Arterial and venous thromboembolism are leading causes of morbidity and death worldwide. Despite significant advances in the diagnosis, prognostication, and treatment of thrombotic diseases over the past 3 decades, the adoption of findings stemming from translational biomarker research in clinical practice remains limited. Biomarkers provide an opportunity to enhance our understanding of pathophysiological processes and optimize treatment strategies.

Lymphatic Disorder Management in Pediatric Patients With Congenital Heart Disease in European Pediatric Cardiology Centers: Current Status, Disparities, and Future Considerations.

Background: Lymphatic disorders such as protein-losing enteropathy, plastic bronchitis, and chylothorax are important complications of the Fontan circulation and ultimately result in an increased risk of early death. Several European centers are now performing lymphatic procedures. The aim of this study is to map the extent of these lymphatic disorders and treatments provided across European pediatric cardiology centers.

A realist evaluation of the implementation of a national tobacco control program and policy in India.

There is a growing interest in studying and unpacking implementation of policies and programmes as it provides an opportunity to reduce the policy translation time lag taken for research findings to translate to policies and get implemented and understand why policies may fail. Realist evaluation is a theory-driven approach that embraces complexity and helps to identify the mechanisms generating the observed policy outcomes in given context. We aimed to study facilitators and barriers while implementing the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 (COTPA) a comprehensive national tobacco control policy, and the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), 2008 using realist evaluation.

Measuring the Burden of Infodemics: Summary of the Methods and Results of the Fifth WHO Infodemic Management Conference.

Background: An infodemic is excess information, including false or misleading information, that spreads in digital and physical environments during a public health emergency. The COVID-19 pandemic has been accompanied by an unprecedented global infodemic that has led to confusion about the benefits of medical and public health interventions, with substantial impact on risk-taking and health-seeking behaviors, eroding trust in health authorities and compromising the effectiveness of public health responses and policies. Standardized measures are needed to quantify the harmful impacts of the infodemic in a systematic and methodologically robust manner, as well as harmonizing highly divergent approaches currently explored for this purpose.

A long-standing debate amongst international relations scholars has surrounded the question of whether international institutions with judicial authority enjoy more autonomy and discretion than other global institutions. This is mainly because international courts are established as impartial third-party actors tasked with performing adjudicative functions for conflicting parties. As such, the delegation contracts of international institutions with judicial authority are expected to minimize control by states, even in cases where the members of a court engage in judicial overreach.

Exploitation of the ribosomal protein L10 R98S mutation to enhance recombinant protein production in mammalian cells.

Mammalian cells are commonly used to produce recombinant protein therapeutics, but suffer from a high cost per mg of protein produced. There is therefore great interest in improving protein yields to reduce production cost. We present an entirely novel approach to reach this goal through direct engineering of the cellular translation machinery by introducing the R98S point mutation in the catalytically essential ribosomal protein L10 (RPL10-R98S).

The Influence of the Genetic and Immunologic Context in the Development of Colorectal Adenoma: A Case Series Report.

Introduction: Overcoming immunosurveillance is a major step in the progression of many types of tumors. Several immune escape strategies have been identified, including immunoediting and the establishment of an immune suppressive microenvironment. The aim of the present study was to determine whether the hereditary or sporadic context has any influence in the relationship between immune surveillance and tumor development, using sporadic and familial adenomatous polyposis related colorectal adenomas as a model.

Trends in trigonal prismatic Ln-[1]ferrocenophane complexes and discovery of a Ho single-molecule magnet.

Lanthanide metallocenophanes are an intriguing class of organometallic complexes that feature rare six-coordinate trigonal prismatic coordination environments of 4f elements with close intramolecular proximity to transition metal ions. Herein, we present a systematic study of the structural and magnetic properties of the ferrocenophanes, [LnFc(THF)Li], of the late trivalent lanthanide ions (Ln = Gd (), Ho (), Er (), Tm (), Yb (), Lu ()). One major structural trend within this class of complexes is the increasing diferrocenyl (Fc) average twist angle with decreasing ionic radius ( ) of the central Ln ion, resulting in the largest average Fc twist angles for the Lu compound .

Repair of segmental rabbit radial defects with Cu/Zn co-doped calcium phosphate scaffolds incorporating GDF-5 carrier.

Repair of segmental bone defects is a challenge in orthopaedics. A bone substitute is a potential solution for this challenge, and angiogenesis and osteogenesis are critical to the performance of scaffold materials. For enhancing angiogenesis and osteogenesis activities of implanted scaffolds, Cu/Zn co-doped calcium phosphate scaffolds carrying GDF-5-release microspheres were prepared and implanted into surgically created critical-sized rabbit radial defects.

Twelve new and exciting Annonaceae from the Neotropics.

As a result of concerted efforts of the community of Annonaceae taxonomists, increasingly detailed knowledge of the diversity of the Neotropical genera has been documented. With the exception of just two large genera, and , all Neotropical Annonaceae have been revised within the last 25 years. Subsequent to these publications, many new specimens have been collected and sent to us in Leiden for identification.

[Needs for Care and Service Use in Dementia: Baseline Assessment of Portuguese Participants in the Actifcare Cohort Study].

Introduction: People with dementia and their relatives should have timely access to formal care in the community. The EU-Actifcare project analysed access to and use of formal services, as related to unmet needs for care. We describe the cohort study implementation and baseline results in Portugal, with a focus on needs for care and service use assessments.

Collective portfolio: assessment of teaching and learning in health undergraduate courses.

The potential of the reflective collective portfolio as a method of teaching, learning and assessment needs to be emphasized. The objectives is to assess and validate the quality of the collective portfolio as a method of teaching, learning and assessment in the training of health professional. Portfolio quality was analyzed using an inventory of analysis that was adapted and tested for this study.

Relationships between activity and well-being in people with parkinson's disease.

Objectives: The complex symptomatology of Parkinson' disease (PD) usually goes along with reduced physical activity. Previous studies have indicated positive effects of activating therapies on patients' well-being. This study, therefore, examined how activity in daily life is related to patients' subjective condition.
