Death of a child due to venom toxicity following multiple honey bee stings: A case report.

Most bee stings are not life-threatening. Bee venom often causes local, mild allergic reactions in people, but even a single bee sting may induce a fatal anaphylactic reaction. Usually, anaphylactic reaction is the cause of death, but, when a child suffers multiple stings (more than 30), direct toxicity of venom can also be fatal.

Impact of Raising Awareness and Providing Feedback on Compliance to Antibiotic Prescription Guidelines in Pediatric Inpatients.

Introduction:  Antibiotics are vital in managing infectious diseases that significantly burden health infrastructure in a developing country like India. However, the widespread and irrational use of antibiotics has given rise to the menace of antibiotic resistance that threatens to take us back to the pre-antibiotic era. Our study aimed to evaluate the baseline compliance to antibiotic policy in the pediatric inpatient ward and analyze the impact of interventions on compliance with the policy.

Corticosteroid Injections Administered Within 4 Weeks Prior to Hip Arthroscopy Are Associated With Higher Rates of Postoperative Infection.

Purpose: To evaluate the association between the timing of intra-articular hip corticosteroid injections and the risk of postoperative infection in patients undergoing hip arthroscopy.

Methods: The 2010-2021 PearlDiver M157 administrative claims database was queried for patients who underwent hip arthroscopy. Patients who received intra-articular corticosteroid injections within 12 weeks prior to arthroscopy were matched 1:1 to patients who did not receive such injections based on age, sex, and Elixhauser Comorbidity Index, as well as the presence of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, obesity, and tobacco use.

Antibiotic resistance is a pressing global health challenge, driven in part by the remarkable efflux capabilities of efflux pump in AcrB (Acriflavine Resistance Protein B) protein in Gram-negative bacteria. In this study, a multi-approached computational screening strategy encompassing molecular docking, absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicity (ADMET) analysis, druglikeness assessment, molecular dynamics simulations and density functional theory studies was employed to identify novel hits capable of acting against AcrB-mediated antibiotic resistance. Ligand library was acquired from the COCONUT database.

Purpose: Treatment of antibiotic-resistant Gram-positive infections (GPIs), including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is becoming increasingly difficult, particularly in patients with multiple co-morbidities who require antibiotics with greater safety and a consistent pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) profile. Such difficult-to-treat GPIs are often associated with poor outcomes, extended hospital stay and increased expenditure. Role of colour Doppler in predicting foetal outcome in maternal anaemia.

Context: Anaemia is the most common nutritional deficiency in Indian pregnant females. It ensues foetal hypoxia resulting in different compensatory mechanisms in the foetus which may result in adverse perinatal outcomes. Colour Doppler can be used to measure these hemodynamic changes of the foetus ahead of the clinical manifestations, guiding the obstetrician for the appropriate management and circumventing any dire complication.

We report a case of a 32-year-old otherwise healthy woman who presented with an acute bilateral visual disturbance a few days after testing positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The current study investigated the genomic diversity and mutation profile of SARS-CoV-2 variants in wastewater for the period spanning COVID-19 pandemic up to December, 2022. A total of 3618 complete SARS-CoV-2 genome sequences from waste water samples submitted to the GISAID database were retrieved.

Methods: This study is a cohort analysis of secondary data collected from 1804 HIV-TB co-infected individuals from 16 anti-retroviral therapy (ART) centres affiliated with the Mumbai Districts AIDS Control Society, Mumbai, India.

Background: First-line treatment of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) achieves durable remission in approximately 60% of patients. In relapsed or refractory disease, only about 20% achieve durable remission with salvage chemoimmunotherapy and consolidative autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT). Introduction: Developmental dysplasia of hip (DDH) is an abnormal development of hip joint which when neglected in early age group can lead to joint pain and secondary osteoarthritic changes. Crowe types III and IV neglected DDH joint is widely managed with total hip arthroplasty with subtrochanteric shortening.

Case Report: A 52-year-old female presented with neglected DDH joint which was managed in two stages with femoral lowering followed by uncemented total hip arthroplasty without osteotomy.
