Purpose: A single phase III trial has demonstrated that prostate radiotherapy with a focal, intra-prostatic "microboost" can improve disease control without an overall increase in toxicity. It is unclear how these results generalize to other treatment schedules and protocols.
Methods: A systematic search of PubMed and the Cochrane Review was performed for studies published on or before September 1, 2023.
Introduction: The incidence of adhesive capsulitis (AC) is higher in patients with diabetes mellitus. While AC is usually treated non-operatively, diabetic patients are more likely to require more extensive treatments such as manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) or arthroscopic capsular release. Despite the recent surge in popularity of GLP-1 agonists ("GLP-1s") for the treatment of type 2 diabetes (T2DM), there is a lack of literature describing the effect of GLP-1 use on the incidence and management of AC in patients with T2DM.

Introduction: Certain types of muscular dystrophy (MD), notably facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), exhibit muscle fiber necrosis with regeneration and a nonspecific inflammatory process. Although rare, the coexistence of MDs and autoimmune myositis has been observed. To investigate the statistical laws of acoustic emission energy (AEE) avalanche dynamics of sandstone under varying fracture lengths and dip angles, as well as to determine the relationship between acoustic emission (AE) parameters and damage variables, we studied the mechanical properties and AE characteristics of sandstone with a single fracture subjected to uniaxial compression with the aid of the Shimadzu AG-IS test system and the PCI-2 AE system. The AEE characteristics of fractured sandstone under load were analyzed based on the statistical method of avalanche dynamics, with emphasis on AEE distribution, aftershock sequence, and waiting time distribution. The Weibull distribution function that incorporates a correction coefficient β was employed to optimize the Weibull parameters based on the strain equivalent hypothesis theory, which led to the establishment of a statistical damage constitutive model for fractured rock.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) is a critical pathogen, and its antibiotic resistance is largely driven by the quorum-sensing regulator LasR. Herein, we report the design, synthesis, and characterization of Aqs1C, a mutated peptide derivative of Aqs1, optimized to inhibit LasR and its quorum-sensing pathway. By introducing a targeted mutation, Aqs1C exhibited enhanced stability and binding affinity for LasR protein compared to its predecessor, Aqs1B.

Multiple myeloma is a clonal plasma cell (PC) dyscrasia that arises from precursors and has been studied utilizing approaches focused on CD138 cells. By combining single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) with scB-cell receptor sequencing (scBCR-seq), we differentiate monoclonal/neoplastic from polyclonal/normal PCs and find more dysregulated genes, especially in precursor patients, than we would have by analyzing bulk PCs. To determine whether this approach can identify oncogenes that contribute to disease pathobiology, mitotic arrest deficient-2 like-1 (MAD2L1) and S-adenosylmethionine synthase isoform type-2 (MAT2A) are validated as targets with drug-like molecules that suppress myeloma growth in preclinical models.
