Introduction Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is one of the dreaded events in sick children who are ventilated in the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and has a high mortality rate. So, there is a need to know the causative organisms, risk factors, and possible predictors in a particular PICU for prevention, early identification, and treatment to decrease morbidity and mortality. This study was planned with the objectives to determine the microbiological profile, associated risk factors, and outcome of VAP in children.

Rupture of pectoralis major tendon (PMT) is an uncommon injury, but its incidence has been increasing in the past 2 decades. Although open repair of the torn tendon is the preferred choice of treatment in acute and chronic cases, this often is not possible for chronic retracted tendon injuries. While several techniques have been described for PMT reconstruction, these allografts and autografts are often smaller and less thick than the native PMT.

Purpose: Intramedullary implants are well accepted fixation of all types of intertrochanteric (IT) fractures, both stable and unstable types. Intramedullary nails have an ability to effectively support the posteromedial part, but fail to buttress the broken lateral wall requiring lateral augmentation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcome of proximal femoral nail augmented with trochanteric buttress plate for broken lateral wall with IT fractures, which was fixed to the femur through hip screw and anti-rotation screw nail.

Purpose: To study the incidence of dry eye disease (DED) in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients undergoing external beam radiotherapy (EBRT), to find a correlation between tumor location and total radiation dose with DED, and to report various radiotherapy (RT) induced acute toxic effects on ocular and adnexal structures.

Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted at a tertiary eye-care center on 90 patients of HNC undergoing EBRT from March 2021 to May 2022. All underwent a thorough clinical history and complete ophthalmological examination including an ocular surface disease index (OSDI) questionnaire, visual acuity, anterior segment, angle and posterior segment examination, dry eye workup including the Schirmer test, tear meniscus height, tear break-up time, corneal fluorescein staining and grading, and meibography by auto-refractometer and its scoring at each visit.

Wilson disease is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disease, caused by the mutation of the ATP7B gene leading to decreased secretion of serum ceruloplasmin in blood and decrease biliary excretion of copper leading to toxic level accumulation in the liver, brain, kidney, and cornea, resulting in development of characteristic liver disease and neuropsychiatric symptoms. Arterial switch for double-outlet left ventricle - Diagnostic and surgical considerations.

Ann Pediatr Cardiol

January 2023

Department of Heart and Lung Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support, MGM Healthcare, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

Double-outlet left ventricle (DOLV) is a rare congenital cardiac anomaly in which both the aorta and pulmonary artery arise completely or predominantly from the left ventricle. DOLV is a spectrum and can be classified depending on the position of the ventricular septal defect (VSD) relative to the great vessels, the relationship of the great vessels, and the presence or absence of pulmonary or aortic outflow obstruction. In the absence of tricuspid atresia or hypoplastic right ventricle, two ventricle repair is the preferred surgical treatment.

A 61-year-old male underwent fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (FDG PET-CT) for evaluation of fever and weight loss with clinical suspicion of occult malignancy or tuberculosis. The scan showed hypermetabolism in bilateral submandibular salivary glands, biliary radicles, pancreas, bilateral kidneys, prostate, and multiple lymph nodes. Based on the concomitant involvement of these sites, suspicion of immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related disease was raised in PET-CT report.
