Introduction: To understand the current clinical practices followed by healthcare professionals (HCPs) among populations with hypertension and obesity with sympathetic overactivity and develop strategies to improve the management of hypertension.
Methods: A standard questionnaire was formulated based on high sympathetic overactivity and/or obesity in young patients with hypertension to gather information on the perception and practices of HCPs toward the management of young patients with hypertension who have high sympathetic overactivity and/or obesity. HCPs throughout India were selected.

Hypertension, a key modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD), significantly contributes to premature death and morbidity worldwide. Despite stabilization in age-adjusted global prevalence, the absolute number of hypertensive individuals doubled from 2000 to 2010, largely due to increases in low- and middle-income countries. In 2021, only 21% of hypertensive individuals globally had effective blood pressure (BP) control.

Typbar-TCV®, a typhoid conjugate vaccine (TCV), was prequalified by the World Health Organization in 2017. We evaluated its effectiveness in a mass vaccination program targeting children 9 months to 14 years in Navi Mumbai, India, from September 2018 to July 2020. We compared laboratory-confirmed typhoid cases from six clinical sites with age-matched community controls.

Epidemiological data from the Indian subcontinent on the burden of Heart failure (HF) is scarce. Mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs) are usually used in the management of HF and hypertension. A consortium of experts reviewed and opined on the pathophysiological role of aldosterone in HF and its cascading effects on the heart in terms of cardiac fibrosis, cardiac hypertrophy, and remodeling, increased propensity to cause arrhythmias in addition to its effect on sodium and water retention.

Heart failure is associated with an increased frequency of hospitalization, reduced life span, and greater risk to public health, thus posing a challenge. In India, torsemide is one of the commonly used loop diuretics for decongestion in heart failure. However, this use of torsemide, including its dosing, and up/down titration, is based on practical experience.

Background: The World Health Organization recommends vaccines for prevention and control of typhoid fever, especially where antimicrobial-resistant typhoid circulates. In 2018, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) implemented a typhoid conjugate vaccine (TCV) campaign. The campaign targeted all children aged 9 months through 14 years within NMMC boundaries (approximately 320 000 children) over 2 vaccination phases.

Genome-wide deregulation contributes to mitochondrial dysfunction and impairment in oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) mechanism resulting in oxidative stress, increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and cell death in individuals with Down syndrome (DS). The cells, which require more energy, such as muscles, brain and heart are greatly affected. Impairment in mitochondrial network has a direct link with patho-mechanism at cellular and systemic levels at the backdrop of generalized metabolic perturbations in individuals with DS.

Immediate assessment of genetic damage in methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas-exposed population in small and heterogeneous samples using diversified study designs and solid-stained metaphases could not depict the actual genetic impact of MIC on accidentally exposed individuals. The outcome of the then large multi-center genetic screening program was not available to the public and scientific community. Also, the routine and regular epidemiological health survey does not capture the genetic and long-term effect of MIC.

Purpose: The chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is characterized by the presence of t(9;22)(q34;q11) that results in chimerization of BCR and ABL genes on the rearranged chromosome 22 or Philadelphia chromosome (Ph). Imatinib has been established as the first line of therapy for CML; in case of Imatinib failure or resistance, other second or third generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are considered. However, acquisition of additional clonal abnormalities (ACAs) interferes in management of CML.

Triplication of genes encoded in human chromosome 21 (HSA21) is responsible for the phenotypes of Down syndrome (DS). The dosage-imbalance of the nuclear genes and the extra-nuclear mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) jointly contributes to patho-mechanisms in DS. The mitochondrial organelles are the power house of cells for generation of ATP and maintaining cellular calcium and redox homeostasis, and cellular energy-metabolism processes.

This prospective, randomized, open-label study was conducted at 3 tertiary hospitals in India to evaluate the effects of combination therapy with an angiotensin receptor blocker and a calcium antagonist on office BP and central hemodynamic parameters in patients with untreated hypertension or uncontrolled BP (>130/>80 mm Hg) during treatment with antihypertensive monotherapy. Patients were randomized to treatment with telmisartan 40 mg/day + amlodipine 5 mg/day or telmisartan 40 mg/day + cilnidipine 10 mg/day.

Background: The prevalence of hypertension in the young adult population is rising in India. Increased arterial stiffness due to RAAS activation and increased sympathetic overactivity due to stress have been implicated as primary factors for the same. This study was aimed to understand the Indian clinician's perspective on approach to management of hypertension in young adults.

Background: A rising burden of coronary artery disease (CAD) in India is a major cause of concern, with angina being the leading manifestation. Hence a questionnaire to sensitize the clinicians about stable angina management and to assist in risk stratification is imperative.
Objective: To evaluate the content and face validity of a modified questionnaire adapted from the 7-item Seattle Angina Questionnaire (SAQ).
Aim: Studies on the changes in the presentation and management of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) during the COVID-19 pandemic from low- and middle-income countries are limited. We sought to determine the changes in the number of admissions, management practices, and outcomes of AMI during the pandemic period in India.
Methods & Results: In this two-timepoint cross-sectional study involving 187 hospitals across India, patients admitted with AMI between 15th March to 15th June in 2020 were compared with those admitted during the corresponding period of 2019.

Introduction: The renoprotective effects of dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers (CCBs) have been established as non-inferior to other classes of antihypertensive drugs. Studying their effect on renal outcome parameters, specifically for amlodipine as monotherapy, in real-world settings can further help in expanding its usage among Indian patients. This study was performed to assess the effects of amlodipine and other dihydropyridine CCBs (cilnidipine, benidipine and azelnidipine) on renal parameters and effectiveness in blood pressure reduction in Indian patients.

Cough is one of the common adverse effects in patients receiving angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs). This review presents the current evidence on incidence and mechanisms of cough associated with ACEIs use, and proposes a practical approach for managing the same for optimal cardiovascular (CV) risk reduction. The incidence of dry cough in patients receiving ACEIs vary among individual ACEIs, and is the lowest with perindopril.
