Purpose: To evaluate the short-term (1 week after completion of treatment) effect of office-based vergence and anti-suppression therapy (OBVAT) on binocular vision and accommodative function when compared to observation alone in children with small-to-moderate angle intermittent exotropia (IXT).

Methods: In this single-masked (examiner masked), two-arm, single-centre randomised clinical trial, 40 participants, 6 to <18 years of age with untreated IXT were randomly assigned to OBVAT or observation alone. Participants assigned to therapy received 16 weeks of OBVAT (60 min per visit, once per week) with home reinforcement (15 min per day, 5 days a week).

One of the fundamental goals of particle physics is to gain a microscopic understanding of the strong interaction. Electromagnetic form factors quantify the structure of hadrons in terms of charge and magnetization distributions. While the nucleon structure has been investigated extensively, data on hyperons are still scarce.

Search for Rare Decays of D_{s}^{+} to Final States π^{+}e^{+}e^{-}, ρ^{+}e^{+}e^{-}, π^{+}π^{0}e^{+}e^{-}, K^{+}π^{0}e^{+}e^{-}, and K_{S}^{0}π^{+}e^{+}e^{-}.

Phys Rev Lett

September 2024

State Key Laboratory of Particle Detection and Electronics, Beijing 100049, Hefei 230026, People's Republic of China.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists used special data from a detector to look for rare particle decays of a type called the D_{s}^{+} decay, focusing on how it might change into other particles like kaons or pions.
  • They found strong evidence for the decay D_{s}^{+}→π^{+}ϕ and also discovered a new decay D_{s}^{+}→ρ^{+}ϕ, both involving particles that decay into pairs of electrons.
  • However, they didn't find strong signals for three other types of decays they were looking for, and set limits on how often those changes could happen.

Article Synopsis
  • SHORT VEGETATIVE PHASE (SVP) is a protein that helps control when litchi plants stop growing and go into dormancy (a resting state).
  • In litchi, a specific version called LcSVP2 is really active in the buds when the plant is resting and less active when it's growing.
  • Researchers found that LcSVP2 helps the buds stay dormant and might also work with another protein to manage flowering in litchi trees.

Introduction: Currently, there is no consensus regarding the management of intermittent exotropia (IXT), which includes both surgical and non-surgical treatment options. Nonsurgical management of IXT has been suggested and includes watchful observation, patching, overminus lenses, prism, and vision therapy/orthoptics. While a significant portion of IXT patients are treated by surgery, it is reported that there is a substantial tendency for reoperation or recurrence of IXT.

Vascular smooth muscle-specific LRRC8A knockout ameliorates angiotensin II-induced cerebrovascular remodeling by inhibiting the WNK1/FOXO3a/MMP signaling pathway.

Acta Pharmacol Sin

September 2024

Department of Pharmacology, and Cardiac & Cerebral Vascular Research Center, Zhongshan School of Medicine, Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, 510080, China.

Hypertensive cerebrovascular remodeling involves the enlargement of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), which activates volume-regulated Cl channels (VRCCs). The leucine-rich repeat-containing family 8 A (LRRC8A) has been shown to be the molecular identity of VRCCs. However, its role in vascular remodeling during hypertension is unclear.
