The introduction of cadaveric dissection of cerebral vasculature as a part of the neurosurgical training module would help the neurosurgical residents to understand the complex neuroanatomy of the brain vasculature and help gain confdence during the surgical procedure. To the best of our knowledge microsurgical anatomical studies of theMCA have not been done among the Northwest Indian population. Anatomical variations of MCA that have not been described before may come in as a surprise during any surgical intervention.

Article Synopsis
  • Foreign body aspiration in adults is rare but can be mistaken for chronic respiratory issues like asthma, leading to misdiagnoses and treatment delays.
  • A case series of four patients revealed that all had chronic cough but were later found to have aspirated foreign bodies, with three cases involving vegetative matter missed by CT scans and identified through bronchoscopy.
  • The study highlights the effectiveness of flexible bronchoscopy in diagnosing and removing aspirated objects, emphasizing the need for a careful clinical assessment and prompt intervention to avoid severe complications.

Purpose: The prognosis of total hip replacement (THR) after open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) versus THR following non-operative treatment of acetabular fractures is unclear. Few studies have been conducted in this regard. Therefore, the purpose of the current study was to perform an assessment and compare the functional outcomes for study subjects in the ORIF and non-ORIF groups during the follow-up period compared to baseline.

Recent advances in the orthopedic prostheses design have significantly improved the quality of life for individuals with orthopedic disabilities. However, there are still critical challenges that need to be addressed to further enhance the functionality of orthopedic prostheses improving biocompatibility to promote better integration with natural tissues, enhancing durability to withstand the demands of daily use, and improving sensory feedback for better control of movement are the most pressing issues. To address these challenges, promising emerging solutions such as smart prosthetics, 3D printing, regenerative medicine, and artificial intelligence have been developed.

Introduction: COVID 19 pandemic has given rise to several challenges to clinicians and one of the keys in this is to predict the set of patients who progress from mild disease to moderate and severe. Apart from the symptomatology and signs, there are several lab parameters varying from biochemical, hematological to radiological parameters which help us in stratifying the stage of disease and also in deciding on which set of patients need close and vigilant monitoring. This would help us in better stratification of disease and utilize the available infrastructure and resources in an optimum way for better management of the disease.

Introduction: Oral mucositis is inflammation of the mucosa of the mouth which ranges from redness to severe ulceration. It results from the local effects of radiation to the oral mucosa.

Objectives: The study is cumulative analysis of two studies (one comparative and the other open labeled) evaluated in individuals with oral mucositis during cancer radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy for the safety and efficacy of Oro-T mouthwash in a comparative design with normal saline.

Aim: To compare (in the LIRA-PRIME [NCT02730377], a randomized open-label trial), the efficacy of liraglutide in controlling glycaemia versus an oral antidiabetic drug (OAD) in patients with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes (T2D), despite metformin use in a primary care setting (n = 219 sites, n = 9 countries).

Materials And Methods: Adults (n = 1991) with T2D (HbA1c 7.5%-9.

Background And Introduction: The success of endoscopic skull base surgery is largely based on the effective repair of the skull base defect. A pedicled nasoseptal flap (NSF), described by Hadad-Bassagateguy is the workhorse of contemporary endoscopic skull base repair. We describe a modification in the technique, "double breasting technique," using the bilateral posterior NSF for skull base repair.

Background/aims: The efficacy and safety of vedolizumab in moderate to severely active ulcerative colitis (UC) have been demonstrated in the GEMINI 1 study (NCT00783718). This post-hoc exploratory analysis sought to establish the efficacy and safety of vedolizumab in a subgroup of patients from Asian countries with UC from GEMINI 1.

Methods: Efficacy outcomes of interest were clinical response, clinical remission and mucosal healing at week 6 (induction phase); and clinical remission, durable clinical response, durable clinical remission, mucosal healing and glucocorticoid-free remission at week 52 (maintenance phase).

Mumps is an acute viral illness, which presents with glandular and/or nervous system involvement. The most common central nervous system manifestations of mumps include aseptic meningitis and meningoencephalitis. Mumps meningoencephalitis, which is characterized by fever, vomiting, nuchal rigidity, and altered sensorium, usually develops at least 3-10 days after mumps parotitis.

The Reliability of Polyvinylidene Fluoride Sensor for Intra- and Intersession Measurements.

Indian J Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg

November 2019

1Department of Instrumentation and Applied Physics, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, 560012 India.

A new nasal sensor has been designed using Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) film using its piezoelectric property to measure nasal patency. The aim of this study is to determine the intra- and intersession reliability of the new PVDF nasal sensor measurement of unilateral and combined nasal parameters in a group of healthy subjects. Two identical nasal sensors: for right nostril (RN) and left nostril (LN) were designed using piezoelectric natured PVDF films.

Aims: Using a pragmatic approach, the LIRA-PRIME trial aims to address a knowledge gap by comparing efficacy in controlling glycaemia with glucagon-like peptide-1 analog liraglutide vs oral antidiabetic drugs (OADs) in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) uncontrolled with metformin monotherapy in primary care practice. We report the study design and patient baseline characteristics.

Materials And Methods: This 104-week, two-arm, open-label, active-controlled trial is active in 219 primary care practices across nine countries.

Introduction: The earthworm coelomic fluid (ECF) has shown proven antiproliferative effect against breast, liver, gastrointestinal, and brain cancer, but it is least explored in oral cancer. The present study is an attempt to investigate the antiproliferative activity of ECF on oral cancer cell line squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)-9.

Materials And Methods: ECF was collected from the species (EE), (EF), and (PE) stored at -80°C.

Background: Headless screw is frequently used for scaphoid fracture fixation. Aim of the study was to assess the correlation between the axial length of the scaphoid and the axial length of the middle phalanx of index, middle, ring and little finger so as to provide an indirect method to assess the length of the scaphoid and thereby the length of the screw.

Methods: Thirty five fresh frozen cadavers with seventy wrists and hands were dissected.

Avascular necrosis of the femur head (AVNFH) is a debilitating disease caused due to the use of alcohol, steroids, following trauma or unclear (idiopathic) etiology, affecting mostly the middle aged population. Clinically AVNFH is associated with impaired blood supply to the femoral head resulting in bone necrosis and collapse. Although Homocysteine (HC) has been implicated in AVNFH, levels of homocysteine and its associated pathway metabolites have not been characterized.

Oral Spindle Cell Sarcoma: A Rare Case Report and Review of Literature.

J Clin Diagn Res

April 2017

Postgraduate Student, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Faculty of Dental Science, M.S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.

Spindle cell lesions of the head and neck region are diverse in nature by means of clinical and biological heterogeneity. Though few lesions are found to be malignant, several others are benign or merely reactive in nature. Although these lesions are fairly common occurring in other parts of the body, they are very rare in the oral cavity, accounting for less than 1% of all tumours in the oral region.
