtimal TIming of antenatal COrticosteroid administration in pregnancies complicated by early-onset fetal growth REstriction: results of a large multicenter cohort study (the OPTICORE study).

Background: Early-onset fetal growth restriction as consequence of placental insufficiency frequently requires iatrogenic preterm birth. Administration of antenatal corticosteroids reduces risks of neonatal morbidity and mortality following preterm birth and is most beneficial if the neonate is delivered within 2 weeks following treatment. International guidelines on fetal growth restriction pregnancies do not provide directives regarding the timing of antenatal corticosteroids, resulting in practice variation.

GOLD COPD Exacerbation History Categories and Disease Outcomes.

Importance: Previous exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (ECOPD) are associated with future events. For more than a decade, patients at high risk have been defined as individuals with a history of 2 or more moderate ECOPD, 1 or more severe ECOPD, or both within 12 months, and treatments have been allocated accordingly, but these cutoffs lack validation.

Objectives: To validate ECOPD history categories by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) and explore alternative cutoffs to estimate moderate and severe ECOPD and all-cause mortality in COPD.

Introduction: Enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphoma (EATL) is a peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) with a poor prognosis. Cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (CHOP) with or without etoposide consolidated by autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) are recommended for fit PTCL patients. The role of etoposide and ASCT in EATL is unclear.

Background: Hearing loss (HL) and visual loss (VL) are recently identified as promising dementia risk factors, but long-term studies with adequate control of other modifiable dementia risk factors are lacking. This 25-year follow-up study investigated the association between objectively measured HL and VL with cognitive decline and incident dementia.

Methods: 1823 participants (age 24-82 years) of the Maastricht Aging Study were assessed at baseline, 6, 12 and 25 years.

Differentiating these tumors from comparatively less malignant chondrosarcomas is crucial for treatment and prognostication. Both tumor types differ in their developmental origin.

Doctor-patient communication is a core competency in medical education, which requires learners to adapt their communication flexibly to each clinical encounter. Although conceptual learning models exist, information about how skilled communication develops over time is scant. This study aims to unpack this process of communication learning and to identify its facilitators.

Implications of the choroid plexus in Niemann-Pick disease Type C neuropathogenesis.

Background: Niemann-Pick Disease Type C (NPC) is an ultra-rare disorder characterized by progressive psychiatric and neurologic manifestations, with late infantile, juvenile, and adolescent/adult presentations. We examined morphological properties of the choroid plexus, a protective blood-cerebrospinal fluid barrier, in NPC, and their relationship with neurodegeneration, clinical status, and circulatory markers. This study also determined whether choroid plexus morphology differentiates between NPC and more prevalent illnesses, schizophrenia (SZ) and bipolar disorder (BD), which have overlapping psychiatric symptoms with adolescent and adult-onset NPC and are associated with misdiagnosis.

Purpose: Knee joint distraction is a surgical procedure with cartilage-regenerating properties. The composition of joint distraction-regenerated cartilage in human patients is poorly documented. In this case-study, provided a unique opportunity to biomolecularly characterize the regenerated tissue from a patient who underwent bilateral distraction and later knee replacements.

Bleeding disorder of unknown cause: an illustrated review on current practice, knowledge gaps, and future perspectives.

In more than half of the individuals with a clinically relevant bleeding tendency who are referred to hemostasis experts, no biological etiology can be found after extensive laboratory testing. These persons are diagnosed with an unexplained bleeding tendency or "bleeding disorder of unknown cause" (BDUC). The mucocutaneous bleeding phenotype of individuals with BDUC is generally comparable to that of individuals with inherited bleeding disorders such as von Willebrand disease or platelet function disorders.

Dental magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has long been perceived as overly complex, costly, and limited in availability. Despite the numerous advantages of this radiation-free, non-invasive procedure for soft tissue diagnostics in the head and neck region, its imaging capabilities for hard tissue, such as bones and teeth, have thus far remained limited in comparison to conventional X-ray technology. In recent years, however, technological advances have led to a notable enhancement in the image quality and the range of applications of dental MRI.

Budget impact analysis of cenobamate for epilepsy patients with drug-resistant focal onset seizures in the Netherlands.

Objective: The objective of this study was to explore the financial consequences of adopting cenobamate as a treatment alternative in epilepsy patients with drug-resistant focal onset seizures (FOS) from a societal perspective in the Netherlands.

Methods: A previous budget impact model with a 5-year time horizon was adapted to the Dutch setting accounting for the eligible population, real-world market shares, treatment effectiveness and resource use in two scenarios: cenobamate with constant market share versus cenobamate with linearly increased market share up to 20%. Clinical inputs included treatment response, seizure reduction and adverse events.

Preoperative and Postoperative Arterial Adaptation in Patients with Acute Aortic Dissection.

Spinal cord ischemia is one of the most serious complications after an aortic repair. To date, there is no evidence for arterial changes during an aortic dissection or for the observation of such arteries after an aortic repair. The aim of this study was to compare spinal-cord-supplying arteries in patients with an acute aortic dissection, preoperatively and postoperatively, with patients without an acute aortic dissection.
