Nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), a redox-sensitive transcription factor, regulates proangiogenic mediators, and antioxidant and detoxification enzymes. However, hitherto its regulation in the progression of DFU was poorly examined. The regulation of Nrf2 has been reported to be affected by various factors, including histone deacetylase (HDACs) and DNA methylation.

Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter-2 Inhibitor Suppresses Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress and Oxidative Stress in Diabetic Nephropathy Through Nrf2 Signaling: A Clinical and Experimental Study.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN), a severe complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), is marked by heightened endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) and oxidative stress (OS) due to protein misfolding and free radical generation. We investigated the sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitor (SGLT2i), canagliflozin (Cana), in alleviating ERS and OS in DN patients and THP-1 cells under hyperglycemic condition. A total of 120 subjects were divided into four groups, with 30 subjects in each group: healthy controls, T2DM individuals, DN patients receiving standard treatment, and those treated with Cana.

Prevention of diabetes from prediabetes in real world setting in South India.

Aim: The aim was to explore the effect of lifestyle modification in a real world situation to prevent the progression to diabetes in India.

Methods: Participants who underwent OGTT from August 2017-2022 and were diagnosed as having Prediabetes (n = 200) were assigned into control (group1, n = 100) received standard care and intervention (group2, n = 100) received intensive counseling on physical activity (PA) and diet. PA included walking for 150 min/week and personalized advice based on the profession.

Impact of My Dose Coach App Frequency of Use on Clinical Outcomes in Type 2 Diabetes.

Introduction: My Dose Coach (MDC) is a US Food and Drug Administration-approved digital smartphone application designed to help users with type 2 diabetes (T2D) titrate their basal insulin (BI) according to a clinician-prescribed individualized titration plan. The aim of this analysis was to assess the impact of the frequency of MDC use on clinical outcomes.

Methods: This retrospective observational analysis included people with T2D who were registered for MDC (August 1st, 2018-April 30th, 2020) and received BI.

Managing Diabetic Foot Complications During COVID-19 Lockdown in India: A Survey.

To understand the management of diabetic foot complications by the Diabetic Foot Research India (DFRI) members during the lockdown period. An online survey link was created in "Survey Monkey", and the link was sent to all the members of Diabetic Foot Research India (DFRI) who are staying in different parts of India and data were collected from May 2020 to June 2020. The survey included questions on the type of consultation they provided to their patients, management of a patient with an active foot ulcer, and the various difficulties encountered by the doctors during the lockdown.

Association of Fetuin-A with Thr256Ser exon polymorphism of α2-Heremans Schmid Glycoprotein (AHSG) gene in type 2 diabetic patients with overt nephropathy.

Background: Circulatory Fetuin-A has been well reported to elevate the risk for Diabetic Nephropathy (DN) and is associated with many vascular complications. Compelling reports have well documented that the circulatory levels of Fetuin-A directly have an impact on its AHSG (α2- Heremans- Schmid Glycoprotein) gene single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP). Thus, in this study among the South Indian T2DM population, we aim to explore the association of AHSG Thr256Ser (rs4918) SNP in subjects with DN and correlate with the circulatory levels of Fetuin-A at various stages of DN patients.

Methods: A total of 81 subjects underwent OGTT and were classified into three groups as having normal glucose tolerance (NGT) (n = 23), prediabetes (PreDM) (n = 33), newly diagnosed diabetes (NDM) (n = 25). Insulin and glucagon at fasting, 30 and 120 min was measured by ELISA.

Major Lower-Limb Amputation During the COVID Pandemic in South India.

People with diabetes have a higher risk of lower-limb amputations than people without diabetes. The risk of avoidable lower-limb amputations has increased in the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) lockdown period. Hence, we conducted a retrospective, single-centered study on major amputations during the prepandemic period (March 25, 2019-December 31, 2019) and pandemic period (March 25, 2020-December 31, 2020).

Effect of yoga intervention on biochemical, oxidative stress markers, inflammatory markers and sleep quality among subjects with type 2 diabetes in South India: Results from the SATYAM project.

Aims: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of yoga intervention on the biochemical, oxidative stress markers and inflammatory markers and sleep quality among subjects with type 2 diabetes.

Methods: Subjects with type 2 diabetes attending a tertiary care centre for diabetes during Feb 2017 to Oct 2019 in Chennai, India were randomly assigned to two different groups. Group1(non-Yoga) (n = 150) was advised on simple physical exercises whereas group2(Yoga) (n = 150) was trained and advised to do yogasanas with static loosening exercises for 50 min for 5 days in a week.

Heart failure in people with type 2 diabetes vs. those without diabetes: A retrospective observational study from South India.

Background And Aim: Despite diabetes being an independent risk for HF, only some DM patients develop HF and hence our aim was to compare the clinical features of DM with and without HF and non-DM with and without HF.

Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted among 397 individuals who visited two tertiary care centres. They were classified into 4 groups - DM with HF(DM-HF), DM without HF, non-DM with HF(non-DM-HF) and non-DM without HF.

Increasing evidence in substantiating the roles of endoplasmic reticulum stress, oxidative stress, and inflammatory responses and their interplay is evident in various diseases. However, an in-depth mechanistic understanding of the crosstalk between the intracellular stress signaling pathways and inflammatory responses and their participation in disease progression has not yet been explored. We evaluated the association between automatically measured carotid total plaque area (TPA) and the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), a biomarker of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Automated average carotid intima-media thickness (cIMTave) and TPA measurements in carotid ultrasound (CUS) were performed using AtheroEdge (AtheroPoint).
