Materials (Basel)

December 2024

Key Laboratory High Efficiency & Clean Mech Manufacture, School of Mechanical Engineering, Shandong University, Ministry of Education, 17923 Jingshi Rd., Jinan 250061, China.

This study employed different spot pattern lasers to clean the oxide film on the surface of a TC4 titanium alloy. The variation in temperature field and ablation depth during the laser cleaning process was simulated by establishing a finite element model. The effects of various laser processing parameters on the micromorphology, elemental composition, and surface roughness of the TC4 titanium alloy were analyzed.

In this work, we present the green synthesis of complex - derived from β-hidroxymethylidene indanones by ultrasound, which allowed for the obtaining of compounds in a shorter time and with good yields. These organotin complexes were then doped with cobalt porphine and incorporated into a poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(4-styrenesulfonate) matrix to manufacture composite semiconductor films. The semiconductor films were characterized through atomic force microscopy, examining their topography, Knoop hardness (around 17 HK), and tensile strength, which varied from 5 × 10 to 7 × 10 Pa.

This study introduces a novel analytical framework for investigating the vibration characteristics of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) elliptical cylindrical shells under arbitrary boundary conditions. Unlike previous studies that focused on simplified geometries or specific boundary conditions, this work combines the least-squares weighted residual method (LSWRM) with an adapted variational principle, addressing high-order vibration errors and ensuring continuity across structural segments. The material properties are modeled using an extended rule of mixtures, capturing the effects of carbon nanotube volume fractions and distribution types on structural dynamics.

Fracto-emission is the ejection of electrons and positive ions from matter undergoing a mechanical fracture. The creation and propagation of fractures in insulating material can generate an electrical signal that can be detected using a sufficiently fast signal recorder. The theoretical equations related to crack creation/propagation that induce an externally electric signal are detailed for two conditions: with and without an external applied electric voltage.

Nickel (Ni) single-layer coatings were electrodeposited under varying pulse periods (T), duty cycles (θ), and average current densities (i) using four distinct pulse current waveforms: rectangular (Rec), triangular (Tri), ramp-up triangular (Rup), and ramp-down triangular (Rdn). This study demonstrated, through dynamic polarization curves and surface morphology analysis, that single-layer coatings showed relatively good corrosion resistance when deposited at shorter pulse periods, larger duty cycles, and higher average current densities. Moreover, compared with other pulse current waveforms, single-layer coatings electrodeposited at T = 10 ms, θ = 0.

Conventional PP with a linear chain structure is not suitable for foam processing due to its poor rheological properties. In this study, PP was modified with PE through reactive melt blending of maleic anhydride-grafted PP (MA-PP) with a small amount of PE bearing glycidyl groups on its backbone (G-PE), with the aim of enhancing the melt rheological properties of PP to make it suitable for foam processing. An anhydride-epoxy reaction occurred between MA-PP and G-PE during the melt processing, resulting in the formation of a crosslinked polymer network, which was confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy, a solubility test, and the presence of a rubbery plateau above the melting point.

To reveal the changes in crop yield and contribution rate of black soil productivity under long-term different fertilization conditions in black soil areas and to find the important significance of fertilization for sustainable and stable crop yield, high yield, and improving the contribution rate of black soil nutrients. Based on the long-term experiment of black soil fertility in Harbin, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, under the maize-wheat-soybean rotation system, crop yield, sustainability and stability of yield, the contribution rate of black soil productivity, and natural nutrient supply capacity under 10 fertilization treatments (CK, NP, NK, PK, NPK, M, MNP, MNK, MPK, and MNPK) were analyzed. Results showed that, compared with the treatment of chemical fertilizer, yields of maize, wheat, and soybeans increased under treatment of organic fertilizer combined with chemical fertilizer, among which the yields of maize and wheat changed the most.

  • White clover is susceptible to drought stress, and recent research identified the NAC transcription factor TrNAC002, which plays a key role in regulating plant responses to this stress.
  • Overexpression of TrNAC002 leads to enhanced leaf size, increased lateral root growth, and higher expression of genes related to vegetative growth, allowing plants to better withstand drought conditions.
  • The study shows that modified plants have lower reactive oxygen species levels and higher flavonoid content, which correlates with improved survival under drought conditions compared to wild-type plants.

Dopamine (DA) is an important catecholamine neurotransmitter and its abnormal concentration is closely related to diseases such as hypertension, Parkinson's disease and schizophrenia. Due to the advantages of high sensitivity and fast response for electrochemiluminescence (ECL), developing ECL sensors for detecting DA was very critical in clinical diagnosis. ECL resonance energy transfer (ECL-RET) was an effective signaling mechanism.

The rapidly growing glycoscience has boosted the research on the synthesis of glycans and their conjugates, which are centered on the stereoselective formation of glycosidic bonds. Compared to the mainstream acid-promoted glycosylation method that undergoes the S1 type mechanism, the basic/neutral conditions give better stereo control via the S2 mechanism. Anomeric hydroxyl group transformation, whether to form glycosidic bonds directly or to install a leaving group for later glycosylation, is key to carbohydrate synthesis, and the strategies in the stereo control of these reactions under basic/neutral conditions are summarized in this review.
