Background: To combat the high prevalence of physical inactivity among children, there is an urgent need to develop and implement real-world interventions and policies that promote physical activity (PA) and reduce sedentary behaviour (SB). To inform policy makers, the current body of evidence for children's PA/SB interventions needs to be translated.
Objectives: The current systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to identify modifiable determinants of device-measured PA and SB targeted in available intervention studies with randomized controlled trial (RCT) and controlled trial (CT) designs in children and early adolescents (5-12 years) and to quantify the effects of the interventions within their respective settings on the determinants of PA/SB and the outcomes PA and SB.

Chitosan-based membranes are promising alternatives to synthetic membranes in a number of specialized use cases, including water purification and electrochemical devices. In application, excessive swelling when hydrated can lead to poor mechanical integrity, necessitating modifications to the polymer so as to counter this effect. Embedding inorganic fillers within an organic polymer matrix is one method of combining excellent mechanical stability with good performance.

Background And Objective: This study explored the relationship between total bacterial density, airway microbiota composition and clinical parameters in bronchiectasis. We determined changes with time during clinical stability and following antibiotic treatment of a pulmonary exacerbation.
Methods: We conducted a multicentre longitudinal cohort study of UK participants with CT confirmed bronchiectasis.

Background: Persistent immune activation is linked to elevated cardiovascular diseases in people with HIV on antiretroviral therapy. The fat attenuation index (FAI) is a measure of peri-coronary inflammation that independently predicts cardiovascular disease risk in people without HIV. Whether FAI is associated with immune activation is unknown.

Background: In heart failure, sympathetic excess and exercise intolerance impair quality of life. In heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, exercise stimulates a reflex increase in muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA) that relates inversely to peak oxygen uptake (V̇O). Whether similar sympathoexcitatory responses are present in heart failure with preserved EF (HFpEF) and relate to V̇O are unknown.

Health equity is a concept that has gained increasing attention and relevance in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has exposed and exacerbated the health disparities and inequities among different population groups in the United States. This article aims to provide a comprehensive and critical overview of the historical, theoretical, and empirical foundations of health equity, as well as the challenges and opportunities for advancing it in the modern US society. By adopting an interdisciplinary and intersectional approach, and by drawing on literature from public health, sociology, economics, and human rights, we argue that health equity is not only a matter of fairness and justice, but also a strategic and pragmatic goal for improving the health and well-being of the entire nation.

Increasingly, people attending HIV services are requesting long-acting injectable (LAI) antiretroviral treatment (ART). However, without HIV RNA resistance-associated mutation results, individuals are considered unsuitable for LAI ART. We present our experience of sequencing proviral HIV DNA in 30 individuals to inform suitability for LAI ART, of whom 23 were considered suitable.

Introduction: Improving adverse events following immunisation (AEFI) detection is vital for vaccine safety surveillance, as an early safety signal can help minimize risks. In February 2022, the World Health Organization reported a preliminary signal on sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) following coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination, 54 million persons in France received at least one dose, covering 78.8% of the population within a year.

Purpose: Refractory or recurrent retinoblastoma results from acquired chemoresistance and the management of these eyes often requires surgical removal. Our objective was to develop retinoblastoma models resistant to chemotherapy by exposing cancer cells to repeated chemotherapy mimicking the clinical scenario. These newly resistant cells were used to evaluate potential novel therapies.

Background And Aim: Insulin resistance and other metabolic risk factors are associated with increased cardiovascular diseases in animals fed with high fat diets (HFD). L-arginine is a semi-essential amino acid produced both endogenously and taken in the diet as supplements. It has been documented to possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and has been considered a plausible candidate for the management of metabolic disorders.

Purpose: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease that leads to the loss of insulin-producing pancreatic beta cells. Beta cell replacement devices or bioartificial pancreas (BAP) have shown promise in curing T1D and providing long-term insulin independence without the need for immunosuppressants. Hypoxia in BAP devices damages cells and imposes limitations on device dimensions.

Studies in SIV-infected macaques show that the virus reservoir is particularly refractory to conventional suppressive antiretroviral therapy (ART). We posit that optimized ART regimens designed to have robust penetration in tissue reservoirs and long-lasting antiviral activity may be advantageous for HIV or SIV remission. Here we treat macaques infected with RT-SHIV with oral emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide and long-acting cabotegravir/rilpivirine without (n = 4) or with (n = 4) the immune activator vesatolimod after the initial onset of viremia.

Dichalcogenoimidodiphosphinate complexes of zinc [Zn{(EPPr)N}], [E=Se,Se; S,Se] were synthesized through metathetical reactions from the dichalcogenoimidodiphosphinate ligands [(EE'PPrNH)] (E, E'=Se, Se; S, Se). These complexes were characterized and used as single-source precursors through Aerosol-Assisted Chemical Vapour Deposition (AACVD) for the deposition of cubic zinc selenide (ZnSe) films on glass substrates. The deposition temperature occurred at 500 and 525 °C, while the flow rates of the carrier gas was 160 and 240 standard cubic centimetre (sccm).

The U1 snRNP complex recognizes pre-mRNA splicing sites in the early stages of spliceosome assembly and suppresses premature cleavage and polyadenylation. Its dysfunction may precede Alzheimer's disease (AD) hallmarks. Here we evaluated the effects of a synthetic single-stranded cDNA (APT20TTMG) that interacts with U1 snRNP, in iPSC-derived neurons from a donor diagnosed with AD and in the SAMP8 mouse model.

While HIV infection and clonal hematopoiesis (CH) have been linked with inflammatory dysregulation and an increased risk of aging-related comorbidities, their relationship with clinical geriatric syndromes has not been well defined. In the Age-related Clonal Haematopoiesis in an HIV Evaluation Cohort (ARCHIVE) study (NCT04641013), we measure associations between HIV and CH and geriatric syndromes. Of 345 participants (176 with HIV and 169 without HIV), 23% had at least one mutation associated with CH: 27% with HIV and 18% without HIV (p = 0.

Background: Genome-wide association studies identified a 20-Kb region of chromosome 8 (8q24.13) associated with plasma lipids, hepatic steatosis, and risk for coronary artery disease. Background: Breast and prostate tumors are known to be less responsive to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). Tissue-based tumor mutation burden (tTMB) has emerged as a predictive biomarker of response to ICIs, including in these "cold tumors". In clinical practice, when tTMB is not available, blood-based TMB score (bTMB) can be used to consider treatment with ICIs.
