Introduction Laryngeal cancer (LC) is the most common malignancy in otolaryngology, comprising 30-40% of head and neck malignancies. With an increasing incidence worldwide over the past few decades, LC has resulted in substantial strain on the NHS. There have been notable advancements in the treatment of LC over the years, particularly with the adoption of non-surgical methods, which emerged after the 1991 study conducted by the Veterans Affairs.

Ovarian cancer (OC) is a malignant gynecological cancer with an extremely poor prognosis. Stress granules (SGs) are non-membrane organelles that respond to stressors; however, the correlation between SG-related genes and the prognosis of OC remains unclear. This systematic analysis aimed to determine the expression levels of SG-related genes between high- and low-risk groups of patients with OC and to explore the prognostic value of these genes.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a life-threatening condition characterized by elevated pulmonary artery pressure, leading to right heart failure, and mortality. The role of telomere length, a marker of biological aging, in PAH remains unclear. We utilized summary-level data from genome-wide association studies for various measures of telomere length and PAH.

Although microtubule inhibitors are generally used in advanced stages, they provide the opportunity to prolong survival as an alternative when medical oncologists have difficulty finding options in their patients, who typically have a poor prognosis and most of whom are unresponsive to treatment. For this reason, we wanted to investigate the effect of ixabepilone treatment on survival in earlier metastatic lines. Our study also examined the frequency of side effects and survival differences in patients whose dose was reduced or whose treatment was discontinued.

Background: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness and safety of neuromuscular blockers, mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), and inhaled pulmonary vasodilators (IV) for acute respiratory distress syndrome through a network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
Methods: We searched Chinese and English databases, including China National Knowledge Infrastructure, The Cochrane Library, PubMed, and EMbase, with no time restrictions. We conducted a network meta-analysis and reported the results according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses.

Stanford type B aortic dissection involving the left subclavian artery (LSA) poses significant clinical challenges. The Castor single-branch stent graft and in situ fenestration are commonly used techniques, but the better endovascular treatment remains debated. This study evaluates the clinical effects of the Castor single-branched stent graft versus in situ fenestration in treating Stanford type B aortic dissection involving the LSA.

Rationale: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is the leading global cause of death from cardiovascular disease, and the mortality rate increases in the presence of comorbidities such as renal abscess. The treatment of AMI combined with renal abscess is challenging, especially in combination with urinary tract obstruction, as percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) can lead to progression of the renal abscess and deterioration of renal function. Currently, there is no consensus on the treatment of renal abscess in AMI.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Urate, known for its antioxidant properties, may influence CRC risk and prognosis, but research on this is limited. We used Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to explore the causal relationship between serum urate levels and CRC risk.

Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most prevalent malignant tumors in the world and has an extremely poor prognosis. Regulator of calcineurin 1 (RCAN1), a known tumor suppressor in various cancers, has an undefined role in the proliferation and metastasis of GC. Primary tumor and paired normal gastric tissues were collected from 77 patients with GC for evaluating the mRNA levels of 3 RCAN1 transcripts.

The use of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) as a first-line therapy for advanced high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) has increased. However, several studies have reported NAC-induced platinum resistance. This study aimed to evaluate the predictive impact of clinical factors on chemotherapy response score (CRS) and to select patients who would respond well to NAC.

The basal metabolic rate (BMR) is a crucial indicator of the body's energy expenditure at rest and is essential for understanding metabolic needs. This retrospective study evaluated the prognostic significance of BMR in 521 predominantly Asian patients with stage I-III gastric cancer who underwent curative-intent resection. BMR was calculated using the Food and Agriculture Organization/World Health Organization/United Nations University (FWU BMR) equation.

A growing body of evidence suggests that non-optimal ambient temperatures are associated with increased incidence rate and mortality of thromboembolic diseases. We aim to investigate the association between apparent temperature (AT) and coagulation, which is a central pathological link in the formation of thrombi. In this study, we conducted a time series analysis using data from 18,894 participants collected from a health check-up center in Beijing between 2014 and 2023, and validated our findings using 20,549 participants from an andrology outpatient clinic.

Bacterial bloodstream infections cause high morbidity and mortality. Although bacteria can be detected by various methods, culture methods are often used for the detection of live, accurate, reproducible, and selective bacterial identification. However, the culture method is time-consuming, and clinicians often start treatment immediately due to the long determination time.

Introduction: Patient-controlled intravenous analgesia (PCIA) and patient-controlled epidural analgesia (PCEA) constitute two major advances in pain management after major abdominal surgery. However, the role of PCIA or PCEA has not been particularly studied in elderly patients with gastric cancer. The aim of this study is to make a comparison between PCIA and PCEA in terms of their performance on short-term outcomes in elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic-assisted gastrectomy.
