The potential of uncharred biomaterial derived from dry leaves of Ficusbenjamina (Family: Moraceae, local name: Weeping Fig) plant to remove Cr(VI) from aqueous samples was investigated. In the present work, treatment of dilute acids was used for activating the adsorption centres on the biomass instead of cumbersome charring process. The plant material was characterized using FT-IR, FE-SEM and EDX.

Microbial community structure of crude petroleum oil (CP)- and refined petroleum oil (RP)-contaminated soil was investigated. The taxonomical and functional diversity of such soils can be a great source of information about microbial community and genes involved in petroleum hydrocarbon (PHC) degradation. In this study, microbial diversity of soils contaminated by RP from urban biome of Pune, India, and CP from agricultural biome of Gujarat, India, were assessed by 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing on Illumina MiSeq platform.

A periodically precipitating system wherein interband distance successively decreases is known as revert Liesegang banding. The phenomenon is rare, and the underlying mechanism is implicit. In the present paper, the Liesegang system comprising of AgNO and KBr as the outer and inner electrolyte pair showing revert banding in agar gel by employing a 1D experimental setup is studied under varying concentrations of participating species.

An enantioselective synthesis of iso-, isothio-, and isoselenohydantoin and diketopiperazine-fused tetrahydroisoquinolines from l-Dopa was reported. The route consists of an Pictet-Spengler reaction of ( S)-2-amino-3-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)propanoates with various aldehydes to afford diastereomeric tetrahydroisoquinolines. Next step, the tetrahydroisoquinolines were further reacted with iso-, isothio-, or isoselenocyanates to construct hydantoin.

Base-controlled regioselective synthesis of 2-imino thiazolines and 2-thioxoimidazolin-4-ones was achieved to use a one-pot reaction between chiral amino esters, isothiocyanates, and α-bromoketones/alkyl halides. This three-component coupling reaction in acetonitrile provides 2-imino thiazolines, whereas the formation of 2-thioxoimidazolin-4-ones was observed under basic conditions at ambient temperature. The corresponding products were obtained in good to excellent yield with broad substrate scope.

We investigated the phylogenetic position of Triops granarius populations from four localities in the Western Ghats using partial sequences of three mitochondrial genes (COI, 12S rRNA and 16S rRNA) publicly available on the GenBank database. One of these localities, Panchgani, is particularly important since it is the type locality of the former Apus orientalis which is currently treated as a junior synonym of T. granarius.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory and destructive joint disease that affects the worldwide population. Alpinia officinarum Hance (Zingiberaceae), rhizomes are widely used ethnobotanically as an anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antioxidant agent in traditional medicine.
Aim: To investigate the efficacy and possible mechanism of isolated phytoconstituent from the methanol extract of A.

The present work describes the improved photocatalytic activity of cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)-assisted BiWO (CBTH) toward the synthesis of bioactive benzazoles. X-ray diffraction analysis of CBTH suggests that crystal growth has occurred along the (200) plane, whereas field-emission scanning electron microscopy images confirm two-dimensional rose bud morphology and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy analysis suggests the formation of thin nanosheets possessing an orthorhombic structure. Temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia and Py-IR measurements indicate substantial acidity with the generation of Brønsted acid sites on the surface of CBTH.

Heavy metal tolerance of two marine strains of Yarrowia lipolytica was tested on solid yeast extract peptone dextrose agar plates. Based on minimum inhibitory concentration esteems, it is inferred that the two strains of Y. lipolytica were tolerant to heavy metals such as Pb(II), Cr(III), Zn(II), Cu(II), As(V), and Ni(II) ions.

Despite being one of the dominant groups in freshwater ecosystems, morphological and ontogenetic studies on aquatic Hemiptera have received little attention in the Oriental region. We present the ontogenetic trajectory and allometry of the widespread Oriental belostomatid species, Diplonychus rusticus (Fabricius) for the first time. We have measured nine different morphological variables throughout the growth of the bug using both field captured and laboratory reared specimens.

Phytochemical investigation of methanol extract of the rhizomes of Alpinia officinarum Hance afforded four known diarylheptanoids 1,7-diphenylhept-4-en-3-one (1), 5-hydroxy-1,7-diphenyl-3-heptanone (2), 5-hydroxy-7-(4″-hydroxy-3″-methoxyphenyl)-1-phenyl-3-heptanone (3), and 7-(4″-hydroxy-3″-methoxyphenyl)-1-phenyl heptan-3-one (4).The acetate derivative of (4), 7-(4″-actetate-3″-methoxy phenyl)-1-phenyl heptan-3-one (5), was prepared. These diarylheptanoids exhibited promising in vitro and ex vivo antitubercular activity for the first time against dormant Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Ra with the IC values between 0.

Cinnamaldehyde, the bioactive component of the spice cinnamon, and its derivatives have been shown to possess anti-cancer activity against various cancer cell lines. However, its hydrophobic nature invites attention for efficient drug delivery systems that would enhance the bioavailability of cinnamaldehyde without affecting its bioactivity. Here, we report the synthesis of stable aqueous suspension of cinnamaldehyde tagged Fe3O4 nanoparticles capped with glycine and pluronic polymer (CPGF NPs) for their potential application in drug delivery and hyperthermia in breast cancer.

Indirana leithii (Boulenger, 1888) (Anura: Ranixalidae) is a frog species endemic to the Western Ghats and is categorized as Vulnerable according to IUCN red list. This species is currently considered to be widespread over the entire Western Ghats. Our study based on molecular data (using DNA sequence fragments of the mitochondrial 12S rRNA and 16S rRNA genes and the nuclear rhodopsin gene), morphological analysis of topotypic material as well as material collected from a wide range within the northern Western Ghats, suggests that the species has instead a restricted range in the state of Maharashtra.

To ascertain the contribution of adsorptive capacity of Montmorillonite (MMT) towards photocatalytic process, CdSe-MMT nanocomposites are explored for adsorptive removal of Indigo Carmine (IC). The nanocomposites are prepared via two approaches: (a) in-situ formation and (b) wet impregnation of CdSe onto MMT support. XRD analysis of composites suggested the proper dispersion of CdSe nanoparticles in MMT clay matrix with spherical morphology of 5-10nm sized CdSe nanoparticles.

One pot synthesis of 3-Aracylphthalide was accomplished in good yield by reacting 2-carboxy benzaldehyde with various aromatic methyl ketones in presence of methane sulphonic acid. Various phthalides thus obtained were characterized with spectral techniques. These phthalides were subjected to in vitro antitubercular screening against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Ra (MTB) by using XRMA protocol.

Many species of animal-pollinated flowers are known to vary widely in the nectar content of flowers. Some proportion of flowers in many species is apparently nectarless, and such flowers are believed to be 'cheaters'. Cheating may explain a part of the variability in nectar content.
