Although children's dietary intake often resembles that of their parents', dietary resemblance has not been examined among children with intellectual disabilities (ID), where food selectivity is a common parental concern. We compared dietary resemblance in children with typical development (TD), ID, and ID and co-occurring autism (ID + A) in parent-child dyads, and examined whether child food selectivity mediated between-group differences. Dietary data from parents and their children (3-8 years, male = 61.

Myosin storage myopathy (MSM) is a rare skeletal muscle disorder caused by mutations in the slow muscle/β-cardiac myosin heavy chain (MHC) gene. MSM missense mutations frequently disrupt the tail's stabilizing heptad repeat motif. Disease hallmarks include subsarcolemmal hyaline-like β-MHC aggregates, muscle weakness, and, occasionally, cardiomyopathy.

Residents of Puerto Rico face a high burden of food insecurity (FI), which has been associated with insomnia symptoms (IS). However, this association remains understudied in Puerto Rican young adults, a vulnerable group experiencing an elevated prevalence of FI and poor sleep. We evaluated the association between FI and IS and the mediating role of psychological distress symptoms among young adults in Puerto Rico.

Background: Physical activity has emerged as a modifiable behavioral factor to improve cognitive function. However, research on adherence to remote monitoring of physical activity in older adults is limited.
Objective: This study aimed to assess adherence to remote monitoring of physical activity in older adults within a pilot cohort from objective user data, providing insights for the scalability of such monitoring approaches in larger, more comprehensive future studies.

Digital health refers to the use of information and communication technologies in medicine (including smartphone apps, wearables, other non-invasive sensors, informatics and telehealth platforms) to prevent illness, deliver treatment, and promote wellness. This rapidly proliferating group of technologies has the potential to reduce harm for people with opioid use disorder (OUD) and facilitate the recovery process; however, development in this space for OUD has been slower compared to that for other medical conditions. Unique issues with OUD management surrounding patient provider relationships, interaction with the healthcare system, autonomy and trust sometimes hinder care approaches, including those in digital health.

Introduction: The role socioeconomic status (SES) on outcomes following bariatric surgery has been heavily investigated in previous studies. The goal of this study is to determine the association between Area Deprivation Index (ADI), a multidimensional indicator of socioeconomic conditions, and remission of type 2 diabetes mellitus following longitudinal sleeve gastrectomy (SG).
Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of 312 patients undergoing LSG at a single-center in a metropolitan hospital setting over two years.

Child trauma, particularly within the context of the caregiving relationship, can have profound impacts on health, thus pediatric clinicians have a crucial role in recognizing and responding to trauma. Yet, trauma-informed care (TIC) is often described by its guiding principles rather than an approach to implementation. TIC requires the pediatric clinician to not only be familiar with the physiology of trauma, but actively promote resilience and employ strategies for primary prevention, secondary response and tertiary treatment of trauma.

Folding intermediates mediate both protein folding and the misfolding and aggregation observed in human diseases, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and are prime targets for therapeutic interventions. In this study, we identified the core nucleus of structure for a folding intermediate in the second RNA recognition motif (RRM2) of the ALS-linked RNA-binding protein, TDP-43 (TAR DNA-binding protein-43), using a combination of experimental and computational approaches. Urea equilibrium unfolding studies revealed that the RRM2 intermediate state consists of collapsed residual secondary structure localized to the N-terminal half of RRM2, while the C-terminus is largely disordered.

Although the overall prognosis for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has improved over the past several decades, there are still survival differences that are not accurately defined by clinicopathological factors. Thus, there is an unmet clinical need to develop novel approaches to enhance prognostic accuracy for these patients. Keratin 17 (K17) is a negative prognostic biomarker in a wide range of cancer types, including pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, and pulmonary adenocarcinoma (LUAD), but has yet to be investigated as a prognostic biomarker in primary lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC).

Osteoporosis, a prevalent ailment worldwide, compromises bone strength and resilience, particularly afflicting the elderly population. This condition significantly heightens susceptibility to fractures even from trivial incidents, such as minor falls or impacts. A major challenge in diagnosing osteoporosis is the absence of discernible symptoms, allowing osteoporosis to remain undetected until the occurrence of a fracture event.

Background: In order for cancers to progress, they must evade elimination by CD8 T cells or other immune mechanisms. CD8 T cells recognize and kill tumor cells that display immunogenic tumor peptides bound to MHC I molecules. One of the ways that cancers can escape such killing is by reducing expression of MHC I molecules, and loss of MHC I is frequently observed in tumors.

Patients with TP53 aberrations comprise the highest risk subset of all myeloid malignancies. The managerial conundrum of TP53-mutant myelodysplastic neoplasms (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) stems from refractoriness to or relapse after conventional chemotherapy, as well as the limited translational success of investigational therapies targeting TP53-mutant cells. Thus far, no targeted therapies have been commercially approved for this mutational subset.

The ongoing hepatitis C virus (HCV) epidemic in the United States disproportionately affects rural people who inject drugs (PWID). This study explores the HCV risk environment in rural northern New England by examining PWID experiences and perceptions of HCV and injection equipment-sharing practices. We performed a thematic analysis on semi-structured interviews conducted with 21 adults with a history of injection drug use from rural New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts between April 2018 and August 2019.

Here, we employ polymer physics models of chromatin to investigate the 3D folding of a 2 Mb wide genomic region encompassing the human gene, a crucial DNA locus involved in key cellular functions. Through extensive Molecular Dynamics simulations, we reconstruct in silico the ensemble of single-molecule 3D structures, which we benchmark against recent in situ Hi-C 2.0 data.

Evidence shows that obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with the development of stroke. This study investigates the relationship between OSA and post-stroke complications, addressing the limited data on how OSA influences the severity and development of these complications through a systematic review of existing literature. Data was collected from PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases up to December 2023.
