Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted at the University of Kansas Health System and involved ambulatory physicians from all hospitals who were granted access to a new procedural documentation tool.

Our study utilized Life101, a new self-assessment inventory, to assess changes in life skill competencies in students over the first year of medical school. Life101 employs nine scales centered around ubiquitous experiences to assess the relationships between beliefs and outcomes. Although not statistically significant, trends were revealed within the data.

Stimulant medications effects in heat-related illness in ADHD patients: a large database study.

Introduction: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), a prevalent neurodevelopmental disorder affecting a significant portion of the population, is commonly managed with stimulant medications. These medications, while effective, have been associated with thermoregulatory dysfunction and an increased risk of heat-related adverse events. The current study sought to compare the incidence of such events in ADHD patients receiving stimulant medications with those not on these treatments.

Solitary fibrous tumors are rare and typically benign fibroblastic neoplasms with a mean age of onset ranging from 60 to 70 years. Solitary fibrous tumors may arise anywhere within the body, however the pleura is the most common site of origin for these tumors, with approximately 30% of tumors arising from the pleura. In this report we highlight the case of a 62-year-old woman who presented with gradually progressive left sided chest pain that was eventually diagnosed as a pleural SFT.

Methods: This is a systematic review with meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quasi-experimental studies on the effects of exercise interventions in the inflammatory markers of sedentary adults with MHO phenotype. Systematic searches were performed in PubMed, Cochrane, CINAHL, and OVID from January 2021 to January 2022.

Background: Receipt of cigarette and e-cigarette coupons predicts initiation and progression of use and hinders cessation. Less is known about how coupons operate in different tobacco regulatory environments. The current study utilized longitudinal data from the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study to address this research gap.

Effect of atorvastatin gel in non-surgical treatment of peri-implant mucositis: A randomized controlled clinical trial.

Background: Peri-implant diseases, such as peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis, are inflammatory conditions caused by biofilms that can lead to the loss of surrounding soft tissues and bone. The most effective treatment involves non-surgical mechanical debridement to remove plaque, but other treatment modalities have shown limited success. This study investigated the anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects of atorvastatin (ATV) gel as an additional treatment for peri-implant mucositis.

Effects of mind-body exercise on physical ability, mental health and quality of life in stroke patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Purpose: To systematically evaluate the effects of mind-body exercise on physical ability, mental health and quality of life in stroke patients.

Methods: According to the PRISMA statement, we searched Web of science, Pubmed, Embase, Sinomed, CNKI, Wanfang, and VIP databases to collect randomized controlled trials on the effects of mind-body exercise on improving balance function, motor capacity, walking function, depression and quality of life in stroke patients. The search was conducted in January 2024.

Effects of a priming session with heavy sled pushes on neuromuscular performance and perceived recovery in soccer players: a crossover design study during competitive microcycles.

This study compared the effects of a sled push priming session on performance in 20 m sprint times, vertical jump, and perceived recovery, in comparison to a control condition, during competitive microcycles. Sixteen young semi-professional football players completed two conditions: priming (heavy sled pushes and MD-1 training) and control (only MD-1 regular training), in a crossover design. Twenty-metre sprint times and countermovement jump (CMJ) were assessed 24 hours following the completion of the experimental sessions.

Accrual Suspensions in Seamless Phase II/III Trials: A Review of NRG Oncology Trials.

Purpose: A phase II/III trial is a type of phase III trial that has embedded in it an intermediate phase II go/no-go decision as to whether to continue the accrual to the phase III sample size. We examine the design characteristics and experience of a well-defined set of National Cancer Institute phase II/III trials, with special emphasis on designed accrual suspensions while awaiting the data to become mature enough for the phase II analysis. This experience is used to highlight the potential of using a calendar backstop to avoid an inordinately long accrual suspension.

Objective: Inclusion body myositis (IBM) is an idiopathic inflammatory myopathy with muscle pathology characterized by endomysial inflammation, rimmed vacuoles, and cytoplasmic mislocalization of transactive response DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43). We aimed to determine whether loss of TDP-43 splicing repression led to the production of "cryptic peptides" that could be detected in muscle biopsies as a useful biomarker for IBM.

Methods: We used an antisera against a neoepitope encoded by a TDP-43-dependent cryptic exon within hepatoma-derived growth factor-like protein 2 (HDGFL2) for immunohistochemical analysis on muscle biopsy samples of 122 patients with IBM, 181 disease controls, and 16 healthy controls without abnormal muscle pathology.

Objectives: Few digital health interventions for dementia caregivers, especially for racial and ethnic minorities, include long-term follow-ups.
