A multi-site feasibility study of a stepped-care telehealth intervention for depression and anxiety in post-treatment cancer survivors at community cancer clinics (WF-30917CD).

Purpose: This feasibility study estimated accrual, retention, adherence, and summarized preliminary efficacy data from a stepped-care telehealth intervention for cancer survivors with moderate or severe levels of anxiety and/or depressive symptoms.

Methods: Participants were randomized to intervention or enhanced usual care (stratified by symptom severity). In the intervention group, those with moderate symptoms received a cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) workbook/6 bi-weekly check-in calls (low intensity) and severe symptoms received the workbook/12 weekly therapy sessions (high intensity).

Effects of injectable trace minerals (Se, Zn, Cu, and Mn) administration on the immune response elicited by primary intranasal modified-live virus vaccination in dairy calves.

The objective was to determine the effects of injectable trace minerals (ITM, containing Se, Cu, Zn & Mn) administered at the time of primary intranasal (IN) modified-live virus (MLV) vaccination of young dairy calves on the serum neutralizing antibody (SNA) titers to Bovine herpes virus 1 (BHV1), Bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV), and Bovine Parainfluenza type 3 virus (BPIV); cytokine expression in peripheral white blood cells, and BHV1-specific IgA titers in nasal secretions following the vaccination. A total of 60 calves (1 month old) were administered an IN MLV vaccine containing BHV1, BRSV, BPIV (Inforce 3) and randomly assigned to one of two experimental groups: ITM (n = 30; Multimin90, containing Se, Cu, Zn, and Mn) or SAL (n = 30; sterile saline). There was a consistent decay in virus-specific SNA titers in both groups.

A phase I study of the CDK4/6 inhibitor ribociclib combined with gemcitabine in patients with advanced solid tumors.

Background: Based on preclinical data showing addition of CDK4/6 inhibitors to gemcitabine was synergistic, ribociclib was evaluated in combination with gemcitabine to determine the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) and dose limiting toxicities (DLT).

Methods: In this single arm multicohort phase I trial, we evaluated the safety and efficacy of ribociclib plus gemcitabine in patients with advanced solid tumors. Patients received gemcitabine intravenously on days 1 and 8 followed by ribociclib days 8-14, with treatment repeated every 3 weeks.

Effectiveness and safety of hypofractionated gamma knife radiosurgery for large meningiomas and those adjacent to the optic pathway and brainstem: preliminary therapeutic outcomes.

Recent technologic advancements have facilitated the use of hypofractionated Gamma Knife-based radiosurgery (HF-GKRS) to treat large lesions or those in eloquent areas. This study aimed to analyze the preliminary results of HF-GKRS for these meningiomas, and to determine its effectiveness and safety. This single-center retrospective study analyzed data of patients who underwent HF-GKRS for large meningiomas or those in eloquent areas with > 6 months of follow-up.

Genetic predisposition to altered blood cell homeostasis is associated with glioma risk and survival.

Emerging organic contaminants (EOCs) are a growing concern for aquatic ecosystems, underscoring the need for advanced risk assessment methodologies. This study employed an integrated approach to evaluate the risks associated with 563 EOCs across 13 monitoring sites along the Sava River in Croatia. Sampling was conducted during the winter and spring months, spanning February to May.

Autoimmune neurology is a rapidly expanding field driven by the discovery of neuroglial autoantibodies and encompassing a myriad of conditions affecting every level of the nervous system. Traditionally, autoantibodies targeting intracellular antigens are considered markers of T cell-mediated cytotoxicity, while those targeting extracellular antigens are viewed as pathogenic drivers of disease. However, recent advances highlight complex interactions between these immune mechanisms, suggesting a continuum of immunopathogenesis.

Contextualizing the Upper Paleolithic of the Armenian Highlands: New data from Solak-1, central Armenia.

As a potential corridor connecting Southwest Asia with western and northern Europe, the Armenian Highlands and southern Caucasus hold great potential for increasing our understanding of Upper Paleolithic behavioral and cultural variability. However, given the dearth of Upper Paleolithic sites, we lack the data necessary to answer basic questions regarding the timing and nature of the Upper Paleolithic in this region. Solak-1 is an open-air site located along the upper Hrazdan Valley (1635 m above sea level) in central Armenia.

Clinical impacts of utilizing ceftriaxone and metronidazole versus piperacillin/tazobactam in patients diagnosed with complicated diverticulitis.

Background: The optimal antibiotic regimen to empirically treat complicated diverticulitis has not been well established in guidelines.

Methods: A 5-year retrospective cohort study was conducted with 322 patients admitted to Mayo Clinic hospitals for complicated diverticulitis. Outcomes for 89 patients treated with ceftriaxone and metronidazole were compared to 233 patients treated with piperacillin/tazobactam.

Examining homology between MPXV and immunogenic VACV-derived peptides.

The mpox virus (MPXV) came to global attention with the 2022 global outbreak. Current vaccination and post-exposure prophylaxis against MPXV consists of live vaccinia whole virus-based vaccines including ACAM2000®, JYNNEOS™, and LC16m8 originally developed against smallpox. Here, we analyzed 152 vaccinia-derived peptides we identified by mass spectrometry for homology with MPXV-1 and MPXV-2 sequences to evaluate their potential relevance to MPXV-specific immunity.

Effects of sewage sludge ash as a recycled phosphorus source on the soil microbiome.

Ash byproducts have been used as soil amendments to recycle nutrients and modify soil properties such as pH or density. Interest in these practices has continued with increasing emphasis on sustainability, particularly regarding phosphorus reuse from incinerated sewage sludge. Given recent advancements in microbial analyses, the impacts of these practices can now be studied from the soil microbiome perspective.

The relative performance of rhizobial strains could depend on their resource allocation, environmental conditions, and host genotype. Here, we used a high-throughput shoot phenotyping to investigate the effects of Mesorhizobium strain on the growth dynamics, nodulation and bacteroid traits with four chickpea (Cicer arietinum) varieties grown under different water regimes in an experiment including four nitrogen sources (two Mesorhizobium strains, and two uninoculated controls: nitrogen fertilised and unfertilised) under well-watered and drought conditions.
