Background: Mobility is a key social determinant of health for female sex workers (FSWs). While extant research has focused on the adverse effects of mobility for FSWs, there are very few studies that have examined the multiple ways in which mobility may impact the lives of these mobile women from their perspective. This qualitative study aims to fill this gap by exploring how mobility impacts the lives, livelihoods, and HIV care and treatment from the perspectives of women living with HIV in two epidemic settings, the Dominican Republic and Tanzania.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative condition marked by cognitive deterioration and changes in behavior. Acetylcholinesterase (AChE), which hydrolyzes acetylcholine, is a key drug target for treating AD. This research aimed to identify new AChE inhibitors using the IMPPAT database.

Background: Linear growth faltering continues to negatively affect children in low- and middle-income countries and is associated with poor cognitive, developmental, and educational outcomes. Laboratory and observational data suggest that aflatoxin (AF) is a contributor to stunting.
Methods: The Mycotoxin Mitigation Trial was a cluster-randomized, community-based 2-group trial conducted in Kongwa District, Tanzania, between 2018 and 2020.

The AAA+ (ATPases associated with a variety of cellular activities) ATPase, Thorase, also known as ATAD1, plays multiple roles in synaptic plasticity, mitochondrial quality control and mTOR signaling through disassembling protein complexes like AMPAR and mTORC1 in an ATP-dependent manner. The Oligomerization of Thorase is crucial for its disassembly and remodeling functions. We show that wild-type Thorase forms long helical filaments , dependent on ATP binding but not hydrolysis.

Introduction: We used machine learning to identify novel strategies to target azithromycin to the children with watery diarrhea who are most likely to benefit.
Methods: Using data from a randomized trial of azithromycin for watery diarrhea, we developed personalized treatment rules given sets of diagnostic, child, and clinical characteristics, employing a robust ensemble machine learning-based procedure. For each rule, we estimated the proportion treated under the rule and the average benefits of treatment.

The study aimed to develop structured, expert-based clinical guidance on the prenatal and postnatal management of hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn. A Delphi procedure was conducted among an international panel of experts in fetal medicine, neonatology, and hematology. Experts were selected based on their expertise, relevant publications, and affiliations.

Background: The population structure of the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum can reveal underlying adaptive evolutionary processes. Selective pressures to maintain complex genetic backgrounds can encourage inbreeding, producing distinct parasite clusters identifiable by population structure analyses.
Methods: We analysed population structure in 3783 P falciparum genomes from 21 countries across Africa, provided by the MalariaGEN Pf7 dataset.

Background: The United Republic of Tanzania has had a 41.4% mortality rate in the intensive care unit. In Tanzania, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has implemented quality improvement (QI), yet the Tanzanian health sector continues to face resource constraints, unsustainable projects and gaps in knowledge and skills, contributing to unacceptably high mortality rates for Tanzanian patients.

The use of ultra-high-field 7-Tesla (7T) MRI in multiple sclerosis (MS) research has grown significantly over the past two decades. With recent regulatory approvals of 7T scanners for clinical use in 2017 and 2020, the use of this technology for routine care is poised to continue to increase in the coming years. In this context, the North American Imaging in MS Cooperative (NAIMS) convened a workshop in February 2023 to review the previous and current use of 7T technology for MS research and potential future research and clinical applications.

Purpose: Delays in initiating cancer treatment time to treatment initiation (TTI) can negatively impact patient outcomes. This study aimed to quantify the association between TTI and survival in breast, cervical and prostate cancer patients at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital (IALCH) in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, as a microcosm of Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).
Methods: We analyzed electronic medical records of patients diagnosed with breast, cervical or prostate cancer at IALCH between 2010 and 2020.

SET and MYND-domain containing protein 3 (SMYD3) mediates epigenetic repression of type I IFN response genes in human papillomavirus (HPV)-negative HNSCC cells, and Smyd3 depletion using anti-sense oligonucleotides (ASOs) increases the sensitivity of syngeneic mouse oral carcinoma (MOC1) models to anti-PD-1 therapy. In this study, we utilized single-cell RNA-seq of MOC1 tumors treated with Smyd3 ASOs and found enrichment of type I IFN response pathways in cancer cells, a shift of CD8 T-cells toward an activated/memory phenotype, and a shift of neutrophils toward an anti-tumorigenic phenotype. Mechanisms of resistance to the Smyd3 ASO and anti-PD-1 combination were derived from cancer cells, macrophages, and CD8 T-cells, including neutrophil enrichment through the upregulation of , repression of and defective antigen presentation.

Background And Objective: Recommendations of first-line therapies for metastatic hormone-sensitive (mHSPC), nonmetastatic castrate-resistant (M0CRPC), and metastatic castrate-resistant (mCRPC) prostate cancer do not account for cardiotoxicity due to a lack of clear prior evidence. This manuscript assesses cardiotoxicity of these therapies.
Methods: We searched Ovid Medline, Elsevier Embase, and the Cochrane Library for randomized clinical trials (RCTs) from database inception to January 14, 2024.
